I just didn't trust Dempster, sorry. I think, ideally, Zambrano was the start in game 1. I don't care about the seasons they each had, Zambrano's the ace. You put your big horse out there to start the series, I think.
Great point. Lou has really left me scratching my head in the post-season the last two years.
It was like he was rewarding Dempster for his regular season. Um, this isn't/wasn't the All-Star game...Zambrano, on the other hand, is intimidating and could've kept the pensive (they were) Dodgers down. In fact, he stepped up last night, more than just a little. Instead, they were given a hell of a lot of confidence -- just what they needed.
Great analogy. And totally agree. Apparently this makes us dumb, though.

99% positive Harden and the Cubs take game 3, but who is pitching in games 4 and 5 for the Dodgers/Cubs?
Lilly game 4, Dempster game 5. Dodgers have not announced yet as far as I know. You'd have to think you go Lowe on short rest then Billingsley in game 5 on full rest, right? I guess Kershaw is possibility for game 4 (Maddux?) but that feels risky to me.

Baseball season's almost gone

You want to throw up on your lawn

Hey Chicago what do you say.

The Cubs are gonna suck today.

They're singing...

Blow Cubs blow

Blow Cubs blow

Hey, Chicago, what do you say

The Cubs are gonna suck today.

Blow Cubs blow

Blow Cubs blow

Hey, Chicago, what do you say

The Cubs are gonna suck today.

Big Z gets hammered so he throws a fit

When the weather gets hot, Harden says, "I'll sit"

Soriano hops when he drops that ball

D Lee grounds out with a double play ball.

They're singing...

Blow Cubs blow

Blow Cubs blow

Hey, Chicago, what do you say

The Cubs are gonna suck today.

We're singing now...

Blow Cubs blow

Blow Cubs blow

Hey, Chicago, what do you say

The Cubs are gonna suck today.

Melt-down time is here again.

You can catch it all on WGN

And while you watch your teeth will grit

'cause our overpaid ballplayers don't give a ####

You're singin' now...

Blow Cubs blow

Blow Cubs blow

Hey, Chicago, what do you say

The Cubs are gonna suck today.

Everybody now...

Blow Cubs blow

Blow Cubs blow

Hey, Chicago, what do you say

The Cubs are gonna suck today.

Yeah, who was that? Clearly, a bitter Cubs fan who'd pay to hump Lou Pinella's leg.

He should go for Santo's. That way he could take it home with him.

Second-guessing Piniella's decision to start Dempster is Game 1 is just dumb, if you ask me. He was their best pitcher this year, and he had been awesome at home. How could anyone know that he would not pitch well in Game 1? Going with Zambrano is Game 2 might have been a tad questionable (although he pitched well; the errors just killed him), but Dempster in Game 1 was the right choice.
:yes:The guy was 14-3 with an ERA under 3.00 at Wrigley his year and it was his 5th day. No brainer.
Dempster had a ton of walks...but he was still one pitch away from turning the game over to the bullpen with a 2 run lead....he made a great 0-2 pitch to Looney...that Looney barely fouled off and if Soto hangs on to the ball its a strikeout and they were out of the inning....then he made a horrible next pitch that Looney put into the centerfield seats....
It's Loney. One o.

So which Kuroda shows up tonight? And to a lesser extent, will Harden be at 95 or 90? How's the mood in LA? Do fans think this series is over? Talking World Series? Inquiring minds want to know.

I'm a lot less worried about Kuroda knowing they've got Maddox behind him in the pen early if they need him. Kuroda's experienced and I think you'll see a good game out of him.

Any Dodger fans talking World Series are nuts at this point. I haven't seen or heard much of that to this point. I think Kuroda will be fine - he seems to match up well with the Cubs. One unusual note is that it is raining is SoCal (or expected to later, depending on where you live), so it will be interesting to see how much that impacts play.

The decent Kuroda will show up...not the 11k complete game shut out Kuroda. It will be the Harden of the last month not the first month with the Cubs. GREAT...YES...its over today.YES....but still cautiously optimistic. Dodgers/Red Sox...Manny back in Fenway winning a ring for his new team...I cant freakin wait!P.S...none of real dodger fans are completely suprised. Ya, up 2-0 is a little surprising, but wasnt out of the realm of possibility. Dempster pitched like the fantasy waiver guy we have all come to avoid over the years...Lowe pitched like he had the past month. Billingsly has better numbers than Zambrano and showed why he is one of the best young pitchers in the league.

You're a great poster, but that's just not true. I assume it's borne from superstition. Fair enough...The Dodgers absolutely can not only go, but win, the World Series this year. They are the hottest team in baseball, have excellent pitching, and I don't see some team out there that can't be beat. The Phillies? Bring 'em on.And yes, I know this series isn't over yet, I'm just addressing the comment. So yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and say Dodgers/Rays.

Yea, your right. Demster, the best home pitcher in the league, pitched his worst game of the year, and Billingsly was the sole beneficiary of a Cub team that forgot how to field the ball.Dodger fans aren't' surprised? Well, Cub fans sure are. Mark my words, this Dodger team really isn't all that good.

I can't speak for the Dempster comment. They guy had a great year and had a bad game on Wednesday. Dodgers got a break there.Dodger fans really aren't surprised. People outside of Southern California look at the Dodgers as a .500 team that struggled and hasn't done a lot all season. People following the team know that the team playing now is a different team. They have seen it over the last 2 months. This is a very dangerous team. Dodger fans are not surprised because they already knew this.Billingsley was hardly "the beneficiary" of the Cubs poor defense. Guy pitched 6 2/3 and gave up 1 run and 5 hits. Cubs couldn't do anything against him. Had nothing to do with the Cubs inadequacy on the defensive side. Dodgers just outplayed them on both sides of the game.

Billingsley was good, no doubt. I also think the Cubs would not have beaten many AAA teams in games 1 and 2. Unfortunately if the series is closed out tonight I don't think many Cubs fans will give the Dodgers their due, which would be unfortunate. While it is easy to say both games were handed to LA, look at how the Angels dug in and came back last night. If the Dodgers don't keep adding on the Cubs might have had a chance. That's the sign of a good team, imo. LA has impressed me so far.

With that said, I think going across the country might have been the best thing for the Cubs. Kemp gave the Cubs some bulletin board material (see you next year to the clubhouse guy), and it sounds like Lou is finally getting it (i.e. sounds ticked). Look for Dempster to show up in relief tonight or tomorrow and Zambrano to pitch Game 5. (Yes, I realize I am likely delusional - but that's what being a Cub fan is all about.)

Looking forward to it!

Bulletin board material doesn't do anything in baseball...and especially not in the playoffs. Everybody is giving their best already, and it's not like exerting your will is going to take the other guys down.

Now in football, that's a different story. Basically, it doesn't come into play much in non-contact sports. If it does, you were giving it your all to begin with...

But either way, it's not over. Good luck tonight GW4563!

:banned:

Well lets see here, Chicago will try to avoid a ninth straight postseason loss and a second consecutive division series sweep tonight.

I would say it's time to jump on the Dodger bandwagon

Dempsters career average...4.55 era...1.49 whip....261 BAADempster this year2.96 era...1.21 whip....227 BAAThis year was an anomally....Game 1 was the norm. Over time, the norm wins out. He had a great year, but anyone who knows baseball knows this year was a fluke year for him.

Wow, this is just disgraceful.

As a lifelong Cubs fan, I knew they didn't have a chance to win this series...but I thought they'd at least win a game.

Been a long, long time since there was this much excitement being a Dodger fan. Dodgers looking great and Cubs looking like they can't handle postseason pressure.

Never been so pissed watching a Cub game, but heck, lets go down fighting!!!!! We need a big hit!!!!

Lets go Cubbies, Lets go.....

Lets go Cubbies, Lets go.....

Lets go Cubbies, Lets go.....

Hold on just a minute. Are you telling me that Cubs fans are surprised that their team is gagging in the first round? Interesting.
Mark my words, this Dodger team really isn't all that good.
When you take what they are doing to your Cubs into consideration, it doesn't say much for your team, does it? :goodposting:

Cubs sweep. This is a mismatch.
This is a bad match-up for the Cubs.
How so?
Dodgers have the best pitching staff in the NL statistically and they play in a pitcher friendly park. They also have just enough hitting and Manny Ramirez. Cubs would have beat the Mets in 3 and the Phillies in 4, I just don't like this match-up for them at all. I think the Dodgers will win three games 3-1 or 2-1.
Well, the Cubs are right behind the Dodgers in terms of pitching (in a more hitter friendly park) and far superior hitting-wise. The Cubs scored almost a run higher per game than the Dodgers this year. That is huge. If the Dodgers only score 3 runs a game they get swept. Period.
Cubs scored 6 runs in the series, Dodgers scored 3 tonight and won. Color me unsurprised.

The playoffs are always great....but when your team is in it and playing well....its the greatest thing ever...especially since its been 20 years since they have won a series!

The Angels in 2002 were cool...especially considering they beat the Yankees and the Giants...but this is awsome!

Congrats to the Dodgers and their fans.

Coletti's put together one hell of a team that's gelling at the right time. Wouldn't be one bit surprised if this team won it all.

The funny thing is that Coletti was most likely fired if LA didn't win the NL West.eta: Coletti and McCourt better pay Manny whatever the #### he wants.

Hate New York City

It's cold and it's damp

And all the people dressed like monkeys

Let's leave Chicago to the Eskimos

That town's a little bit too rugged

For you and me you bad girl

Rollin' down the Imperial Highway

With a big nasty redhead at my side

Santa Ana winds blowin' hot from the north

And we as born to ride

Roll down the window put down the top

Crank up the Beach Boys baby

Don't let the music stop

We're gonna ride it till we just can't ride it no more

>From the South Bay to the Valley

>From the West Side to the East Side

Everybody's very happy

'Cause the sun is shining all the time

Looks like another perfect day

I love L.A. (We love it)

I love L.A. (We love it)

Look at that mountain

Look at those trees

Look at that bum over there, man

He's down on his knees

Look at these women

There ain't nothin' like 'em nowhere

Century Boulevard (We love it)

Victory Boulevard (We love it)

Santa Monica Boulevard (We love it)

Sixth Street (We love it, we love it)

I love L.A.

I love L.A.

(We love it)
