THE FBG Fashion Thread :style: (1 Viewer)

I need some advice. How short is too short for a pair of pants/jeans? When are they considered 'highwater'?My favorite jeans are like 1 inch too short for my liking. When I am standing, the bottom of the pant leg rests perfectly on the top of my shoe. But when I sit down, it come up an inch or two. I don't think there is any way to lengthen them. But they fit perfectly, have a good medium/dark wash and are just worn in enough to be real comfortable. Can I still wear them, or do I need to admit they are too short?
If you think they may be too short, than they probably are.Dress pants are usually able to be lengthened by about 1" since they normally have extra fabric folded in at the cuff. But, jeans aren't really able to lengthen. For length (especially in jeans), you shouldn't be looking at the pant hitting the top/front of your shoe....the true barometer is looking at where they hit at the back/heel of your shoe. Proper length hits just above (or right on) where your back heel sole starts. Jeans that are too short are a pretty bad look.

Let's talk flip flops. I live in them during the summer.

Olukai? Rainbow? Sanuk? Other?
Olukai makes good ####, but find the right one for you. Too spendy not to...Rainbow. Locals only, haha. Seriously, old school classics, but for me, too many better flip flops out there nowadays and I'm old and much prefer that comfort. Zero arch support and slippery leather surface that you slide around on so there is just no support. But if you're just Q'n or hanging around the pool and stuff, fine. If you're wearing them day-to-day, there's way better.

Sanuk. Pass.

Reef. Love reefs actually. Nice arch and grippy footbed that stays that way even with water or sweat or humidity. They last, not like Rainbows, but long enough. I've actually sent them back before just because I thought they should've lasted longer (this was years, haha) and they sent me a new pair. Stay away from the leather ones for reasons mentioned already - might as well go Rainbow anyway, if that's what you want. Stick with their basic stuff. I'm wearing the Fanning now, btw.

Stay away from the big surf co's like Billabong, Hurley, etc. They don't specialize in flip flops like Reef or Olukai. Oh, and especially Quicksilver, because everything they do/use is cheap, for real.

Hey, it is just a flip flop after all, so it's not like Billabong, who makes quality ####, will end up this big disappointment, but you did ask for a critique.

Yeah, agree on all of that. I keep Reefs around the house because they're durable, but also like to have a pair to step things up a bit. Never owned Olukai, but like their looks. Funny you mention the slip factor on Rainbows - this is my main problem. My feet sweat something fierce, and the slippage has always been a problem. That's a great thing about Reefs. the sole material doesn't seem to suffer from that.I think I'm going Olukais. Probably these.

Those are cool -jb-, I'd just be a little worried about slippage with the leather, although I did just go to zappos to skim the reviews (a LOT of them) and didn't find one with that issue. And the reviews were great. The other thing is that they are not gonna be good around water, obviously.

Yep. Always take a pair of reefs with me for water.

I wear them A LOT. I've never spent that much on flip flops, but I have spent $50 for a pair of reefs that barely last me a year. If I spend $100 and they last me 2 years, I've broken even and have much nicer looking pair in the process.

So...yeah. $100.

back to swim trunks. outside of the two links below, i'm struggling to find any non-board shorts that don't look ghei.any recommendations?http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004ISKR44/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004FTMX2U/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER
I like the latter

apparently nice suits with ratty retro tennis shoes is cool in NYC now?

saw 4 guys at a wedding this weekend sporting that look. they did not appear to be connected to each other in any way.

####in A, it's gone, just got off the phone with Christies. They were laughing because it sold in 2008. Sucker went for a grand is all. I can't believe that, it was actually attainable. A James Brown horse suit would have been epic. :lmao:
:goodposting:

now I want one for my derby party
Oh it's a must at this point. We have time. Might have to make this mission its own thread if none of the homos in here can find us one.
Damn.Gave up on this thread long ago and now wish I hadn't. One of my BFs from college is a VP at Christie's, and is their auctioneer of choice for certain big auctions. She just posted on FB yesterday that she's headed to Hong Kong, so I'm not sure I can get anything from here in the next couple of weeks... if at all. I'll send her an email, regardless.

Golf Fashion- Would any of you wear this on the coursehttp://store.sligowear.com/Sligo_golf_shirt_Gator_White_Vegas_Spring_2011_p/11-051.htm?1=1&CartID=1With black pants, and what shoes black/white, all black?
Looks like a chick shirt to me. All pink would be better. The ***hsia and white combo is not so good IMO.

No, and you shouldn't either

Just as in life, so applies to golf. What is great about 'classic' is that it doesn't go out of style.

Take a look at what younger Hogan and Palmer did, and do more of that, and less 'weird looking logos'

Edit to add a couple examples

Palmer

Hogan

I've seen some push back on wearing pleated pants. I get it if you're real short or tubby, but otherwise I don't. I think they look better than flat fronts in most cases. Educate me and TIA.

If you have :style: than you do not wear pleated pants. That's all the education you should need on this topic.

I've been seeing designers bringing back pleats for a couple years now- flat fronts have been the style choice for a long while (in terms of fashion) and is due to (and already has for the fashion forward) run it's course. That said- the pleats are for the style vanguards out there right now, not guys like us. It will take a while for pleats to become the norm again, so it's highly safe to stick with the flats.*and I'm not talking about Dockers type of pleated pants here- more of the designer collection type of thing.

I'm with floppo. I think pleats are starting to make a comeback if you're wearing a well tailored suit.
