The Case Against the President: Emoluments, Trump's Finances, Taxes & Foundation (1 Viewer)

Trump Doral is a good location for such an event, since the compound is very near MIA, can hold all delegations, and is insulated from the outside. It has 3 golf courses too. It's the off-season, so prices are good.

But it will benefit Trump.
The security experts whose opinions I read a couple of months ago said being near MIA was bad because it might mean shutting down airspace and affecting flights. Also, Dural's proximity to neighborhoods made it hard to secure.  That is why more remote locations like Camp David and Sea Island, GA (where the island was closed down) were used in the past.

Excellent points. Traffic in Doral, which is already bad, will be a nightmare on the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday meeting days.

Right.  The G7 is always held in areas that are fairly remote and easily secured.   Obama originally wanted to hold it in Chicago but it was changed to Camp David for security reasons.   Doral is a huge resort with three public golf courses in the middle of Miami.   Are they going to shut it down while the G7 is going on?  I doubt it.

WaPo's David Farenthold tweet after the G7 announcement:

How bad does @realdonaldtrump’s Doral need this business? Look what’s happened there during his presidency. In ONE YEAR, from ‘16-‘17: —revenue fell 13.8% —Net operating income fell 62%

At some point you wonder if he's just got a bet with a buddy on how far he can go.  "No literally, I bet I can host the G7 at my resort and get away with it".

The Trump Organization on Thursday said it was “honored” to have been chosen by its owner, the president, for this event.
In retrospect I guess it's amazing Trump didn't announce this himself. It's funny because the whole reason Mulvaney just cracked open a few hand grenades on live tv is he was just announcing this piece of stunning self-dealing.

Hi. There is no level of corruption greater than a President participating in the award of a contract to himself. We have reached the bottom. If the Senate will not act to stop this, there is no government ethics program. It's over.

I heard it's close to some good massage places also, help these leaders relieve some tension

Kleptocracy.

Rubio says it's all good because it means more money for area businesses as some attendees don't like bed bugs or care for golf.

See, I was thinking about this.  Remember how the bad guy in Men in Black was a giant bug?  I think it's possible that Trump is such an alien and these are "bed bugs" are his offspring.  By having the G7 at Doral it gives him the ability to infect and spread his brood to every corner of the world.

What? It's as convincing as Mulvaney didn't admit to a jumpy& pro quo.

Send it to SNL, it a great idea.

Just directly above his comment.  All he had to do was look up.

Just don't see you as a typical right-winger.  Not at all.

But, let's face it, anyone to the right of Jill Stein is a right winger to BST.
Evidently this is incorrect. Because you've always seemed far more nuanced then that. And that's with me not agreeing with you on very much that Ive read of yours. Even if you tilt that direction. Kind of like IK or Yankee or w/e.

You said that because I don't play with kid gloves with the inconsiderate firebrands on the right side, and most on the left are far more courteous.

President Trump cancelled this because he is still worried about public pressure, and the opinions of Senators.

But make no mistake: if he survives impeachment and then somehow wins re-election, he will know that he needn’t worry about either ever again. And then he will act on his own whims for the next 4 years.

Correct about acting on his own whims, completely unfettered even more than now, for the next 4 years if he gets reelected.

BTW, the 2 distinguished Republican Senators from Florida, Rubio and Scott, both thought it was a great idea to bring the G7-G8 to Trump Doral because it would be good business for Miami and Florida. Men of  principles.

Suggested slogan for their next campaigns: "It's not corruption if it benefits us!"

To be fair, I don't think there's a conspiracy to break the Emoluments clause law on the books.
Definitely not a conspiracy as he's openly doing it.  The more I've read about this the real reason he changed his mind about having the G7 at Doral is because some powerful republicans told him that they are sick and tired of defending his horrible (illegal) decisions.
