Crazy to me that some Devy's are going in the 3rd, looking at the guys who are there who have already proven to be young, elite players.

Looking back on this a year or two from now, Lyerla at the bottom of the 20th might be the best value of them all. Complete beast.

Just finished a 16 round Devy draft. After some trades I ended up with 33 Devys. Team Sharknado. Start 2QB 2RB 3WR 2TE 1FLEX(QB/RB/WR/TE) 1FLEX(RB/WR/TE). TE premium scoring.

Here are the results: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aph2QMe0NEl5dDR3b1c3dkFLMWh5eG9WeHdrMGZNOHc&usp=sharing
So 16 round start-up. How many rounds in subsequent years? I'm assuming not 16.

The rookie drafts are virtually useless with this kind of depth. Are you guys even having a rookie draft annually?

SMH at the terms devy, Devys, Devy's

All kinds of wrong.
SMH at SMH. Can't you type out the whole words?
Fair, but that's not the point. Why did you people settle on such a ridiculous term?

Amateurs

College players

NCAA players

Who the hell is developing these players? The fantasy owners who draft them? That is laughable (I had to write that because LMFAO would annoy you).

Developmental players, devy, Devys, Devy's. Wow.

You can create one and name it whatever you want. Maybe it will catch on. Otherwise you can stop trolling this thread.

Yes rookie drafts will be very diluted. It's 6 rounds every year. Still have a 3-round rookie draft. Very deep league.

Similar to one I'm in as well. 6 every year, but startup was only 12. The rookie is 5 rounds and by the end of the 2nd, the guys are virtually useless and just end up being roster cloggers.

Langford? I don't even think he's the best Senior Big10 RB next year.

That pick raised some eyebrows in the league chat. I've been looking at some of the devy mocks and they sort of set your expectations for where these guys are going to go, but that doesn't mean people can't surprise you when the live bullets start flying. I think that owner could've gotten Langford with the last pick in the draft, but if that's his guy and he felt like he had to get him then... .

Do I think it will work out? Probably not, but it wasn't my decision. Maybe he will laugh all the way to the bank.

I'm in the league and we've been very Rb heavy in devys due to 14 teams + minimum start 2...young good rbs are very sought after.

I might have been more shocked that Winston or Mariotta wasn't drafted since it is 6 pts for all TDs. Goes to show how devalued QBs are compared to RBs.... and I was the fool who took Funchess, since I view him as a potential difference maker (TEs get 1.25 per reception). Maybe he gets converted to a WR in the future?

I think he's a great prospect, I just would never take a QB in a devy draft in this format (just like most would never take a QB in the early/mid 1st of a rookie draft with all the other, more valuable, talent).

I'm waffling between Strong and Funchess. Just actually bumped the 2015 prospect thread to talk about Funchess. As a full-time WR his size and speed combo is tantalizing if he can develop, but I'm wondering if he really has WR speed, or if he just had great speed for a TE.

I think Strong is the safe pick and Funchess is the upside pick, but those are the two guys I've zeroed in on. Not a fan of waiting on North, who I briefly considered.

I breathed a sigh of relief for sure. I landed Tyner and Collins though along with Diggs earlier. Feel great about my turnout.

Draft over. Decided to go with Funchess. Feel pretty good about my two picks (Williams and Funchess) though I took them over safer options, I like shooting for the upside.

I think in Devy drafts you have to shoot for upside (as well as factor in your league's starting requirements and scoring). Difference makers are key.

IMHO the reason why everybody breathed a sigh of relief over the Winston pick is because even in a 14 team league, if you can only start one qb there is almost zero position scarcity. He is a safe pick. He is even trade-able to a rebuilding team during the season, which is what I did with Bridgewater last year. But everybody should have a start-able QB or two on their rosters already.

RBs will be king in Devy drafts if you have to start 2, and if you can flex, too, no contest which position has the premium. After that, it is all preference. Rarely are TEs selected, even in TE bonus leagues, since I think they are situational dependent. ASJ went last year. Funchess this year (though I think a position change will happen). WRs are nice to load up on in PPR and/or start 3+ leagues

I'm usually not one to want and wait (potentially) 2+ years because of the carry cost, but others are. I like to have a few player hit every other year... kind of an infusion of youth. Would never draft an incoming Freshman, way too many unknowns.

I enjoy Devy leagues most because of the extra dimension of strategy.... but I rarely watch college football. YMMV

Personally, I like the Winston pick and would have considered Mariotta as well. Frankly, there is so much less certainty with Devy drafts; if I am able to get a guy that has that strong of a shot of being a top 5 overall pick, I'll take that where Winston went, all day.

If you look at the ADP data from DLF, Bridgewater is already sitting at QB12. These top QBs, especially if they can add rushing value, should be great value picks in Devy's when people pass over them for what amounts to highly longshot players.

I'm in the camp that would be really reluctant to spend a top pick on a QB this year. People remember guys like Luck and Bridgewater who mostly lived up to the hype. I've seen others like Locker and Barkley really fall off. I don't know that either Winston or Mariota is such a strong prospect that he's guaranteed to end up looking like a slam dunk elite top 10 NFL pick. Even Bridgewater right now after another great season doesn't have that extra layer of mega hype to really be coveted by most teams.

I got Luck in several leagues after his rFr. season, but that was kind of a fortuitous situation since Stanford just happens to be the team I follow in college and I had some slightly insider information on him by virtue of that. In a typical year, my strategy is to draft RB/WR and acquire QBs via trade. I'd so much rather add something small to a pick and get a proven NFL success like Russell Wilson than grab a guy like Mariota and cross my fingers. It's just not worth it when the guy basically needs to become a top 5 player at his position to have significant market value in a start 1 QB league. On the other hand, any RB or WR who becomes a top 25-30 guy at his position in the league will carry nice value.

Are you talking top 5 NFL pick or top 5 FF rookie pick? I like Winston and considered him with my 1.14. Wished he wasn't playing baseball cause I like the gym rat/my life is football mentality. Considered Mariotta, too, who might be a better runner.

I am a pretty big Bridgewater fan, and would probably consider him around the 12-15 QB range in a start up. Those ADP #'s from DLF are semi-helpful, but we are now in the "tearing down" season of the draft so I think his stock is down. Don't know what/if he can add as a runner, probably not as much as Luck. But in the end, I have serious doubts he will be a difference maker in FF.

Again, with my Devy philosophy is to go for the upside (where it fits for my team)... if you like certainty, there is a modicum more with rookie drafts and devy geeks love to acquire more devy picks... so there is a market for those. Once you pick a devy player, it is better to have a one that you can trade and I think trading a devy QB is the hardest position to trade. TE is a close second.

I would agree that the QBs have a lower upside value, and that it is less likely they will end up being a Rodgers/Luck/Cam -- essentially a guy viewed as a top 30 overall dynasty asset. However, I think that there are some guys, Winston and Mariotta included, that have a much, *much*, much higher chance of being valued similarly to Kaepernick shortly into their NFL career. I view their floor well enough that they will provide greater value to your team than, what I consider, a much much smaller chance of hitting a home run.

But how much good does it really do you to have multiple Kaepernick/Ryan/Stafford type QB's on your roster? They aren't worth enough in trade to get a stud at another position back, and you're only getting a 2nd or 3rd tier guy back in trade for one of those guys if you happen to have a team in your league that's abysmal at the QB position. Unless of course you're talking 16+ team leagues. So why not just take the shot at an elite talent at the time of the devy pick, rather than sitting on the QB for a couple years and then hoping you can flip him to help you somewhere else?

Really liked his high school highlights. Probably my favorite HS player in this class so far. I think he was also the #1 WR in the national SPARQ combines, so that's nice. 44" vertical. 4.45 40. Really fast shuttle times.

On the down side, he was in the car with a couple A&M players during a recent pot bust. Not a huge deal, but not exactly starting your career on the right foot.

Just trying to fit in.

Grrrr I know, Weed is becoming a problem at A&M, now our starting DT and MLB are out against South Carolina. Then a week later a safety that had a chance to start gets kicked off for theft.

I thought you don't like small WRs?

I'm staying away from any sub 6' WR recruit, unless they've got tremendous strength and ball skills already. This 2014 HS class has some really good "big" WRs that I'd rather roll the dice on.
