The best trade you ever made in a dynasty league (1 Viewer)

After their rookie years, I traded Michael Clayton straight up for Larry Fitzgerald.

Clayton had come off one of the best rookie seasons in history (78 catches, 1100+ yds, 6 TDs), and Fitzy was good but didn't have quite the numbers Clayton did (55 for 700+ and 8 TDs). At the time, it seemed like a pretty fair trade, no one batted an eye: young stud WR for young stud WR. No one could have predicted the disappearing act Clayton would pull, making this the most lopsided trade in our league's history. People still bring it up on draft day; the other owner will never live it down.

What trade do you look back on and thank the fantasy gods?

Rudi Johnson for the Rookie 1.1 pick that I used on Adrian Peterson. Rudi fell off a cliff in 2007, ADP's rookie year.

The other way: traded injured Andre Johnson for Jesse Chatman because I really needed a RB after all of mine went down to injury. At least it wasn't a PPR league.

I traded what ended up being the 1.12 for what ended up being the 1.01. Pretty good value there.

Kevin Jones for Brandon Marshall. Last year, in dynasty. ;)

Guy was a huge Marshall hater due to the suspension and thought KJ was going to "blow it up" in Chicago. Although he still beat me in the championship game last year so I guess he gets the last laugh?

Last year is was hurting bad at RB and and guy with a lot of RBs needed a WR. I traded Berrian for Deangelo straight up right before he started going off. Barely lost in the semis but took 3rd place, I doubt i would have placed otherwise.

Here's a good one I didn't make from last year...

Keeper auction league where I wanted to get Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams as a cheap(er) tandum since I didn't know who would be "the man" and figured I could get both for cheaper than a #1 guy. Williams came up first and I paid $10 for him but when Stewart came up he went for way more than I thought and I couldn't afford him.

I tried to sell Williams to the Stewart owner for $10... no interest.

I reduced the price $8, $6, $5... no interest.

I was pretty much going to give him away to anyone who wanted him for the added roster flexibility... no interest.

Ended up winning the league thanks to him, good thing I know what I'm doing.

We'll see. I only started playing dynasty in a Zealots league last year.

So this off season, I traded Steven Jackson for Derrick Ward, the 1.05 and 1.10, which I turned into Crabtree and Harvin.

Pretty happy with Brady for Lynch and Rodgers, in the middle of Brady's 50-TD season. Still won the title with Big Ben and got a younger top QB to replace Brady.

Best: Gave up Culpepper, Koren Robinson and McGahee for Peyton Manning during the offseason prior to Manning's 49 TD performance. I've been a championship contender and winner ever since. Culpepper fell off the map after injury, Mcgahee and Robinson have done little since.

Worst (not that you asked): Gave up a first round pick for Santana Moss. I intended to use this pick for Steven Jackson but panicked when Boldin got injured. I traded on draft day. My traded pick was used for Jackson anyway, just not for my team. Moss sucked it up big time that year and I had to add WR's from the waiver wire just to compete.

I traded the #1 pick in the 2006 rookie draft to someone who lusted after Reggie Bush, for the #9 pick and Terrell Owens. I took Cutler with the pick.

Before Michael Turner was a FA I traded 1.03 (knowing it would be Marshawn Lynch) and 1.10 (ended up being Dwayne Bowe) for Turner and his 2008 first which I ended up drafting Matt Forte.

Earnest Graham + Caddy for Anquan last summer in a PPR

3rd + 4th + Harry Douglas for Santonio Holmes right before the trade deadline last year in a PPR

Matt Schaub for TJ Housh and 1.6 (Stafford) last year in a QB+OP league

Trades I declined I wish I hadn't

Ray Rice for Matt Forte right after the 08 draft

Vincent Jackson and Brady Quinn for Randy Moss in 07

Prior to the 2004 season, I traded Willis McGahee and Charles Rogers for Shaun Alexander and won the league championship.

Traded Shawn Bryson for Brian Westbrook - ~7 or so years ago when they were both back-ups.

Traded what was essentially Larry Johnson for DeAngelo Williams and Greg Jennings last offseason.

Best: Before the 2007 season I traded the 1.4 and 1.8 rookie/FA picks (used by the guy to draft C-Pepp and Alex Smith, hurting for QB) and in return I got the 1.2. I made this trade on the tip that Lynch was going #1. Sure enough Lynch goes #1 and Peterson falls into my lap.........

Worst: Just before Faulk got traded to the Rams I traded him for Hanspaard, Oxendine, a QB who I do not even remember and like 4 2nd and 3rd round picks. I learned, NEVER trade a stud to fill holes with mediocre players. It took me years to get out of that hole.............

last year traded a 2009 1st round pick, that ended up being the 1.04, for deangelo williams and michael bush. i obviously wasnt THAT smart though because i turned around and traded williams to another guy in a big trade where i got back terrell suggs and chris johnson. i ended up beating that guy in the championship so i guess that one worked out for both teams.

So many trade over 29 years of ff there's no way to remember many, but a couple dynasty trades from not too long ago come to mind:

1) Preseason 2006... Ryan Moats for 2007 rookie pick, which turned out to be 1.01, which turned out to be Adrian Peterson.

2) Brian Westbrook for a 2nd round rookie pick, early in his career before he'd done much.

3) 2005 Start up draft, a guy took LT, I took Kevin Jones later in the 1st (Jones was coming off a good 1st year and was all the rage then), and the guy who picked LT was a big Lions fan and wanted to trade for Jones. All he wanted in return was some mid-level WR and the right to swap rookie picks in the next 2 years if my pick was better. I jumped at it.

Jones has had 107, 169, 126, 11 FP in the 4 seasons since. LT has had 321, 429, 309, 226. And the right to swap rookie picks was never utilized since I finished better than the other guy those next two years, winning the league one of the years and losing in playoffs after being regular season champ the other.

Last year in our 5 player keeper league I traded my 2nd round pick (7th roster spot) for Michael Turner.

I trade Phillip Rivers and Lee Evans for Drew Brees and Kevin Curtis in 2007. Brees and Curtis helped turn my team around from an 0-4 start to winding up 6-8 and just missing out on the playoffs. I kept Brees last year (of course), dropped Curtis because of his injury. The other guy didn't keep either player after the season. So I basically have the consensus #1 QB for my 3rd consecutive year.

Before last season I traded Jon Kitna for a #1 pick .... which turned out to be the 1.01.

Guy thought he was just a QB away from winning the Championship....Ooopppsss

I won the Championship and have the 1.01..!!!

Two I'm both quite happy with:

1) I traded Boo Williams and Justin Fargas for Willy Green (RB) an Antonio Gates - won the Championship that year. (That was Gates' "coming out" year, when he ended up with 13 TDs - the other owner had Alge Crumpler and figured he didn't need 2 TE's)

2) I traded Earnest Graham halfway through (after week 6) this past season for what will end up being this year's rookie 1.02 (i.e. Chris Wells). Pleased with that one.

Oh yeah. Traded Darren Sproles for 1.09 pick this year and 1st rounder next year, probable 1st pick. His team is real bad, he has LT and wanted Sproles after his productive couple of games last year. LT and Sproles are his whole team.

Luckily he is in for long haul.

End of last season took advantage of the Tim Hightower hype ( Traded Hightower and Lendale White for MJD )

When Randy Moss signed with the Patriots, i traded Santana Moss for Randy Moss straight up ( Moss scored over 20 TD s ) .

Traded Chris Perry for the 6th pick in last year rookie draft , ended up picking Chris Johnson .

When Drew Bledsoe was the starter ( He lost his job like 3 weeks after the trade ) for Dallas ( I had Bledsoe ) so i traded Dan Orlovsky ( The other guy had Kitna ) for Romo , i told him we were trading back up for back up ( To get him to do the trade ).

I also traded Romo for Brees last mid - season .

That s a few good ones , il also got ####ed a few times .

Traded Edge for R Williams ( Then Williams retired , did nt play a game on my team ) .

Traded away Priest Holmes , Deangelo Williams last season .

I made more good ones then bad ones .

Javon Walker for Larry Johnson right before LJ exploded

the next season Larry Johnson for draft picks and MJD/TO and I used 1.1 for ADP

I traded Willie Parker before 2008 to the Mendenhall drafter for his 1.07 and 2.01, picks used on Chris Johnson, Curtis Lofton, Jordy Nelson, and Tavares Gooden (traded the 2.01 for 2.05, 3.01, and 4.01 - guy traded up for Felix Jones).

Halfway through 1999 - I traded Ricky Dudley, TE, OAK for Marshall Faulk, RB, STL

Or maybe 2003 - I traded Santana Moss, WR, NYJ (at the time), someone else (no one big), and I believe a pick for LaDanian Tomlinson, RB, SD

Of course, I've had my share of duds too.... oh boy!

My favorite trade was Brett Favre in his prime for a 1st round pick and Priest Holmes the offseason that he was traded to KC. This is a dynasty league and the first rounder ended up being the 3rd overall and netted me Clinton Portis. I won 3 Superbowls with that tandem and the guy who I made the trade with still refuses to trade with me.

Good times...

Before the 2007 season started an owner was hot to get Vernon Davis from me. He offered Chris Cooley and his 2008 first round pick. That pick ended up being the #1 overall pick in 2008. So after the 2007 season, I traded that 2008 1.1 straight up for Steve Smith (CAR)

End result - Chris Cooley & Steve Smith for Vernon Davis

I haven't made any big steals like some in this thread, I only been playing Dynasty for about 4 or 5 yrs now.

In 2007 I finished dead last, the following 2 trades I made in 08 Off-season really turn my team around as I won the Div in 08

I can't Find the record but I somehow got Housh for Steve SMith NYG / couple of picks

I then turned it around and traded

Housh / H Miller / S Morris / Maroney / 1.09 for

Bush / P Thomas / Curtis / Cooley / 2.01 / 2.10

And what was funny was I placed that trade in the AC as a Poll and so many people said I made a huge mistake in that trade.

Another League I love because so many people are willing to trade, made my share of terrible Trade and good Trades...

Best I've done:

5-14-04 Bill gets... Priest Holmes, Tai Streets Joe gets... TJ Duckett, Duce Staley

because Priest Holmes "was over the hill"

Worst I've done:

11-25-99 Bill gets... Dan Marino Mike gets... Torry Holt

because I needed a quarterback for the playoffs. Marino was awful and promptly retired after the season.

A few actually from the league in my sig, with the best I just made last week after the guy proposed it to me!:

2007 off-season:

- Traded Matt Schaub, Torry Holt, 3rd rounder -for- Drew Brees, Reggie Williams

- Traded Marion Barber, Darnell Dockett & David Harris -for- Larry Fitzgerald, Paul Posluszny

2009 off-season:

- Traded Brian Westbrook -for- Matt Forte, 1.12 (Brian Robiskie)

I traded JJ Arrington straight up for Ronnie Brown in August 2005.

The two best trades I've done have been within the past year.

First one, September 08

I give:

Braylon Edwards, Randy McMicheal

For

Tom Brady, Donte Stallworth, Todd Heap, 1st round of 09 and 2nd round of 09

That first round pick ended up being 1.03. Tried to get up to the 1.01 to get Crabtree but Jeter23 beat me to the pick and I knew he was going to pick him. So i decided to trade out of the pick

I give:

Brady Quinn, Vinny Jackson, 1.03, 1.14

for

Micheal Turner

let's see in my 12team 20round draft(30man roster w/ 10keepers+taxi+cap) i picked Demeco Ryans his rookie year with pick 19.09..........solely on one report from rotoworld that Demeco looked alot 'like a young ray lewis'. lightning in a bottle. that pick(and vilma's explosion around that time) changed my fantasy draft and league forever. we've always started as many IDP as offensive players but those 2put up top 5overall scoring #'s in our league made all my owners rethink drafting/keeping.

last year for my taxi squad i drafted dustin keller, josh morgan, donnie avery, tashard choice.xavier adibi(only can have 4 on taxi so i dealt a few for much higher picks than i used to get them)

before our 2001 draft i had decent keepers but had dealt away many of my high end 2002 picks. i dealt marshall faulk for Priest Holmes+2nd(2.05)+4th(4.08)+16th rounder(all for 2002). equated to Priest,(a keeper) Tiki(keeper),Moulds(keeper that didn't work out so well the following year),an Jaye Foreman. i won't say i am a fantasy mastermind and knew that those 3 were gonna breakout. i was desperate for another RB when i took Tiki, moulds had a off year in 2001 after a good 2000(this is when we were in the good even/bad odd year scenario with Eric). just took a flier on Foreman late in the draft after reading defensive changes may funnel things to him.

on the flipside dealt LJ at the end of 2003 for (hurts to say this) mothaf-in Peter Warrick.

dealt Jason Witten straight up for Todd Heap right before 2004 season started. the other team still has jason witten(his salary was extremely cheap then) and i've since had to move on from Todd. i had a rough patch like Feb-july 04

Made this deal at the tail end of the 2007 season for my playoff push.

Comfortably Numb gave up Heap, Todd BAL TE

Sigmund Bloom gave up Jennings, Greg GBP WR

What??

What is that you ask?

Oh, yes, that is a framed picture of this trade hanging above my wedding photo in my living room.

How about the best trade for the other guy.....

Right before the draft last year I gave him D. Williams for his 3rd round pick in a rookie draft and S. Rice.

Ouch....

Last year before the season started and after the Favre hoopla, I traded James Hardy and Early Doucet for Greg Jennings. Could be too early to call it my best ever but as of right now it looks pretty darn good.

In 2004:

I get Ladainian Tomlinson

I give Kevan Barlow and Onterrio Smith

Have won 4 championships in 5 years since that trade.

Tough question to answer.

A few years ago I took over an existing team in a contract IDP Dynasty league. The owner had decided prior to the season past that he was getting out, and he essentially ruined the future of the team while taking a stab at one last championship before he quit. I was a bit of a noob to this kind of league, with only one season in one league under my belt.

I have kept a blog of the rebuild here. *No offense intended to anyone, that just happens to be where I wrote the blog. Subsequent updates to the story are here and here.

The best trade for my rebuild plan might be:

I executed a trade with RajnCajn sending: Foster, De'shaun SFO RB;Jennings, Greg GBP WR;Cole, Trent PHI DE;Davis, Thomas CAR LB;Page, Jarrad KCC S; Year 2009 Round 4 Draft Pick from Williamsburg Warriors FOR: Jones, Kevin CHI RB;Stewart, Jonathan CAR RB;Stallworth, Donte' CLE WR;Edwards, Ray MIN DE;Huff, Michael OAK S; Year 2009 Round 1 Draft Pick from Swamp Thing (rajncajn)
or
I executed a trade with Skylive5. I sent Brett Favre to him for a second round draft pick and $10
In any case, that's a convoluted path to redemtion in that league. I still might be a year away, because my contracts are a mess and I may need a year to sort it out, but I think the playoffs are in my future.

both last summer...

macgahee for mike turner

09 rookies picks 2nd to 5th round, which were the last pick in each round, for chris johnson

Obviously worked out to be a great trade, but just out of curiosity what led to the trade? I never quite understand the motivation behind 1-for-1 swaps at the same position and, in this case, in a similar scenario (i.e., not trading potential for an aging vet). It's one of those situations where it's a tough sell... it doesn't address any need, and usually comes down to one side trying to convince the other that they like their player better but they're willing to part with him because... why exactly?

I traded David Boston straight up for Randy Moss after Boston's monster year. That worked out ok.
Ouch!...but does he still have Boston on his roster? September 17th, 2005. One year after Jerry Porter's 9 TD performance, I traded Porter for the rights to a 2007 1st round pick. Target: Calvin Johnson. Calvin Johnson acquired.
