from GM Jr.

As a former NFL Scout and current draft expert for The Sporting News, I offer you, the fans, the most comprehensive and thorough analysis of the prospects available for the NFL Draft in my annual draft publication, GM Jr's Guide to the NFL Draft ("The Guide"), online at The Sporting News war room site and in the annual Sporting News Pro Football Draft publication. GM Jr's Guide To The 2007 NFL Draft is in the final stages of work and will be available to customers in early April. Based upon my experience as an NFL Scout working with both the St. Louis Rams and Cleveland Browns, I know that the only way to provide truly accurate evaluations of prospects is to evaluate game film. To that end, my reports are based upon hundreds of hours of game film gathered directly from the various colleges all around the nation. As you will see from The Guide, my reports capture unique details from individual strengths, weaknesses to breakdown of position specific skills.

As a scout for the Cleveland Browns, I covered the Midwest section of the country for three years. As is reflected in my reports, this experience has enabled me to offer unique insights based on first hand experience. It is exactly this experience coupled with my proven ability to correctly evaluate prospect, that makes my evaluations both the most detailed and comprehensive in the industry. In addition, my contacts with the colleges, coaches, scouts and other NFL insiders, I am able to gather detailed information about players that very few can obtain, and is reflected in my reports.

Another unique characteristic of my book is the fact that I use an alphabetical/numerical scouting system to properly segment the players into specific groups. Due to the fact that there are many different types of college players wanting to join the NFL, it is key to have a grading system that takes into consideration each player's varying abilities. For example, I consider each player's physical and mental attributes and give each a particular letter grade. Then, I integrate a numerical grade that evaluates a player's level of skill. With these grades, an evaluator can easily categorize the players to ascertain their final draft ranking. Utilization of this particular scouting system makes my Draft Guide unique because no other draft guide uses such a detailed grading system.

Lastly, GM Jr ranks the quarterbacks using my self-developed Quarterback ("QB") rating system. This QB system has proven successful with many of my evaluations, most significantly Marc Bulger and Tom Brady. That is, in 2000, I rated Marc Bulger as a first round draft pick. Although Bulger was not selected until the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft and was released by two teams, he became the starting quarterback for the Rams in 2003 and won the MVP of the Pro Bowl. In addition, I rated Tom Brady as a third round draft pick who would become a good quarterback in the NFL. He has, since that time, confirmed my rating by winning three Super Bowls despite having been a 6th round draft pick.

Based upon my passion for the game, solid experience as a scout and unmatched ability to evaluate potential NFL players, my Draft Guide will not only provide valuable insight into players but helps identify which prospects will make it in the NFL. As the NFL Draft approaches you can hear me regularly on The Sporting News Radio Network as well as The Chris Myers Show on Fox Sports Radio and many other stations around the country.

Russ is a huge name in the draftnik circles - We asked about some of his rankings that go against the grain and he was more than happy to tell why:

Brady Quinn is not in his top 2 QBs

Antonio Pittman is ahead of Marshawn Lynch

Chris Houston is not his top 5 CBs

and many others.

If you care about the draft, you need to listen to this.

This is the one I finally got around to listening to if you saw my strange comment in the other thread.

He has some really strong and very interesting takes. It's important stuff to store.

I'm with him 100% on Quinn and Ginn. His Houston stuff had me rethinking... "Did I see enough of Houston to be so high on him?" Unfortunately I have seen even less of Revis, and far more of Hall. Does the player you see the most show the most flaws and perhaps that is why I am low on Hall in comparison more?

Thanks for another excellent interview guys.

I think I posted something on this in your "Suggestions" thread...

I enjoyed Lande's comments, and would love to listen to him in a weekly interview. I did heed the advice, and purchased the TSN Draft Guide. He certainly takes extreme views on some players - for example, I thought it was rather brazen to have Brady Quinn on the cover - of which they most likely paid Quinn & got his permission to post his pic, and then trash him basically rating him a 4th round prospect. I also found that Lande thinks a little highly of himself. He's obviously overly proud of the fact he was big on Bulger during the scouting process - giving him a 1st-round grade the year he entered the NFL Draft. However, in his rankings of current players (p. 129) - I HIGHLY doubt there are too many GM's, FFBallers, etc. - that would declare Mark Bulger an "Elite" QB!

In the category of "elite" - 3 names come to mind: Manning, Brady & McNabb. Followed closely by Palmer & after last season, probably Brees. After that - no more! In fact, I'm a huge Packer-homer - and I'm smart enough to pull out emotion, and recognize that Brett (albeit once was elite) no longer falls in that category. I guess I'd give Bulger credentials of "Solid", but DEFINATELY not Elite!

Otherwise - huge Lande fan! :hey:

Just my :goodposting:
