The Cream of the Crop (2012 Draft Prospects) (1 Viewer)

BigTex

Don't mess with Texas
Now concentrating on the best in the country. This is for the Dynasty FBGers who don't have time to watch full games but need to see the prospects for themselves. Please note that the vids I did myself will show the players every touch, attempt and/or pass. These are not just highlights of the players "best" plays and that's what separates my vids from the rest. It's for you to judge for yourself and get at least to see the players complete game and not just his "highlights."

I've already posted some of my other draft resources that I tend to view to compare my bigboard with to see if there something I've missed.

Griffin definitely looks like NFL material from what I've seen.

I was about to suggest Russel Wilson for this list then noticed he's only 5'11. didn't realize he's that short. Guy plays bigger

Add Clemson TE Dwayne Allen to your watch list.

I think his stock will continue to rise as Clemson's offense makes people take notice this year.

Big thanks for putting these together!

Since you're doing some true freshmen, Malcolm Brown from Texas would be another candidate.

Still like Vick Ballard quite a bit despite the two down weeks. Looked great last year and started off the season nicely. Worth keeping an eye on to see if he gets back on track.

D Jones (UNC) deserves a mention too. Dudes lighting it up and looks good doing it.

WR Nick Toon from Wisconsin is having a great senior year. He's fianlly healthy and living up to the high expectations that Badger fans have for him. He has caught nearly every ball thrown his way even when double covered and interfered with.

I love Toon...won't be the "sexy" pick as he does not have that top end down the field speed.I like the scouts take on him so far as a guy with good quick burst off the line, ability to get open or create space in traffic and go up and get the ball with is frame.Sounds like a very good #2 or slot guy for the NFL.

James looks like another undersized speed back to me with Reggie Bush type of upside and with major bust potential.
Similar, yes. I think James is a better runner and can be a pretty good Darren Sproles type player on the NFL.

Not a big fan of LaMike. Yea, he's quick, but most of his long runs are just straight shots through gaping holes. He's not as elusive as the great undersized NFL tailbacks like Jamaal Charles and he has no power whatsoever. You saw this against LSU. Get a hand on him and he goes down.

In the Pac-12, I think Cameron Marshall and Stepfan Taylor are better pro prospects.

I will admit, I do not know a lot about him, but in raleigh, I have seen Russell Wilson make a lot of mediocre guys look good. Toon to Wilson could be the second coming of Rivers to Cotchery (i.e. both made it in the Bigs), but if health is the issue, that is one thing...if he seems to be finally "getting it", I would caution the dynasty buyer.

Toon has always been pretty good...has had injuries derail his seasons...but also now has a QB who can get him the ball in some better spots and take more chances than they have in the past. Tolzien was a decent QB...but did not have the arm, or the moxy of Wilson and was a much more conservative QB.

I'm slowlyyyyy getting sucked into college football so I can get a leg up on the scouting. I'm completely oblivious to it though, never watched much before. Anyone want to recommend any nationally televised games for me to DVR in the coming weeks? Particularly interested in games with big talent that is expected to declare for the 2012 draft.

ETA: Or not so big talent that might turn big as we get closer to the Draft...

It sure would be nice to start a new post w/ this info or question because its quite relevent to me. I know when I have asked questions about specific players, an answer has seemed verbatim to what some scout/combine report had listed. It might be hard to find out the best redzone Defense's, but I would suggest looking at points allowed etc. to evaluate some players. Heres some info to use once you have a base to work from http://thexlog.com/2011-college-football-previews/ imo Id watch for QB's on teams w not much rushing (checkin that the QB's stats have improved each yr) Id use just the opposite for RB. I would use caution getting hyped on any WR's, because scouts for instance may look at the system being used, and obviously combine performance can dictate the players overall evaulation. Id almost believe it just as imporant to find a WR worthy of a future watch list (some players just cant pickup specific qualties at the NFL level, while some just have a burning desire to be the best)

I think it behoves you to keep an eye on freshman RB's. If you find a guy like Earl Campbell, you may see NFL performance level and really enjoy/look forward to watching him play (and the passion) I was almost heartbroken when I heard Earl had a hamstring injury and may not play, while Earl played (the whole yr) and you could see he didnt really have "it" but was still fun rooting for him (bonus would be evualting the rest of team and teams played) http://www.earlcampbell.com/EC/Bio_-_College_Years.html

p.s. I still kinda like Matt Barkley, maybe havnt seen enough of his play, but imo it seems like the play calling could be poor, and or the WR's may be questionable.

What do you guys thin of WR AJ Jenkins? I'm an Illini fan, so it's hard to be objective, but he's having a tremendous SR year.

Seems like he's always had the talent...just putting it together now. Seem's him and Scheelhaase have gotten quote a chemistry down at this point.

Is Nick Toon the son of Al Toon?
Yes, he is. I will say he had a very underwhelming first three years. Something happened for him at the end of last year where he started to show signs of being what they proclaimed him to be. This year hes proving he was just a late bloomer. His biggest struggle early in his career was his hands and consistency for sure, but I guess its like that with any young WR.

Rex Burkhead is a guy that I could see playing on Sunday's that nobody is talking about. The guy is a freight train and probably the type that would play all the specials and even FB if asked. He does everything well

edited: after I say this he gets stuffed on 3rd&4th & 1

No Bama players??Bama may well dominate the first round in this draft
He didn't list any Bama players because he already said this thread is for the lesser known talents, everybody already knows about Richardson and company. I'm still 50/50 on James, he's an electric college player but he's not very physical at all and will struggle if he's the lead back. I think his effectiveness in the NFL will be entirely dependent on which team drafts him and how they intend to use him. I think if he's used like a Jahvid Best type RB where he's a bigger piece of the passing game and is given the ball in space he can be a good pro, but if he's used like Reggie Bush was for the first part of his career as the main guy he's going to struggle. A team like the Bucs who already have a power runner with Blount could very well get the best out of James. I think his top end upside for fantasy potential will be a RB2 instead of RB1.Tex, are you working on a package for Sammy Watkins of Clemson? I know he's only a freshman but damn is this kid ever impressive. I think he's already one of the best WRs in college football today. I'm looking forward to seeing him continue to develop.

Yes, working on Clemson today. You are correct with the Bama comment. We know about them, see them every week and most of those players are already on ESPN on a weekly basis. I have the games just don't see a need to go through them. Some thing of note: the BIGGEST knock on YOUTUBE highlights on this board that I've seen in the past whenever a discussion about a draft prospect is brought up is the fact that it "only" shows the strengths or the positives of the prospect. When I post the WRs it's going to show the incomplete passes as well. So you guys can see if it was a bad pass, great play by the defender, miscommunication, bad route, drop pass by the WR etc..... Just keep that in mind.

Robert Woods is updated.

Lamar Miller vs Maryland and C. Marshall are next in que..........giddy up.

How about Kenny Stills? I know he's only a sophomore but he's impressed me quite a bit.

And EBF is right, Keenan Allen is a good one too.

Not too sure about him yet as I tend to focus on the top 20% and at this point he's not in the top 100 at his position but Broyles is the stud of that group.

He and my son went to school together, great kid. I'll see what happens as the season goes forward.

Tex,

Any way you could denote which of these guys are 2012 draft eligible in your original post? If so, that would be extremely helpful.

Thanks

The CBS 2:30 game on November 5th will be a good one for the guy that wants to watch good college football.

I watch the Pittsburgh RB Graham play a couple thursdays ago. He was excellent at making moves in the hole and showed very nice accelleration.

LSU's Reuben Randall at WR may be worth a look. He will not have gaudy stats in the LSU offense, but seems to have all the tools. If he has a decent 40 time, watch out.

Robert Woods is incredible. He's the best WR in college football, regardless of class. I think he's the best WR prospect since Calvin Johnson.

Ok - missed that part, sorry.

You can certainly make a case for him. Sammy Watkins is IT for me. Scouts have called him the next Deon Sanders and he hasn't proved them wrong.
