For suits, Gilt man is awesome.

I picked up two Hilfiger suits off there last week at about $200-$250 a pop. They fit pretty good off the rack, but my tailor worked some magic with the pants and now they are arguably my best fitting, favorite suits. And yet the cheapest?

I'm a Gilt convert.
didn't I rec Gilt to you? I know I got offdee hooked....they are killing the designer boutiques across the states...no reason to spend retail prices for quality product. Great return policy as well. There was a Hickey suit I almost pulled the trigger on today. I can get 2 suits there for about $1000 that will last a lifetime. No reason to go cheap (Mens Warehouse, JOS) when you can get this quality for just a little more. If anyone needs a link, use this and I'll get a $25 account credit. Happy shopping: http://www.gilt.com/invite/drussell75

My wife got me on it. She's been there a while. The iPhone app makes it dangerously easy to track and buy in one click.

Tip, don't get Express...

You should consider a custom tailored shirt... I have ordered from two companies

http://www.deoveritas.com/

and

http://biasedcut.com/offers/

As you can see, both have promos right now. Cost will be comparable to Brooks Brothers, but you get a nicer shirt in my opinion, and it is custom fit. If I had to choose one only I like my Deo Veritas slightly more.
Wow, thanks a lot Wilked for the http://www.deoveritas.com/ link. That looks great.

Even in the slim cut from Brooks Brothers, they figure a 17 1/2 - 35 guy has a 50 inch waist I think. I'll give this a shot.

Any likes / dislikes with them to know about?

J
Joe > BB now has "Extra Slim Fit." If you thought the slim fit weren't snug enough, these might be perfect for you. I highly recommend.
Yeah, I was glad to see that. But they don't have anything in 17 1/2 neck. :blackdot:

J
HEY LOOK AT ME IM TOO BUFF FOR THE REGULAR CLOTHES YOU TUBBIES WEAR!!Freakin Joe. :hot:

Joe, one thing that is really cool about them is they offer a sewn collar (as opposed to fused). This is a great upgrade and should be a no brainer

Just signed up. Some of the retail prices are funny. $175 for a cotton short sleeve sweatshirt. :moneybag:

JTG,

Those are nice, but if you're gonna spend that kind of scratch, just go all out and get some Brunos. My wife probably spent 7 bills on these for me for Christmas, but they're beautiful shoes. I love the color, the leather is awesome, the burnished toe is nice, and I love the classic wingtip with the slightly elongated, modern style. Two giant Otis thumbs up.
:goodposting: still haven't pull the trigger. Have another trial in March so I need to make sure the :style: is in order

When you buy a suit, I'm assuming you take it to the tailor, right? Aren't most tailors tied in somehow with a place that sells new suits? If so, aren't they a little put off by the discount gilt suit tailoring? Or do they not really care?

J

Post #6 of your thread GB. That's all I got for walking shoe advice.I just picked up these for working out and am a big fan, but I'm an elliptical kind of guy.

http://counterkicks.com/wp-content/uploads...ck-silver-1.jpg
Thanks GB. I didn't mean those for walking though. My wife suggests I wear those with jeans when we go out. I currently wear these well, pretty much everywhere when I'm not working. The black guys at Goodwill thought they were, and I quote, "fresh".

depends where you live but in NYC and Houston, I have good independent tailors I can trust. If not, i just pay the rape charge at Neimans and know I'm getting good service. If the salesperson says something about buying the suit there, just claim you're a regular customer, got this as a gift and wanted a good tailor to work on this masterpiece. You can throw in some extra schtick about Neimans doing a great job on your Brionis. They won't know or care b/c you looked like a baller (Armani type suit), are paying a stiff fee to get your suit tailored there 2-3x and are a 4 digit FBG.

you're dealing with hi :style: here so there are going to some prices that jump out on you. Best to wait for brands your know or are familiar with. I normally buy shoes, shirts and belts there although I did get 2 suits. They have some amazing sales. $1500-2000 suits for under $500. great ties as well. be patient.

Supposedly this model was really hard to find because it isn't typically sold in the US? This is the only pair she could find in my size. :lmao: Just do some Bruno Magli Googling -- they have tons of sweet wingtips...

I found a local tailor. He doesn't care. I brought in the two suits I got off Gilt as well as a bunch of older suits that didn't fit me quite right. For 100 bucks he did it all, and they all came out great.

Speaking of which...how do you find a good tailor?
I just used Yelp :lmao: Found a guy a couple blocks from my apartment who doe tailoring, custom clothing, etc. He wasn't super expensive either -- no more so than at Men's Wearhouse or anywhere else -- but did a much better job I thought.

Calvin Klein shoes on Gilt man tomorrow (Saturday) at noon up to 80% off.
Otis, these on sale at Gilt today for $530 (regular price $1,065)

Esquivel Vanas Wingtip Boots

I would kick your ### on principle for wearing these.
 that might be considered a hate crime
Not sure. Since I would be supporting the gay community in doing so. A gay friend of mine from high school even maintains a blog where he takes pictures of poor misguided saps who mismatch shoe/suit colors.Matching those hideous shoes with a navy suit would put you front page.

Or there is the option to get a classic, well fitting shirt that will still be on your hangar in 5 years.

Express is cheap crap. Once you experience a well fitting, well made shirt you could never go back in my opinion
I'd tend to agree with this. While I've never tried Express, I know they're the same company called Structure that go rebranded b/c they were teh suck. I remember going to a Structure store back in high school and thinking it had to be the worst store known to man. Moderately priced clothing made on the cheap. You're better off with Merona in Target. Easily the best made 'cheap' clothing brand.
Jeezus, this rockhead thought Structure was nice fancyboy clothes. :goodposting:
