The Falcons running game (1 Viewer)

In a keeper league I tabbed Jerious Norwood as one of my keepers. During our league's draft this fall, Dunn was sitting right there in the 10th round, so I thought depth might be a good idea. Everyone knows how the ATL running game is right now, and thankfully I kept W. Parker and drafted M. Lynch, which helped me greatly over the past couple of weeks. But week 6 byes are staring me in the face.

Last evening I was doing some research, trying to find nuggets of info to evaluate the value of Norwood/Dunn going forward for trading and FA roster moves. That's when I realized I should have done more research on Petrino.

Early in Sept., the Falcons were expected to keep rookie Jason Snelling, however, he was cut to make room for Artose Pinner after he was released by the Vikes. I've never owned Pinner, never wanted to own Pinner, and never thought much about him as I didn't like the Lions and didn't need him as a handcuff in Minnesota's running game. However, he seems more in the mold of Petrino's last high performing RB: Michael Bush...at least size wise: M. Bush: 6-1, 245.

Dunn: 5-9, 187

Norwood: 5-11, 202

Pinner: 5-10, 232

Now, Pinner has barely even seen the playing field on game days with only 1 carry for 0 yards on a 3rd and 1 in JAC. However, he spent the entire preseason with MIN and has been with the Falcons for just over 3 weeks.

ATL is now going with a zone blocking scheme, and previously their rushing threat (with Vick) was built on speed. While I try and make to trade away either Dunn or Norwood or both, I plan to keep my eye on Pinner. I am not saying get Pinner now, I am just saying he might be one to watch for later in the season.

If the Falcons passing game continues to improve, the running game should improve as well. It will be interesting to watch.

Just for your information, Atlanta has been running a zone blocking scheme for the last three years under Alex Gibbs. This year they are moving towards a more traditional north/south power blocking scheme under Petrino. IMO Pinner will only be a factor this year if both Dunn and Norwood are injured. Also at this point in the time the line has not adjusted well and is getting blown up at the line of scrimmage on run plays so I wouldn't watch the situation too closely because none of the backs in Atlanta are worth starting.

:goodposting: yup, Atl used to run zone blocking, they have gone to a traditional power scheme. Alex Gibbs was let go a while back.

Bad on my part, should have been "from" instead of "with". I started writing about the power game, instead rewrote about previous speed. I read the press conference write ups from the AJConst. and several times Pterino has been asked this very question, "Is the change in blocking affecting protection and rushing?"Yes, I realize ATL rushing is going to suck, but eventually, I think Pinner might be one to watch later in the season. Still hoping the pass game helps rushing, enough to present some value for Dunn/Norwood.

I just don't see Dunn/Norwood working, which is my bad in rostering them in the first place.

Pinner with 49 rushing yards today.

I can't see the game so I'm wondering if anyone else has a comment. Did he look ok? Most people are down on him but 49 yards in one half against Tenn isn't too shabby.

Filler on a bye week? Maybe he finally gets it?

Any comments appreciated.

It was one carry on a fake punt. I've watched all the falcons games this year and haven't seen much of Pinner yet.
