The Brink - HBO (1 Viewer)

I was entertained by the previews for this and Ballers whle GoT was on. I caught this and the last 5 minutes of Ballers.

This does have potential, but at least for this episode, the only scenes I really liked and want more of are Tim Robbins in and out of the situation room. I can leave Jack Black where he is, he brought nothing at all that I need more of. The pilot and his exwife.... meh. Will probably catch it next week.

Agree. Tim Robbins was by far the best thing about the episode.

 
I will watch it again, but I'm kind of torn as to what they are going for. It's seems to be very serious subject matter that they are determined to keep light & comedic. I'm not necessarily sure this can hold up.

I wrote in the True Detective thread that it had a Burn After Reading meets Dr. Strangelove feel. I'm wondering, like you, if that can hold.

I didn't really enjoy it all that much, what I saw of it, anyway (about ten minutes or so). It may be that I binge-watch HBO on Sundays and inevitably catch it because of that. Dunno.

Nailed it on this one. Tim Robbins was very good. Jack Black needs to go do Nacho Libre II and get out of TV shows. Ok, he can still do the voice of Kung Fu Panda, but that's it.....

Even with Black, I thought it was pretty good and will give it a chance.

eta: I'm sure I'll end up watching the full season hoping to see Black's Pakistani friend's sister get naked.

I'm surprised this show isn't getting more love. It is not as good as VEEP or Silicon Valley, but it is easily better than Ballers.

Tim Robbins does a great job with his character. Even Jack Black was watchable in the second episode. Some pretty good lines last night.

 
Even Robbins' role was terrible in last night's episode. The noises Robbins was making to express his pain proved a bit too much for me.

I'm still going to stick around and hope it can turn around.

 
Am I the only one who is continuing to watch this show?

I enjoy the way they are writing this thing. The story line for the two airmen is pretty entertaining. The navigator is a bit one-dimensional, but the pilot is pretty good.

Unfortunately this series was DOA with Jack Black as a main character.

 
I still like it. Yesterday's episode was a bit transitional and I really don't think they need to be adding in a love story with Talbot and Rafiq's sister (didn't get her name). The weird arts dealers were mildly entertaining. Still like Robbins character...

I wouldn't totally do away with the love story. I'm still waiting for a nude scene with Rafiq's sister. Although how they can do it without Talbot (I'd rip my eyes out if I saw Jack Black naked) should be interesting. A shower scene where she pleasures herself would work for me.

 
There not even making a pretense any longer. I think the show ran for 20 - 22 minutes last night.

Still watching this show. Must be a form of penance. Watching Jack Black is painful. Too bad Robbins isn't in enough scenes (100%) to carry the show himself.

 
One of the things I like best about this show is that it doesn't try to hide the ludicrousness of the acting. Things like the Israeli Premier saying that the nuke couldn't be destroyed as a psyche to Robbins is prevalent throughout the show.

 
She's definitely showing her age but I still have a major thing for Carla Gugino. Sexy as hell.

Liked the show. Will definetly watch next season.

Great. That makes two of us. No wonder they extended it.

 
Yeah I didn't think black was that bad either. Hes much more subdued than he was during his run of silly movies a few years back. Thought it was a good role for him and his style worked with the overall campy theme of the show.

Maybe I'm just have a predisposition toward hating the guy. Just looking at his face and his wonderful ability to over-act is enough for me to dislike him as an actor. This show has almost a comic-book type feel to it, but Jack Black's over-acting goes even beyond the (loveable) hokey nature of the show IMO.
