THE FBG Fashion Thread :style: (1 Viewer)

JCrew Urban Slim Fit seems about right for me. They're not "skinny" at all but also not too baggy. Lots of different colors.

Don't ever pay the full price though. They seem like they're always running 25% off sales. And sometimes more.

J
Nice looking pants for the price. Good to see middle murica fashion retailers step up their game with fitted shirts/pants.
Not sure what it is, but I personally hate chino pants for casual wear that just have slits for back pockets. If they had actual back pockets like jeans I'd like them a lot better.

That's not like jeans. That is a jean. ;)

Here's something I don't get.

I'm a big believer in paying for quality. But with a caveat. Paying for quality where you can tell a difference.

For me, shoes are a great example of this. Alden Horween Longwings should last me the rest of my life. And I'm old at 50. They might last my son some of his life if they'll fit him. They're expensive, but they're a good value. They haven't changed in 50 years and aren't going to change.

But I was looking today at some short sleeved shirts. Saw these.http://www.eastdane.com/actions/viewSearchResultsAction.action?query=keep+things+short&searchSuggestion=true

My question - how does Band Of Outsiders / East Dane sell enough of the short sleeve shirts at $245 to stay in business? I'm sure it's a nice shirt. But can it honestly be twice as good as what you'll find other places? Or four times as good as what you'll find in tons of places? Or ten times as good as what you'll find at lower end places like Uniqlo?

If I'm the Band of Outsiders sales rep, what do I say when my customer says they're competing against my $245 shirt with a $75 shirt from Banana Republic and a $25 shirt from Uniqlo?

Just seems wild to me. But obviously, they're successful. So more power to them. I just don't understand it.

It's a name thing. You're looked at as more important if you wear expensive clothing in some places, whether it looks any better or not. Look at some of the clothing by higher end brands. Some of it is hideous, but people are buying for the name.

Those full-strap slip on loafers are going on my wish list. Never paid anywhere near that kind of money for shoes though.

I've never heard of that "name". It's not what you wear, it's how you wear it. If you pay hundreds on nerdy old guy shirts like that, you deserve to get mocked.

But that's the thing, flapgreen. I "get" the status thing. If it was a thing where everyone knew the shirt was $245, that is important to some people. But on these, that broadcasting is not a factor. These are truly indistinguishable from the shirts costing a fraction. And my question is how they survive. Obviously, they do. I'm just interested in it.

Hard to go wrong with Alden. If it doesn't weird you out, keep an eye on Ebay too. You see some good deals there at times.

That's my point. Paying $245 for a short sleeved shirt when you could make a $75 shirt look just as good doesn't make sense. But there are obviously people who will toss $245 at a shirt

No one should wear shirts like that unless you want to look like Donald Sterling. $75? I wouldn't wear that if you paid me $75.

For you guys that are into the casual polo shirt, Uniqlo has these super cheap and the quality was surprisingly good. http://www.uniqlo.com/us/men/tops/polo.html

I got some of the Supima cotton. The fit is on the slim cut side. They material is light but doesn't feel cheap. It's not a lot more than a nice T-shirt with a collar, pocket and 3 buttons. These shirts, slim chinos, fun socks and Jack Purcells / Vans / PF Flyers are my normal spring / summer deal. I'm old so I go with the solid colors but you young bucks can pull off the patterns maybe. (and yes - untucked polo. Although since this is the :style: thread, I didn't need to tell you guys that)

Anyways, was pleasantly surprised at the quality given this low price and thought I'd pass along.

J
been looking for something like this

$700 for a freaking duffle bag? Good Lord
I don't like the price, but it's a staple for me. Money well spent, if I can get one that will last 10+ years.Like a good pair of shoes.
I guess I don't use a duffle bag any. Still seems like a ton for a bag but if you use it every day for years, I can understand it a little.
Think of it as a permanent piece of luggage. One that won't get destroyed and if it does get some wear, can be easily repaired. If you get one with a more basic/classic look, the thing could outlive you and be used by your kids.As with shoes, I'd rather buy something that lasts and can be refurbished.

With the caveat of knowing nothing about them...at first glance East Dane looks like the 'best' segmentation for Amazon. If so, there must be something separating these from similar looking options at Banana Republic. Fabric, piecings, weight, etc. Plus you get the promise that you won't find these at 'good' or 'better' retailers. I agree I can't imagine how they'd find success driven by brand equity.

Need some recommendations for new black tennis shoes for every day / casual wear. I'll wear with shorts and black ankle socks.

Im mildly disappointed BB. I expected something much worse/flamboyant. While I wouldn't recommend wearing them to the company picnic, those jeans work for the venue and crowd.

I'm a fan of these Adidas. Great for running errands:http://www.barneys.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-BNY-Site/default/Product-Show?pid=503387069&cgid=mens-sneakers&index=32%5B/url%5D
I'm looking for something just slightly uglier and maybe a tad more expensive, any ideas?
No worries. There are plenty of more expensive options on the Barneys site. You may also be partial to the distressed sneaker look which is all the rage in Paris: %5Burl="http://www.barneys.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-BNY-Site/default/Product-Show?pid=503356779&cgid=mens-sneakers&index=3

What casual t shirts are best for wearing outdoors during the summer? TIA.
If you're not harvesting a bearskin rug on your chest, go with a simple solid colored v-neck. Target has some decent ones for $10 or so. (Mossimo brand, athletic cut)
