THE FBG Fashion Thread :style: (2 Viewers)

I don't love the pattern on the inside of the cuffs, but sometimes it can look OK. I wouldn't rule it out permanently like I would with solid polo shirts.

Looking for some advice on button down shirts to wear with jeans, for going out yet somewhat casual. Weekend date night dinners, barhopping, etc. Have been going untucked in the past but not sure what's "in" nowadays. Hoing to pick up a few before flying to Vegas on Saturday, any help appreciated.

Also, struggling to find shirts / sweaters for casual day to day wear in the fall / winter. Cycling through the few that I have but need to add a bunch more to the queue, suggestions?

As always, TIA.

Oh btw, picked up a few Brooks Brothers shirts at a black friday sale (first time I've gone) for $30 a pop, nice shirts.
I may be in the minority but I am a fan of English Laundry shirts..
Yuck. I prefer Ben Sherman.
English Laundry are those shirts that are always on sale at discount Neimans and Saks stores? They're like a business man's Ed Hardy :style:
Yes some of them can get out of hand but the shirts that they scale back on are sharp. They are also made very well and have a nice fit. Here
Oof. Any shirt that has pattern on the inside of the cuffs...run, run away fast!English Laundry, 7 Diamonds, basically all the random shirts you buy at The Buckle in the mall are not :style:
Disagree.
:notebook: :yucky:
I like them...Most of the time the pattern on the cuff are on solids shirts so they just add a hint pattern to break up the plainness.

I don't like it but is your point that it's a "fat guy" style?

Been seeing lots of older guys wearing skinny jeans......what gives?

Not a good look if you ask me.

Help a style challenged FBG out (I used to wear Jerseys with jorts).

I need a new coat. Not sure if it matters but I'm 43 and 5'11" 220. I want something that I can wear all the time.

Get some nice chukkas from Clarks
:goodposting:
I never knew what these were called. I was looking for some sort of bootish shoe.
Which color should I get? Beeswax or dark brown? I wish there was something in between. The dark brown is a bit reddish to me.
If you prefer something in the middle go beeswax. Rub some leather protector lotion on them which will automatically darken a shade. Then as you wear them they should naturally darken a bit more through scuffing, water, etc
I went with the lighter shoe, and am wearing them today for casual Friday. They are actually darker in real life so that's good. Now, my question for fellow chukka wearers: Is there a way to make them more comfortable against he back of the heel? Particularly the area between the heel and the lower calf. With every step and flex of the ankle, the back of the boot kind of scrapes up against the lower calf. I'm wearing athletic socks, but I think it'll get annoying after walking more than a few blocks.

Do you have them tied too tight? I personally dont even tie the laces on my chukka boots that I have....keep it casual my friend.

I have those too. They should break-in some. Also, go to Zappo's, find the shoe (easy), and read through all the reviews. Eventually, you'll probly read about your same problem and you should discover some solutions for it.

Looking at picking up some Chukkas soon. With the MN winter arriving, would these be a good bet? Anyone have any experience with Clarks holding up through the winter? Would probably be my everyday shoe/boot.

Suede wont be friendly with snow and moisture. Those are good boots, but get the leather versions. Believe there were some links in the recent couple of pages of this thread.

What's an opinion on these http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/aldo-eldringhoff-boot/3188151 boots with a pair of dark jeans for a casual look? They are on sale at the local Aldo for like $70, they are nubuck I think which is little annoying but not a deal breaker. They have a little military look to them which I am not a huge fan of but I don't think it is too much like a combat boot or anything.

I already have a pair of Clark Chukkas so I don't need any suggestions towards them.

Heads-Up!!

CladMen.com is going out of business. Everything is an extra 25% off while sizes last. That is in addition to any regular sale going on.

I just purchased a $90 John Varvatos USA slim fit dress shirt for $27

There were some nice Bruno Maglis (~400 retail) going for ~115. Barely missed out on those.

What type of wallets are the style guys rocking? Please no louis v, coach, crap.
:style: don't do wallets in the back pocket. They do money clips in the front pocket. We also only carry $20 bills or greater.http://cdn.taylorgifts.com/images/products/p40827_500.jpg

I'm wearing a plain gray Hanes pocket t-shirt, a Purdue hoodie, black sweatpants, Nike running shoes and white socks from Wal-Mart.

It's the height of men's fashion here in central Indiana.

What's the latest thinking on non decorative selvedge jeans. Bought a pair of the Gap on recommendation here and like them a lot. http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=33182&vid=1&pid=889082 But reading the comments on the site looks like they've drastically changed their quality. Thoughts on something similar?

J
They have changed GB. Glad you got a pair while the quality lasted. Most of the quality selvedge denim is going to cost you. I think the cheapest I know of is APC which run about $160 or so. That's why the GAP deal was so great. http://www.mrporter.com/product/300511?cm_mmc=ProductSearch-_-US-_-Jeans-_-New

APCs are great. Unfortunately these days they are going to run you about $175. Price keeps going up.

Have similar. I try to find as slim a wallet as possible. Currently have a bifold w/ money clip in the middle.

Will be attending a Wedding in Fort Lauderdale at the end of the month on a boat. Grew up with the groom in NJ but the bride and her family are from Columbia, they both have been living in Miami for a few years.

Along with the invite, there was a note about dress for the wedding: "Linen suits, flowing sundresses, or crisp guayaberas".

I'm not buying a linen suit for this, looks like a guayabear is some type of shirt.

Suggestions for what to wear to this thing? TIA

I've noticed that the anti-square toe movement is strongest in the gay community. I'm not sure why they care what straight men wear.

OMG

so want a pair of these
now that's :style:
Allen Edmonds shoes: thumbs up or down?
Great quality. Owner of two pairs and they've held up well. I think they have some sort of warranty where you can get them resoled professionally by Allen Edmonds for a small fee. Good value b/c they last and never go out of :style: (doubt they ever made square toe)
I picked up two pairs last month and they are the first "pointy toe" shoes I really like. Very comfortable, and I've even taken wearing them with jeans out instead of my motorcycle boots. Yes, my wife thinks her caveman is growing up  Glad to hear the :style: guru likes

Like "jackets" better than "these type". Would be much better in black. Real leather is preferred as well, but at least with "jackets" you have the fabric on the waist and sleeves which makes it more informal and can get away easier with fake leather. In regards to "these types" eppaulats (sp?) on the shoulders is no longer :style:
