Here's something I don't get.
I'm a big believer in paying for quality. But with a caveat. Paying for quality where you can tell a difference.
For me, shoes are a great example of this. Alden Horween Longwings should last me the rest of my life. And I'm old at 50. They might last my son some of his life if they'll fit him. They're expensive, but they're a good value. They haven't changed in 50 years and aren't going to change.
But I was looking today at some short sleeved shirts. Saw these.

My question - how does Band Of Outsiders / East Dane sell enough of the short sleeve shirts at $245 to stay in business? I'm sure it's a nice shirt. But can it honestly be twice as good as what you'll find other places? Or four times as good as what you'll find in tons of places? Or ten times as good as what you'll find at lower end places like Uniqlo?
If I'm the Band of Outsiders sales rep, what do I say when my customer says they're competing against my $245 shirt with a $75 shirt from Banana Republic and a $25 shirt from Uniqlo?
Just seems wild to me. But obviously, they're successful. So more power to them. I just don't understand it.
