"The Big Old Stone" - Ronnie Brown (1 Viewer)

Buffalo is giving up 172 yards per game on the ground AND Ricky is coming back next week.

If there was ever a time for Ronnie Brown to bust out THIS is the game.

145 yards and 2 TD's.

GAS IT UP Otis. The bus to Buffalo is leaving NOW.
:headbang:

Just for posterity I watched the Ronnie Brown video before leaving for work today.  I had a little extra skip in my step as I walked to the subway.

Hope you didn't Knock anyone over.......BIG Weekend for Br. Brown

Saban expects Williams to come along slowly in return
Running back Ricky Williams, whose four-game suspension ends Monday, probably will need to be brought along slowly, Dolphins coach Nick Saban said Thursday."We have an idea of how we're going to use him, but we don't have an idea of where he is in terms of how much we'll use him. There's a difference," Saban said. "You try to bring players back role-wise without putting them at risk for injury."
Some great conversation in that link, also. :)

One of Ronnie's difficulties was the late signing and lack of practice. Well, he got some game experience and now has had two full weeks of practice. Time to rock it, baby, time to rock it.

I have been following the Miami pre-season intently. To anyone who says Ricky's "head isn't in it" all I can say is you have not been paying attention.

Now I realize that his head could come "out of it" at any given time, but by all accounts he came to Florida to play football and has worked hard with a great attitude the entire pre-season.

In addition Brown faces 4 tough run defenses in the first four weeks, and Miami looks to be playing from behind a lot this year.

IF Brown has a STELLAR first four games, against solid D's and behind what might be the worst O-line in the league there is a chance he wins the starting job.

I don't think it very likely. I don't think the view from on top of the "Big Old Stone" will be very nice until 2006.
Saban detailed a typical conversation with the enigmatic running back Thursday, saying he usually gets short, to-the-point answers and nothing else. ``Every time I ask him how he's doing, he says, 'Good,''' Saban said. ``And I say, 'What's up, dog?' And he says nothing. I say 'OK, how are you doing?' or ``Do you feel good?'''

The typical response: ``Yeah, I feel good.''

Saban's next question: ``I saw you running in the rain yesterday. How did you like that?''

Williams' reply: ``It was OK.''

Saban listed a couple other questions, which apparently got the same sort of tough-to-read answers.

``What judgment I am supposed to make out of that? I have no idea,'' Saban said.

So I take it everyone in this thread is starting RBrown this week? Who are you guys starting him over? What about someone like Portis who is going up against the Broncos in Den? Just curious to see what the bandwagon crew is doing....

I haven't actually watched the last two Dolphin games, despite being a huge homer. Can someone objective (ie - not Otis) give me a decent review of HOW he is running - a beyond the stats view.Is he breaking tackles, is he hitting holes hard, is he running with two hands on the ball through the line, is the OL looking good or is he making plays - etc., etc., etc.

Up until just fumbling the ball moments ago to blow the game for the Dolphins, he looked great. :bag:

Ronnie Brown hit the holes hard and punished tacklers. Honestly, he looked a lot like Cadillac did against the Bills in week 2.

Thanks Aaron - so does that mean he was getting tackled and putting a hurt on them, or was he BREAKING tackles like Cadillac was doing against the Bills?

Going to make things REALLY interesting next week.....

He was hitting the hole with a full head of steam and running through defenders. Bills run defense is very, very bad this year. But, he was good enough to take advantage when he was called upon to do so.

Miami had 5 turnover and 18 penalties in the game. Surprisingly they had a chance with under 2 minutes to go but Ronnie fumbled the ball. It looked like his knee was down but they didn't get the call. Other than that very costly fumble he ran hard today.

For those who did not have a chance to watch the game, Brown looked very sharp yesterday. He hit the holes with burst and authority, he caught passes out of the backfield, he pounded defenders. He was very, much as I hate to say this, Ricky-esque out there. The one problem was the closing drive. The Fish were down 6 with about 2 minutes on the clock, and began a march up the field with Brown as the main weapon. Frerotte just kept handing and dumping it off to Brown as he essentially moved the chains on his own. They had all the momentum in the world, and I was almost certain that they were going to win on either a McMichael or Brown touchdown. If that happens, Brown becomes the hero and the return of Ricky next week becomes afterthought. However, a crucial fumble by Brown stopped that drive cold. Brown now becomes the goat. With Ricky returning next week, it was certainly be interesting to see what happens here. I still love Brown's dynasty prospects, but in redrafts I think that fumble could turn out to be very, very costly.I'm still 100% on board here folks, don't get me wrong.I'm gonna go watch the Big Old Stone highlight video to get me through this drab monday morning. I might take out my secretary with a stiff arm afterwards...

The defender that forced the fumble was quoted this morning as saying he was trying to punch the ball out all game because "the dude's a load ..." Sounds like someone else is on the bus!

MIA homer here. that loss has nothing to do with Brown. those penalties killed us. giving BUF free first downs kept them in the game. We should have won that game easily.

That is probably right, and I am not a MIA homer, but I question whether the most recent screwup is the one that will stay freshest in the minds of coaches and fans. (I know that if it were the NY media it could end up that way).

I'll give credit where credit's due. Brown is starting to play like a top 5 pick.
I'm sorry EBF but we are all sold out. :( Maybe you can get on board early next year for the Reggie Bush bandwagon?

Otis, my man, you need to switch to decaf on Mondays.

I actually thought Saban's coaching staff really lost the game by not giving Brown more carries. They were playing the worst run defense in the NFL, the O-Line was opening holes, and the Big Old Stone was rolling. If they gave him 25 carries, the Dolphins might have won that game. Many of the turnovers came in the passing game because they decided to throw on 1st or second down, got a couple of incompletions, and were forced into third and long with the defenders blitzing and/or jumping on the routes.

Nobody in the post game mentioned this or Brown's fumble. They all talked about the number of penalties.

Well I think that is excellent news for Brown owners.I don't necessarily agree that they should have been running more. If anything I think it's important that they pass to open up the run, and if nothing else, to keep the offense a bit more dynamic than Wanny's plodding, predictable offense was.

I would, however, like to see Brown utilized more in the passing game, the way he was during that last drive.

Although I was unaware of the bandwagon existence (because I just discovered the FBG message board last week) I would like permission to climb aboard.Back in July in my dynasty league I traded Kyle Boller and Steve Smith for Ronnie Brown and a #1 pick. It was tough to let Smith go after holding on to him all last year (no IR) but I think Brown will prove to be the best RB from the 2005 draft class.

Waves as the train moves on and prays not too many are hurt when the train derails

Ok, well then me, Otis and the gang are aiming for the puddles when you're standing on the curb waiting to hitch a ride in week 6, all you're gonna get is wet! :P
Well I hopped on board as a charter member...since Duece blew out his knee, and Dillon is hurt/on the bye, Big Old Stone is my number 2 this week and I'm driving the wagon!!! C'Mon Stone, ride me to a win!!!! And flare up the pipe Ricky, PLEASE!!!!!

Seriously though, I hear the carries will be 50/50 this week, somebody say it ain't so!!!

I'm in the unenviable position of starting BOTH Ronnie and Ricky (Dillon/McCallister), so I'm rooting for 58 rushing attempts, split evenly at 4.4 yds per carry (with 4 total rushing TDs). Too much to ask?

So who's starting him with confidence against KC tomorrow?
I just hope he finds the endzone again. Fred Taylor and Foster are on bye and J.J. Arrington is still missing, so I gotta go with Brown as my #2 this week.

Yes, it was too much to ask.R.Brown 8 for 95 (11.9 avg!!! ) 1 TD + 15 yds rec.

R.Williams 6 for -1 0 TD 0 rec :bag:

I guess 65 yd TD runs really help the bottom (stat) line. ;)

Quite clear that they need to get Ronnie the ball. Even without the 65 yard bust he's still 7-35 with a 5 ypc average (not trying to say the 65 yd bust doesn't count by by means). This is not someone who should only be getting only 8-10 carries a game. Should be more like 25. Maybe Saban has the right idea though. Ease Brown into the league so he doesn't get hurt? Caddy hit the ground running and got knicked up pretty quickly.

I think they could have made this game with the Chiefs a hell of a lot closer than it was, if they fed this guy the ball. He should be their workhorse.

Only eight carries this week. :X At least the Big Ole Stone is making the most of his limited opportunities. I just wish Saban would wake up and realize that his 1st round pick should be getting at least 15-20 carries per game.

Another solid game for the Big Old Stone.Ye who joined us before the season are reaping the reward. And I'm sorry, but we are all filled up. There may be space on one of the other bandwagons (I hear Reshard Lee is getting lonely).

Thanks O.But, It's a shame that the "Wait till Ricky - the better, Proven back come's back" bandwagon people get off so easily without torture and beatings......

I know one prominent member who Dropped Ricky last week

I'm glad I picked him at a good time in my draft, but sorry I started him yesterday over MB3 and Dillon in one league.

Miami's Brown real deal

Friday, November 11, 2005

By CHRIS KENNEDY

ckennedy@repub.com

New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick certainly talks up each of his team's opponents, that is nothing unusual.

Belichick, though, used especially glowing terms to praise Miami Dolphins rookie running back Ronnie Brown. The coach labeled the 6-foot, 232-pound rookie the best young running back a team of his has faced since San Diego's LaDainian Tomlinson entered the league in 2001.

What did Miami coach Nick Saban say to that?

"I hope he is right," Saban said.

Belichick definitely has Brown pegged as a big-time back.

"He's really impressive," Belichick said. "He's got good speed, good vision, really runs hard. He has good hands, it's really like a receiver running the ball."

Brown will have a chance to show Belichick just how good he is tomorrow when the Dolphins host the Patriots. Brown has carried 126 times for 611 yards, a healthy average of 4.8 yards per carry. He also has 19 catches for 125 yards, and those numbers should only improve.

"Brown I think is exceptional in the passing game," Belichick said, adding "You have guys like Marshall Faulk and guys like that (who) are just exceptional backs as receivers. I think he's going to fall into that category. ...

"Most guys need two hands to catch the ball. It looks like he barely even needs one. It's just like he has a catcher's mitt on, or first baseman's glove, he just reaches out and plucks it and never even breaks stride. He has a lot of confidence in his hands too."

Saban knew a little something about Brown before he drafted him third overall last April. While Brown was at Auburn, Saban was the coach at LSU.

"We had some of the same issues (in college) trying to get him on the ground," Saban said. "We're very pleased with his progress and development as a player. ... He's pretty much what we expected."

(continuation about RW, Chambers, etc)
