A Constitution requirement of being president is being a citizen. The issue was raised first by Hillary Clinton, so this is not a Republican issue. Rather is an issue of whether he is a citizen of the USA. The press had no problem going after John McCain on the same issue.

An executive interviewing to be CEO of a small company gets more scrutiny than did Obama being President for the USA.

So the question is legitimate. What is not legitimate is that he waited 2 1/2 years to release this document. Something smells to high heaven.

I believe he was born in Hawaii and the issue is not that big a deal. What is a big deal is that this looks like a cover up and the press covered for him. That the press is in bed with Obama.

So why now. This could have been put to bed a long time ago?

But Obama could have played one less golf game or one less game of basketball and put this issue to rest. This should not take much time at all. So why did he let it drag out. Why is that? One reason is that they wanted to paint the right wing as extremist and this looks like like an extremist issue. Coulter ( as much as I don't like her) is politically savvy...and she realized that Obama and the Democratic media weren't going to let the issue go because support of it was so damning to the people (and by extension the politicians and Party)who embraced it. They would have been foolish to let the Republicans and their Fringe looneys out of the corner on this one. Obama picked the time and place to do it....more or less rendered Trump (and people like Bachman) impotent, and managed to define the reason for releasing it on his own terms.....that is was good for the American people.

I thnink the Right still wins a lot of points because Obama realized that 40% of the country was doubting he was born here so they felt pressured to get this out to the public. I don't think the Left picks up any momentum from this at all.

I never believed the birthers thought he was born elsewhere, it was simply an issue that was easy to strike at and they gained more than they lost. None of the major players running for the GOP were out in front of this other than Trump.
