Todd, thanks for the question!I certainly agree with you that ADP and Bowe should be your keepers here. ADP will get his, and Bowe could get a ton of garbage time points because KC is going to be playing from behind a lot this year. The addition of Amani Toomer will help attract some attention away from Bowe, not a lot but some. He could lead the NFL in targets this year if he can stay healthy.Hey guys, got a Keeper Question for you.
I get to keep 2 players but they have to be at different positions - can't keep 2 RB's.
Scoring is 6pts for all TD's, 1/2ppr, 5pt bonuses at 100yds rush/rec & 300yds pass. Rest is standard
Here are my options:
Peyton Manning
Adrian Peterson
DeAngelo Williams
Steven Jackson
Dwayne Bowe
Marques Colston
I pick 3rd in the draft. Thinking about AD & Bowe as my keepers, targeting one of the other backs I'm dropping or Calvin Johnson (who should be there at 3). What do you think?
Keep up the good work. Thanks!
Todd
since you only start 2 DL, 2 LB, 2 DB I would probably target DL1 and DL2 with your first two IDP picks because it has by far the shallowest player pool of the three positions. I really like Jared Allen and Mario Williams this year, and I think the 11th or 12th sounds like good place to pull the trigger than the 10th. With 3 WR and a flex, youll prolly want to devote at least 16 spots to offense, and have two swing spots to use to bridge bye weeks/injuries to your IDPs. With the QB flex option, that makes getting a quality QB2 more important - 10th round is a great place to do that. If you can't get Allen/Williams because someone pulls the trigger earlier than you, you can still land Peppers/Tuck or Suggs/Osi. no problem. I would both LB next, the position is pretty strong at least 15-20 deep. worst case scenario youll get timmons/durant or laurinaitis/farrior, even if you're patient. save DB for last, its the deepest position.sounds like the WW will be very active in this league. sounds like a fun set up, but i would go 1 DT 2 DE 3 LB 2 CB 2 S with 30 roster spots to get into more subtle IDP strategy.General IDP Draft question (since I think you said you like general questions in the last podcast!)I'm in a 24 round IDP draft where we start 2 LB, 2 DL and 2 DB. I'm wondering when its is reasonable to start looking at drafting IDP guys, and in what order? I'm thinking about diving in at about the 10th round, and generally thinking of going DL1, LB1, DL2, LB2, then waiting for DB1 and DB2 due to the incredible depth at the position. Just FYI, we are a 12 team, start 3WR league, modified PPR (.5 for WR/TE and .25 for RB), and can flex a QB.Any input would be great. Thanks guys, its my 3rd year as a regular podcast listener and it's provided great entertainment and information the whole time.
Porter an underrated IDP property because his rookie breakout was cut short by a broken wrist. He's a good pick as a starting CB that you can get outside of the top 10-15 in most cases.Williams is more of a grinder, not a great talent, but a hustler. Maybe he could do something with a healthy Schobel and the addition of Maybin to distract offensive lines, but im not targeting him.Jones seems like he should be a pass rushing force, and he is a top tier DT1 and nice commodity in sack heavy DT required leagues.there will be a few safeties that comes from the WW to top 10-15 this year. three good candidates are James Butler (Spags brought him over from NY), Michael Johnson (taking Butler's place in NY), Abram Elam (Mangini brought him over from NY)Hey guys,I just wanted to get your thoughts on a couple of IDP prospects for this season:CB Tracy Porter (Saints)DT Kyle Williams (Bills)DT Jason Jones (Titans)Are there any players on the IDP side of things that are flying hugely under the radar at the moment? Any that would be available in most leagues' waiver wires? The Audible rocks, guys. Keep up the great work.
16 team will really stretch it. Seems like big plays are emphasized, particularly INTs. I like Deon Grant and LaRon Landry as late safeties. Kawika Mitchell and Takeo Spikes as late LBs. For DL, I would aim for Derrick Harvey (who isnt getting the same respect as Avril in drafts) and Trevor Scott (who should start now that Burgess is gone).Hi guys,Great show as always. I just listened to the IDP podcast from the legendary Jene, John and Sig and as always there is great information in it.I am in a 16 team dynasty league and our auction is coming up soon and I am trying to put together a list of good IDP options that may be available later in the auction (other than the suggested players in the podcasts and Jene, John and Sig's IDP articles) that I could pick up on the cheap.Scoring: 1pt tkl (.5 ast), 1pt FF 2pt FR, 4pt Int, 2pt Sack, 6 pt TDAny dl,lb,db suggestions that may be available late that I can keep an eye on.Thanks, you guys rock!
gpthatsme, thanks for the question!Matt Ryan is getting some crazy love in fantasy circles and it's been a little baffling to me. Even with a full complement of weapons I just don't see Ryan as ever being an elite fantasy quarterback. It's his second year, and I LOVED what I saw from Ryan his rookie season. To be clear, I am a fan of Ryan - I just don't expect an explosion in his production during his sophomore year. At Boston College he was known to force the ball quite a bit which led to interceptions. NOW, with White's holdout getting uglier. D. Orlando Ledbetter, from the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported yesterday that the Douglas injury won't force the Falcons hand. Tony Gonzalez is going to be great for Ryan. His favorite target in college was his TE Ryan Purvis. He'll be the hot read (it was White last year), and even when White returns to the team it will be Tony G that stays the hot read in 2009.Turner could see more carries, even though the team wants to reduce his carries to somewhere around 300 on the season. His carries may be more productive this year because he could stay fresh and the addition of Tony G means defense just can't load the box to stop the run and worry about White deep. On to Brandon Marshall...We'll see how that hamstring/hip does later in the preseason. He's not going to play the first week, and as we get closer to the regular season we'll see how he looks. Marshall will no longer be the centerpiece in the offense because Eddie Royal is going to be the most targeted receiver on this team. Orton loves to stay safe and checkdown so we can't expect a lot of deep catches for Marshall this year. His current ADP is WR14, which seems about right if he's healthy. With all this negative news around Marshall he may fall in your draft, but the upside is nice (as you said 1,000 yards 6-8TDs). Don't rush out and get him, but if you can wait and get him as a value I say pull the trigger and get him because of the upside, because of the potential for big performances, PLUS the Broncos D is a work in progress and the Broncos may be passing more than they want to in 2009.As for your final question here's a couple:San Diego, if Tomlinson is gone watch out for Gartrell Johnson who has been getting very good press in training camp. When we talked about him back in January at the Shrine Game there were some who thought he would be a fullback in the NFL - and probably go undrafted. It was a blood bath for RBs this year (Peerman, Jennings - 7th rounders, really?) yet A.J. Smith chose to select GarJo in the 4th round. He's also a better receiver than people expect.Cleveland, if Lewis is gone watch out for James Davis. We spent quite a bit of time talking about him on the show and he's looking more like he did in 2007 than he did in 2008. Kansas City, if Johnson is gone (and I believe he will be) the Chiefs don't have a back on the current roster that could carry the load for the full season. Jamaal Charles is versatile, speedy, and a decent receiver but I feel he would break down if given 15-20 carries a game for a full season.Seattle, Julius Jones may be the worst starting RB in the league, but it's going to be RBBC with Duckett. I like Forsett for the future. He's smaller, but runs with surprising toughness between the tackles. Like Charles he could wear down with an increased workload. But he's more instinctive than Charles, and I like him as the lead back in a committee. The 'Hawks could replace Jones with Forsett and be GTG.Washington, the Redskins would be smart to draft a top RB next year. thanks for listening!Great show guys...1. Does the news about Harry Douglas being out for the season and Roddy White not being in camp cause concern for Matt Ryan? Does he get upgraded/downgraded at all? Does it upgrade/downgrade Turner? What about Gonzalez?2. Brandon Marshall seemed to WOW! the crowd the one day he was in camp, but does his slow camp start, ailing injuries, upcoming court date, etc. all make you think he is a DND player? Do you think he still exceeds 1,000 yards and say, 7 or 8 TDs in 2009? He is definitely one of the top 40 FF players who carry HUGE amounts of risk, but if you can snag him a little later than ADP is it a risk worth taking?3. I'm curious about today's starting RB's who very likely WON'T be the starter on their team going into 2010 due to contracts, age, etc. Could you name them all (based on your opinions) and who you think will be the starter on those same teams going into next season? Granted, of course, we don't know what upperclassmen will be rookies on which teams next season so just leave that out of the equation for now. Thanks again and keep it coming... Us FF Junkies love it...
Shirley is a backup and doing okBell is a backup, could be on the spot if a starting tackle goes down or struggles.Jackson had a rough rookie year, but is looking a lot better now.Molden is banged up, but with Reeves injury and Robinson holdout, hell get reps with the ones when he returns in 2 weeksJohnson will likely get cut and be someone else's 3rd QB or PS QB - doubt TB carries 4 now that Gruden is gone.Coleman went to CanadaOkam is doing ok, and just got some reps with the ones.Johnson got huge praise from Carter (he can be a starter) and his development likely caused the release of Aundrae Allison.Brown i havent heard much about, lost track of him, maybe IRed last year, but not on roster on redskins.comOf the others you like I think its premature to give up on Justice and Dvoracek. Justice could be starting at RT if Andrews back doesnt get better. Spencer had a gnarly injury, and Thurman has been through too much.i have no update on charles.I would like to hear some thoughts on guys that were prospects in the last few years, but aren't current rookies. How have they progressed?Mostly guys from Draftguys TV, but some others as well: Jason Shirley, Demetrius Bell, Dexter Jackson, Antwaun Molden, Josh Johnson, Thaddeus Coleman, Frank Okam, Jaymar Johnson, Kerry Brown, Derek Landri, Charles Spencer, Dusty Dvoracek, Winston Justice, Erasmus James, Odell Thurman... Who have you given up on and who do you still have high hopes for?Any info or updated scouting notes you have on them is appreciated. Any updates on Taurean Charles and where he is now?
griffin, ndukwe, mikell, timmons, maualuga, farrior would be at the top of the list. moore and chung are great dev prospects for a 16 teamer with that system. Bullocks is fighting for a job, and Carr is more of tackler/physical CB than ballhawk big play guy. McGee is solid, but unexciting upside. Gaither I think will still be a backup behind Mays, and only in on the nickel. I actually like Mitchell as an LB5 in big play leagues, they are going to blitz him more. Leber isn't bad in a big play league, rosterable, but still a sporadic producer. Pierce should be interesting, Garafolo said he wasnt as bad as we think last year, but he's an LB4 at best in a 16 teamer.PS nice anchower shoutoutHolla amigos!Love the show. Here's my first ever question.I'm in a 16 team IDP dynasty league. Start 4 DBs, 4 DL/LBs and 2 Flex. Big play league.Tackles - 3Tackle asst -1Sack- 10Int- 15FF- 15Fumble recovery- 10D TD- 20Safety-20Pass Defended- 2Block kick-20I own Cedric Griffin, Dan Bullocks,Brandon Carr,Chinedum Ndukwe, Quntin Mikell, Terrence McGee,William Moore, Patrick Chung at DB. And Omar Gaither, James Farrior, Antonio Pierce, Kawika Mithchell, Lawrence Timmons, Ben Leber, Rey Rey Maualuga.I know i could just play matchups all season long, but i have to cut some guys. Who would you keep considering the big play scoring and future potential.Thanks-BREHH
lowman2, thanks for your question! We love Darren Sproles on the show dating back to his days at Kansas State. This change to your work league pushes him up into that 7th round. An injury to LT doesn't have to happen to make Sproles a productive player in your league/scoring format. Leon Washington could get pushed up into that 6th round because he'll get more opportunity than Sproles. Washington is the best receiver out of the backfield, the team will use him in the Wildcat, and he may get more carries (but not near the goalline of course). The team sees Shonn Greene as a 4th quarter weapon, and the rookie will take touches/plays from Thomas Jones - and not Leon Washington. Norwood's ADP right now in standard leagues (RB49) is way too low. Use that to wait for him, although he could score around what Sproles does for the Chargers. He's got the speed to score anytime he touches the ball. Cribbs I don't anticipate having a Hester-like breakout as a receiver. He's my least favorite out of the players you listed, and the struggling QBs in Cleveland doesn't help. Thanks for listening!Hey Guys,Looking for opinions on a 12 man PPR league all td's 6 points across the board all normal scoring except you get 1 point per 25 yards on Kick/Punt return yardage , Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2WR, 1 Flex, 1 TE, K, DEf.My workl eague has added return yardage this year and I am having a hard time figuring out how much more value do guys like Leon Washington, D. Sporles, Norwood,Cribbs, ETC. have. Does this type of scoring move Sporles and Leon Washington into the 6 or 7 round or higher ?Thanks guys,
Thanks for the question Tenacious! This is the way savvy fantasy owners will win their leagues this year. If you have a chance to get one of the top feature backs ADP, MJD - then you grab them at the top of your draft. However, if you're sitting at the end of the first go back to back WRs, and if your scoring is slanted for QBs then consider Brady/Brees with that second-round pick. This is the year to wait for RBs. You can pick up guys like Ray Rice, Pierre Thomas later in your draft. Even guys like Earnest Graham, Willie Parker can be had later on. Grab those elite WRs and corner the market of that upper tier of talent. Fantasy owners need to watch this 2 and 3 headed RBBC trend and adjust their draft strategies accordingly. If you're near the bottom of the first round I'd go WR/WR then RB in the 3rd. Thanks for listening! It seems like this year we are seeing more RBBC situations around the NFL. I've generally always tried to target 2 RBs in the first 3 rounds of my fantasy drafts. Do you think it's perhaps time to rethink this strategy?I'm considering grabbing a feature back and then loading up on QB and WR talent before looking for a committee back as my RB2. Thoughts?
As we heard from D. Orlando Ledbetter when we had him on the show, the new HOT read for reacting to the blitz is Tony Gonzalez. Last year it was Roddy White. If White doesn't miss anytime in the regular season - and can stay healthy - he should have a good year, but will see a drop in production because of Tony G.I don't think Jenkins sees that much of an increase or decline in his production because his role is already the 3rd or 4th target on most plays. He'll probably finish the year as a top 50 WR, but won't break the top 40.Tony G will continue to produce and should become Matt Ryan's most trusted target. Jerious Norwood should catch 30-40 passes this year.Who do you think will be the biggest beneficiary of Harry Douglas' injury? Does Michael Jenkins get those targets as a possession receiver, or will Tony Gonzalez become an even bigger part of the passing game? We know Roddy White won't be the answer, he's a playmaker who needs to be fed the ball, not a safety valve.
we love you guys, and are very appreciative of everyone that listens to our show!Sooo many questions that we couldn't fit it all in, so we'll answer them here.I'm headed to Dove Valley for practice, but will be back to finish answering these great questions this afternoon!Cecil and Sigmund putting in the OT; nice job guys!!!!
