The end of Parity (1 Viewer)

It looks like bad NFL teams are getting worse while good teams are getting better. With a few exceptions (e.g., Titans) there seems to be little upside to 0-3 teams and some bad 1-2 teams. Fantasy lineup decisions might be easier in the weeks ahead as we're governed more an more by matchups. It wasn't always this way, was it?

All the bad teams have bad QB play. There's no quick fix, but it makes the biggest difference. All the really stinky teams are or should be wondering why they didn't draft Sanchez.

Bengals -- would be 3-0 except for Stokley's crazy tipped-ball TD. 3 games in it's tough to assume much about parity yet.

Ummm...TN is 0-3, Carolina is 0-2 and possibly 0-3 after tonight...both made the playoffs last year.

Denver is 3-0, Bengals are 2-1, Pitt is 1-2, San Fran is 2-1, Ariz is 1-2 (the NFC rep to the SB last year).

Seems like the parity is still there through week 3.

I thought this thread would be about the possible end of revenue sharing. If the salary cap ever goes and the NFL becomes like MLB, NFL football as we know it is over.

I don't think it's the end of parity -especially when you have teams like Cinci beating Green Bay and Pittsburgh in successive weeks, and Denver starting 3-0 after being written off by most in the preseason. But you are right there are some really bad teams this year.

Really bad:

AFC: Cleveland, KC, Oakland

NFC: Tampa, St. Louis

Pretty bad:

AFC: Miami, Buffalo?

NFC: Detroit, Washington

Tennessee has a rough schedule - partly the result of last year's success and also they're in a good division. But they're not a bad team. All other teams can make a case they have playoff potential. As for the 3-0 teams, some look very good, but most wins have come against bad teams.

Last years superbowl teams are a combined 2-4.

Last years best record in the league 0-3. 2nd best team in NFC will likely be 0-3 as well.

Meanwhile, several mediocre teams from last year such as Jets, Broncos, Saints and 49ers are all winning games. As are the previously putrid bengals. There will be plenty of turnover in the playoffs.

Jets, Broncos, Saints and 49ers - all new coaches within the last year (coordinator or head coach), focusing on defense. Which ones can keep it going all year?

I don't know why I keep agreeing with you, but this is correct. Just using the Bears as an example - they beat Pittsburgh (the defending NFL champs) last week, then struggle against an injury-riddled Seahawk team. Parity seems to be going strong in the NFL - maybe someone should write a parody about it.

Really? I was just thinking that there may be TOO much parity. Not as much this past weekend but for weeks 1 and 2, it seemed every game was down to the last drive.

I think the league is exactly where they want to be on the parity spectrum.
