First of all, nice job. I love reading early mocks because I'm always preparing for rookie drafts during the fantasy season and being informed early never hurts. A few things I wanted to comment on:- It's a fact that Arizona needs to get a QB. I just don't see them filling that void via the draft however. I think they're more likely to pursue a free agent and take a developmental QB later in the draft or stick with Skelton and Hall as the prospects in waiting. They might be a team that goes after a Kevin Kolb type player in the off-season to fill that spot. Don't know if Whisenhunt has the shelf-life in Arizona to survive the growing pains with a rookie QB.12/14 Update
Alternative picks in parenthesis.
6. Arizona - Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas
(Robert Quinn)
Max Hall and John Skelton are not the answer and they're inferior talents compared to Mallett.
8. San Francisco - Robert Quinn, North Carolina, DE
(A.J. Green/Cam Newton)
Sometimes you draft to make your strength stronger.
9. Tennessee - A.J. Green, Georgia, WR
(Jimmy Smith)
Maybe Britt can put it back together again, but the Moss experiment is over.
10. Washington - Von Miller, Texas A&M, OLB
(Jimmy Smith/Cam Newton)
Having Miller on one side and Orakpo on the other could pose big problems for the opposition.
13. Cleveland - Leonard Hankerson, Miami (Fla.), WR
(Defensive line)
Oops.
15. Seattle - Cameron Jordan, Cal, DE
(Ryan Williams)
Lack of talent available at areas of need, this would be a nice BPA pick.
17. Indianapolis - Ryan Williams, Virginia Tech, RB
(Stephen Paea/Derek Sherrod)
Lack of running game has killed this team.
20. Green Bay - DeMarco Murray, Oklahoma, RB
21. St. Louis - Stephen Paea, Oregon State, DT
- If what I anticipate happening with Arizona transpires, I can't see how the 49ers pass on Mallett if he's available.
- I doubt the Titans go WR after already spending a 1st round pick on Britt not too long ago. There's a ton of depth at the WR position this year that they can get one later and address other needs in the top 10, I think Green is more likely to wind up going to Washington or Cleveland.
- I like Hankerson but man, that's high. Sure, things can change but I'm stunned to see him coming off the board before the likes of Blackmon (who you don't have in your mock), Jones, Floyd and Baldwin.
- I like the Seattle pick but I could also see them going with Jake Locker. Yes he's struggled this season but he will most likely have an impressive combine and interview well which will convince scouts that he's still a first round talent even if he's no longer top 10 material. Taking Locker allows him to stay in his hometown which might be a great benefit to him and his development.
- I don't see the Colts taking a RB in round 1. I think they will take one at some point in the draft but Donald Brown is still young and a former 1st rounder himself. With the amount of holes on defence they have, I think they need to address that area of their team with such a high pick. A guy like Shane Vereen might be a better value in the 2nd round.
- Ingram going to Miami makes perfect sense. Love the pick. We need a RB. We might also look at a safety or another corner to start opposite Vontae.
- DeMarco Murray seems awfully high. I agree with your thinking though. I think Green Bay does target a RB in the draft but might be better served to take somebody like Mikel LeShoure in the 2nd round, or wait and still end up with Murray if they wanted him. There doesn't seem to be enough top end talent at the RB position to have 3 of them taken that high. I think Ingram is the only sure-bet to go 1st round, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Williams fall to Round 2 himself.
- It would really surprise me if the Rams passed on a WR if Blackmon, Jones and Baldwin were all available with that pick. Bradford needs a weapon.
Again, nice job and thanks for posting!
