So this year is the first time I've ever made it to the title match and it figures that it would happen in both my leagues the same year!

The first league I have been in for 17 years. Its very competative with basically the same 12 owners since it started and it costs a decent chunk of change. I've won division titles multitple times, have a 5 year playoff streak going and have won enough to cover my entry free for the next year the past 3 years but in 17 years have never made it past the second round until this year. Its exactly like that movie "Warrior" because I have to play my brother who has also been in this league equally as long but never won a title either. At this point its not really about the money(OK yes it is) but damn really I want that trophy in my house all year and sitting next to me at the 2012 draft!

My other league is a 10 team (6)keeper thats been around for about 7 years. This one is more just for fun(been holding onto C.J. Spiller its finally paying off) and if my wife would have listened to me and played Reggie Wayne last week I would have been playing her for the championship(dodged a bullet there)!

I'd prefer to win my big $ league but after 17 years I better win at least one of these games this weekend or I might just give up on this crazy hobbie(no way I'm to much of a massocist).

I made the Championship game the first year I ever played, 2004, and won it the next year. Despite making the big game once since, I haven't lifted the trophy. Fairly confident of doing so this week as I'm comfortably the highest point scorer in the league and have been remarkably consistent. Haven't had any injuries either, which has probably been key to my success.

It could still go pear-shaped though

Our league is celebrating its 25th year this season. Yes, 25 years, so for the first 10 years or so, it was all manual calculations based on reviewing the boxscores in Monday's newspaper!! I've won the league several times, but this week I'm in the championship matched against a good friend of mine who's never won the league in 25 attempts. I'll almost feel guilty if I beat him. Almost.

To the PTTS guy above....it's not that bad and it's actually an interesting topic.

In my own league I made it to the championship game in my 7th and 8th years and finally won it all in my 9th year. Won again in my 12th. You have to love the game to stick it out for years and years without winning anything. Honestly though, I wasn't very good before joining this site in 2005 and since I've been a member it has payed off royally. I also play in multiple leagues every year now and have had other chances to win titles. I have a chance this week to win a title in a league I just joined this year. Hopefully I'll get a little lucky and win another one.

I won my first title in year three. Had a crazy good year (thank you terrell Davis and Randall Cunningham). My first year was absolutely terrible and my second was marginal. I play in 2-4 leagues every year and win 1-2 every couple of years.

I never seem to win with my "best" teams and that is my biggest frustration.

congrats on making the title game after all this time.

Rookie year.

My first year was in 2004, and I was that fill-in owner that knew nothing about fantasy football. I had to be talked into it (I was the league guppy). It was a work league with crazy bonus scoring for long TD's, bonus pts for 100 yard rushing games, 300 yard passing games, etc. I felt I was in over my head, but I joined with a $25/week premium at stake, and total points took a $350 prize at the end. I somehow drafted by sheer luck the best players, including Antonio Gates who nobody knew of at all. Took him in the 20th round IIRC. Ended up dominating the league and my weekly winnings were a given. The league disbanded the next year, when nobody wanted me back. I honestly don't know how I did it.

Then, I went 5 years barely making the playoffs only to get buried in the first round of all my leagues. I decided to sign up for FBG's subscription, and coincidentally last year won 2 out of 2 money leagues championships. This year, I have advanced to 3 out of 3 league championships.

3 years in both. After 17 years I'd have given up and started doing something I don't suck at.
I know you're kind of joking but it took me 14 years to finally win the championship (last season) in my long running re-draft league. We only have 4 teams (out of the 12) make the playoffs which makes winning a championship even tougher. I was in two championship games (and lost) prior to winning it, and finished in second place during the first season (when it was a total points league - moved to HtH the second year).I will say it was a relief. :banned:

6 years in my favorite league now and several 2nd & 3rd finishes but no first. Yet.

6 years in a league I recently dropped (weak commish & no bylaws) and I took 2nd place twice but never 1st.

Last year I joined another league and won it. (one & done in the playoffs this year)

This year I joined my first ever auction league and I'm in the championship game this weekend.

You bring up a good point but if there's anything I've learned from this season it's that just because you suck at something you enjoy dosen't mean you can't be successfull at it and that you should give up. If you beleive anything is possible just look at the QB that has taken my team to it's first championship in 17 years...........Tim Tebow......I'm not sure if its coincidence or divine intervention.

Won the 1st one my Rookie year :excited:

It was a fluke of sorts.. I left the company I was working for around week 13 of the season. This was back in the Pencil and paper way of turning in line-ups and scoring.

I was so busy trying to learn my new job I never called the owner of the league to change my line-up..

Good thing seeing as I won it and didn't make some knee jerk change at the last minute..

I remember getting a call a couple weeks after the season was over from the Owner of the league asking "When do you want to meet to get your money?"

I asked.. "What Money"

To which he replied.. "you won the Championship"

:jawdrop: :excited:

My home league is in year 16. It is 16 team league. It has 9 original owners and 2 that have been in for 14 years.

Out of these 11 owners we have only 4 owners that have won. Out of our other 5, we have 1 that won last year. Couple of more defunct owners have also won. 4 of the 7 owners that have not won SB have been to final at least once(One owner has 4 appearances that have all been losses Last one was 7 years ago). 1 of the 5 has been to SB and 2 defunct owners have been there.

This year it is the 2nd appearance for one owner(he lost his first attempt) vs team going for 8th time(he has 6 wins)

Considering you should be year 16, have 1 win and 1 more appearance, we have quiet a few owners that still are lacking. For the 3 long standing owners with no appearances, only 1 made the playoffs this year. He lost in the semi's to the #1 seed.

For my "main" money league it was year two. I've won it an additional 2 times in the 11 years it's existed and finished 2nd once as well.

12-man league and we've only had 5 champions over the course of the league's life. This year's title match features an owner who, IIRC, has only made the friggin' playoffs once and it was, like, eight or nine years ago. He's never won a single dollar in this setup yet. I guess I'm kind of pulling for him....though part of me will haze him in perpetuity if he loses. :)

19 year league in which I have joined in its 3rd year...I have made playoffs in 16 of the 17 years, won my division in 15 of those years...but only won the title twice. It took me 6 years to win the first one , and 8 more years to win the second one.I have never lost in the championship game but I have only been there twice. I seem to have a semifinal curse regardless of how good my team seems to be.

In my other league - in its 5th year. I won the title each of the first two years, lost in the championship the 3rd year, and then the guy that beat me won it again the next year. This year, neither one of us made the playoffs so we are guaranteed a new champion. I got hosed on a tiebreaker for the playoffs or I would be going for title #3. Instead I am just going to win the consolation bracket and make back part of my entry fee.

Went 16-0 and won the championship in my very first season. Totally serious. Only undefeated season I've ever seen. It was a $ league and I was invited by some guys who had been playing for a long time.

It was the season Alexander broke the TD record, though I didn't own him...my team consisted of Carson Palmer, LT, SJax, Reggie Wayne, Chad Johnson, Steve Smith and Antonio Gates. It looks absolutely insane when I look back...easily the best team I've ever seen compiled and I had no clue what I was doing.

So 1 championship appearance in 24 league-years? That's not very good. Congrats though!

won it in my 3rd year in my main league (think 2002), then a couple more after that in other leagues, then went a streak of making finals and losing (2 last year :bag: ). In 3 finals this year, if I don't get one I'm changing my name to Jim Kelly.

I won it in my first year. During the draft in my second year of the same league, the commish "accidentally" ran out the clock when my pick was up, giving my a default player I didn't want. I quit the league and asked for my money back. He refused, then 5 years later he paypalled me the money.

Well technically its 2 champ apperances in 24 seasons of FF since I made the title match in both my leagues this year. I think H2H playoffs are just flukey. There's only been a handfull of times that I haven't made the playoffs its just that it hasn't all come together for me until this season. There's actually I beleive at least 4 other owners in my 17 year league that have not won a championship it may be 5 but I'd have to look it up. My wife's first year of FF in my 10 team league she made it to the championship game.

H2H is flukey, no doubt.

This is really only the second year I've paid close attention and spent time on my team beyond just setting a weekly lineup. In my main league (the one I care about the most), I am in my third season and in the Championship game. I've never won.

Year One - Finished 7th out of 8.

Year Two - Finished 4th out of 12 (we added four new teams that year), lost in the first game of the playoffs.

This Year - Finished 2nd out of 12, with the highest point total, in the Championship game.

I did win a league the very first year I started playing, but it was sheer luck and I typically finished out of the playoffs in most leagues I played in due to the lack of attention I gave my teams. I played in three leagues this year and finished 1st, 2nd, and 4th overall (all 12 team leagues). I lost in the first round of the playoffs in the leagues where I finished 1st and 4th, however.

I got lucky and won it my first four years in our seventeen year old league. This was back when you had to dig for stats/trends in newspaper and magazine hard copy and were really rewarded for doing a lot of work. In the last thirteen years I have won again four times with a chance to win it again this weekend, although I'm a long-shot as my opponent has the better team. I'll be happy to see him win though as he has been in our league for ten years and this would be his first.

We're in the 13th year of our league, and I'm in the championship game for only the 3rd time. Haven't won it yet either. And, when our league finishes determining a winner, we play against the winner of a sister league for an interleague trophy and another payout.

Been playing for 9 years in my main league and this is the first time I ever made it to the finals. Hopefully I'll get my name on that trophy. I bought the damn thing 6 years ago and haven't seen it since.
