THE FBG Fashion Thread :style: (1 Viewer)

Attention Obey, Calvin Klein, and Macy's: I am an avid fan of your clothing, and I wear it all the time. You can mail my cease and desist bribes to me at your earliest convenience.

Buttoned collar...yes or no.

Any tall stores recommended? I'm having a hard time finding shirts (button up and dress) that fit without breaking the bank. I've lost 30 pounds, so a straight 18-18 1/2 neck with 38 arm length is too big in the waist/chest.

Yes on the buttoned collar. It's a little more preppy but that look is :style: now. Really a matter of taste but both options look good (as long as you have collar stays on the nonbutton option). Can't help you on the tall store option. With measurements like that, seems like a custom built shirt is the way to go.

I'm afraid of that. Does anybody have a link to compare the fit of different brands? I thought I remember seeing one, but I can't find it.

Have we discussed the best brands of undershirts? My pants sit a little below the waist, so I have issues with my undershirt riding up if it is not long enough. Going to switch to V-necks and looking for something that is a little longer or at least holds its lenght after a few washes.

I've needed some new suits for a while and just saw that Joseph A Bank is having a 70% off sale. Anyone purchased from there?I don't wear suits that often, so these don't have the be the best quality ever. Is classic solid black or grey 2 button coat with flat front pants still in :style:?
I don't know why, but the Joseph Banks radio commercials really make me want to buy a suit.

Good Topic. And what you describe is very tough to find...I'm a taller guy at 6'1" and it's nearly impossible to find a Vneck that wont ride up.I found some longer shirts at Nordstroms, but they were about three times the cost of your typical Target/Macys three pack.

So are you supposed to wear an under shirt with dress shirts or even polos?
Not with polos...definitely with dress shirts in most professional environments at the management level and above. When working in warmer climates like Houston or Phoenix I would ditch the undershirt in the summer, it's just too hot.

The best look are the low v neck shirts that protect the button up but don't show any white from the t.

Yeah, the white showing looks awful. I live on Oklahoma, so during the summer it is just too hot.Being a tall guy, 6'5", I've found that these work well:http://www.dillards.com/product/Roundtree-Yorke-Big-Tall-3Pack-VNeck-TShirts_301_-1_301_502976977?splashlink=header_mens

I need some casual shoes to wear with jeans.

I'm turning 32 in 2 months and it's time to leave the skate shoes and Chucks et al in the closet.

I was considering some casual brown oxfords. Maybe Dr. Martens or these?

I'm looking at some brogues that may fit the bill for you:http://www.zappos.com/sebago-brattle-british-tan?zlfid=111&recoName=zap_pdp_sub (the dark brown not the British tan that displays first).

Don't know about the brand but they're cheaper than the Florsheim Veblem that I've been coveting.

I tend to lean more towards a smaller boot with jeans than an actual shoe. Examples:http://www.zappos.com/timberland-earthkeepers-city-chukka-burnished-black-leather ..... But the brown instead of black ....http://www.zappos.com/sperry-top-sider-boat-oxford-desert-boot-dark-brownhttp://www.zappos.com/sperry-top-sider-a-o-chukka-relaxed-leather-dark-tan
Those Timberlands are slick.

I don't really follow what's 'cool' or whatever. Normally what I like becomes cool in a few years. With sweaters and coats, I tend to stick with classics but with quality tailoring and material. I also like subtle details that make it stand out (stuff like Paul Smith does). Normally, I just browse online and buy what I think looks good. Big fan of bombers. Stuff like this: http://www.mrporter.com/product/169986

This casual sweater would go great with that: http://www.barneys.com/Trimless-Sweater/501489583,default,pd.html?cgid=MENS04

I picked up a peacoat 2 weeks ago. The extra knit layer is pretty slick.

Late to this thread so don't know if this site was mentioned but I have been getting a lot of stuff from Nextdirect.com. I am slim build and most clothes over here are too boxy. Lot of nice stuff and it is free shipping from England. Prices aren't bad either.

Get some nice chukkas from Clarks
:goodposting:
I never knew what these were called. I was looking for some sort of bootish shoe.
Which color should I get? Beeswax or dark brown? I wish there was something in between. The dark brown is a bit reddish to me.
If you prefer something in the middle go beeswax. Rub some leather protector lotion on them which will automatically darken a shade. Then as you wear them they should naturally darken a bit more through scuffing, water, etc

Is this Jos A. Banks premium brand? Never tried them. Do they have a good slim fit? I tend to only buy European dress shirts b/c most American designers make them too long and boxy (except for Varvatos). Should be some good sales coming up. Major does most of his shopping twice a year (end of Xmas and end of summer).

tyrwhitt is a not a Jos Banks housebrand at all. That said, while they are on Jermyn Street, they should not be confused with the more established and reputable shirt-maker like a turnbull & asser.
