The death of the hybrid... (1 Viewer)

if you want to do away with loophole hybrids and the frustrations they cause...

establish a scoring system that doesn't award ANY points for tackles by DLinemen, though if you do... maybe boost the DL glory stats so they are still drafted earlier than kickers

that way if you get for example a bryan thomas luckily listed at DL, but he plays LB, you will not get any tackle points and thus the hybrid is defeated

thoughts?

I absolutely hate it. It solves a problem, but creates another one. It completely alleviates the value of making tackles by a DL, which clearly have value. As long as you're willing to score LB's for just tackles, RB's for just rushing, and QB's for just passing, maybe it would work wiuth the right set of people - but I doubt they play IDP leagues. It's along the lines of "You've got a wart on your finger - let's amputate it."

Just make sure everyone agrees on everyone's position before the start of the draft. Any DL's that play LB would then be appropriately valued and picked at appropriate locations. Problem solved.

The real problem lies in services (yahoo, MFL, etc...) which change a players position mid-season. Having a rule in your league to prevent that from happening would be required too. Since you can't make appropriate player valuations when their positions can change. It is like taking a TE which then gets listed as a WR or vis versa. Totally changes their values just the same.

So as long as everyone knows what positions each player is at before the draft and they are set in stone for the entire season, you should be all set.

Why are hybrids a "problem" again?
They negatively impact the slow-to-adapt FF player's ability to compete in an ever-changing FF marketplace, where new players are entering the market with new technologies that are more cutting edge, and the push to IDP is just the latest of these.I may have confused what hybrids we're discussing, though.

I think the problem he's talking about is when a player is listed under one position but actually plays another. To me it's only really a problem if the site you are using changes their classification mid-stream. For instance, if you are in a league that rewards points for special teams and MFL changes Hester from a DB to a WR... or vice versa if CHI decides the experiment didn't work just before the season begins and opt not to play him at WR at all this year... it leaves you in a lurch if you plan on starting him as one or the other. I had a situation like that last season and MFL changed a special teams players "position" not long before the season began.

:unsure:That's what we do. I'm the commish and I'll send out an email a few days before the draft with a list of the "tweeners" and what position they play. I'll usually add a line about "if there are any players you have questions about or would like to add them to the list, speak now." Once the season starts, no position can change. (If MFL changes them, I change them back.)
