The death of the TE (1 Viewer)

SuperJohn96

RPS World Champion
3rd quarter of the NE/SD game, and all TE's have combined for

86 Catches

911 Yards

7 TDs

That'd be a fantastic season for a TE, but unfortunately that's the combined numbers from 37 TEs with at least one catch today.

37 TEs with 1+ catch

Average TE today

2.3 Catches

24.6 Yards

0.2 TDs

Only reason I even noticed is I looked up top scoring TEs in my FF league for today, and 11 of the top 20 TEs are on our waiver wire, and 4 of the top 6 as well.

What's going on here? I thought we saw a rise of the TE position a few years ago, where you could close your eyes and randomly point your finger at a list of TEs and get decent production. Now? Not so much...

Don't forget that Gonzo is on a bye, Gates is playing hurt, KW II is playing hurt, Shockey is out, Scheffler is out, Tenn had a bye (though they tend to run a TEBC) & the Brears definitely run a TEBC with Clark/Olsen.

Skews the numbers.

Terrible year in general for tight ends. The top scoring TE in my league (Witten) is averaging 9 points per game.

My tight ends stink.... but I really don't know who to trade for at this point.

In an AntSports TE-mandatory PPR league, I've tried Heap, Rosario and Keller as starters the last three weeks.

Combined point total?

ZERO!

No matter which tight end I pick up off the waiver wire, I get zilch.

The Eagles defense was able to wake up even Vernon Davis. Pick the TE that plays against them. :moneybag:

Unfortunately I have Heap. What a waste. He finally plays every week but they got so used to him not being there they don't use him anymore.

I think Dallas Clark will start to get a little bit of a season going now that the WR's are more of a threat. I think he was just used to block more against the Ravens.

I did notice a very down week for TE's and a down year in general. Owen Daniels is probably the best value at this point.

The guy with Dallas Clark in my league dropped him to the WW for some reason. I took him and now I'm stuck with both Gonzo and Clark. Should I sell one of them high or interchange them week by week for good matchups?

If your question were posted in the Assistant Coach forum , given that you are "asking for advice on how you should . . . manage your team", I would say that you should . . . .

people still use T.E.'s in their fantasy league? personally i think people should abolish must start T.E. positions.

go with the WR/TE

I love me some OD. He's been very solid despite having reached the end zone all of zero times.

This was still bothering me so I looked up some numbers...

Tight End Stats from the first 6 Weeks of the season

YEAR Targ REC YARDS Y/R TD Rec%2007 1119 744 8094 10.9 61 66.5%2008 1069 669 7372 11.0 47 62.6%
Code:
- 4.5% = Targets-10.1% = Receptions- 8.9% = Yards+ 1.3% = Yards per Reception-23.0% = Touchdowns- 3.9% = Reception Percentage
So clearly there is a drop across the board in TE stats, and obviously the most glaring stat is the 23% drop in TDs.Yikes.

Anyone know where those TDs are going?

RBs? WRs? Drop in scoring?

My first thought, without looking it up, is that if one assumes that a fair number of TEs probably get a decent number of Red Zone TDs, maybe those are going to goal-line RBs?

Something to look into if I or anyone else has time.
