The Bill Simmons Podcast (2 Viewers)

Simmons taking credit for a likely expansion of the NBA playoffs, which would look absolutely nothing like his long-tortured "entertaining as hell" tournament is going to provide generations worth of unintentional comedy.

I always like when the NHL gets grief for too many teams in the playoffs when I think percentage-wise the NBA already has more teams  make the playoffs

"The NBA's first round is unwatchable! So many of the series are uncompetitive and sweeps! We should fix this by having the bottom teams play more games before they go on to face the top seeds, who are now getting even more time to rest!"

I listened to the bit he did about the Oscars, because I really like Wesley Morris and movies. Simmons was a ####### ####### throughout.

Man he is getting drug across twitter tonight. Seems like the type of thing his ####ty website would write about if he didn’t own it.

Insisting a girl you're on a date with eat clam chowder when she says she has a shellfish allergy has to be shtick, right?
He's so clueless. "My wife likes to tell this story to all her friends, but she always distorts it to make it sound like I knew she was sick before she went to the bathroom."

(AS IF THAT MAKES A ####### DIFFERENCE!)

Eh, his wife is a St Bonnie’s grad and grew up in upstate NY. Marrying Bill saved her from a career at Chotchkie’s married to a dairy farmer.

lmao how is this a "bad take"?
It's not a bad take, but Bill is so sensitive that he can't handle the slightest bit of criticism. Also, he probably could have phrased things differently -- if he had said "fake support animals are bad" instead of "emotional support dogs are bad", then he probably wouldn't have received a bunch of backlash from owners of legitimate support dogs.

Right. It was apparently a comment following up an article he'd posted earlier about people who were abusing the ability to bring an emotional support animal on an airplane. Which is bad, but he lumped them all in together. And then after trying to clarify, he linked some trash-### "Vox" article about how nobody knows if emotional support animals actually are helpful.

Someone made a comment that he was an emotional support animal for over-serious Boston bros (sorry Thorn), which was pretty good.

It seems to me that he's gotten sloppy in his mannerisms.  More swallowing burps, sniffling, lip smacking - is that just him getting older, or am I just noticing something that's always been there.

His ad reads... an "oh yeah!" thrown in doesn't mean you sound like you've even read the copy before.

I chuckled at this top response:

I still haven’t read the right “What the hell happened to Kevin Ollie at UConn?” story. He won a title in 2014 and could have had any open NBA job for the next 2 years. Now he’s unemployed?

Shouldn't he be prepping for another Durant podcast?

Andre documentary was fantastic. Say what you will about BS or his role in making this film, but it was outstanding. Far better than the Ric Flair 30 for 30.

Just finished watching it and I agree it was really good. I could listen to people talk about Andre all day, so I kind of wish they had more interviews with different wrestlers. They did a great job overall with it, though.

It was good....and it was better than the Ric Flair documentary......but it fell short of being on the same level as the classic 30 For 30s.

I felt like they spent too much time showing a bunch of boring nobodies who didn't add much to Andre's story (I'm looking at you, Wrestling Historian Guy). Meanwhile, the entire cast of "The Princess Bride" got maybe 3 minutes of screen time.

I thought it was good but not great. Felt lacking to me. It was super weird how 50 minutes in it became a Hulk Hogan documentary. That was startling. I feel like they could have told that story without so much Hulk backstory.

Francesa's argument for LeBron being MVP and the Harden bashing was ridiculous and over the top but it was very funny seeing Simmons steamrolled on his own podcast. Doesn't matter how many times you record a one on one conversation, even being on your own turf can't make up for decades of berating callers and dominating the conversation like Francesa has under his belt.

"Spoiler alert: I think Lamar Jackson will be one of the top 2 QBs from this draft (and really really really hope the Patriots get him)."

Sorry Lamar.  RIP, your career.

When they announced that David Chang was going to be getting a podcast on his network, it wasn't very unexpected given all the talk and pub Simmons has done for him and his new restaurant, but I had no real interest in hearing him talk about food. But now knowing that he's been recording podcasts dating back to December about the lead up and eventual launch of his new restaurant, which is supposedly amazing, sounds really damn cool. I guess it's the Top Chef/Restaurant Wars fan in me.

I doubt I'll keep on listening down the line once it morphs into Chang interviewing other celebrities but I'm fully in on hearing all the behind the scenes stuff, especially knowing it was recorded in real time. Very good idea by these guys.

Oh and bonus points if he tried hiring a chef with Tourettes who screams random obscenities. "Boycock, girlcock, E-I-E-I-O!"

Got sucked in and started listening to this dumb podcast with Windhorst (who I like fwiw). They're discussing Lebron theories, and Simmons asks with an arched eyebrow if Windhorst knows who reps Embiid. "CAA?...WMG? I'm having a brainfart." Simmons then drops on him that it's Leon Rose. Windhorst says "Oh, right CAA." (Rose works for CAA), and Simmons just keeps trucking over him.

He's the heir to the Sports Pope.

I only listen to Simmons talk to Haralbob or interview athletes Cousin Sal. Otherwise he's unbearable.
Serious?  It's cause you are a Warriors fan and the only athlete he ever "interviews" (i.e. "fellates") is Durant, isn't it?  He's great with Sal.  I listened to the last Harallalabobb one, but otherwise I've given up.

Correction, he's apparently on the Ringer wrestling podcast today.  I'll listen to Bill talk about stupid wrestling too.  I am sure he'll make me laugh on that topic.

Eh. Not interested in listening to two idiots making sports bets.

I probably wouldn’t have noticed this unless you pointed it out, but it was pretty bad.

I don't know who the woman was that Simmons had on to talk about SNL, but she had the worst vocal fry I ever heard. Couldn't make it more than 2 minutes.

It could legitimately be used to torture information out of suspected terrorists.

Same thing for me, but I think I only made it about 20 seconds.
