The first player that comes to mind (1 Viewer)

Chase Stuart

Footballguy
Not necessarily the best players in franchise history, but for me, the face(s) of each franchise.

Patriots - Brady

Jets - Namath

Dolphins - Marino

Bills - Kelly/Thomas/Reed. Can't separate those out, although Bruce Smith was the best player on those teams. Honorable mention to O.J.

Steelers - Lambert. You could pick any of the HOFers from the '70s, but for me, he's the guy that sticks out. Hat tip to Bus and Ben from this era, along with Ward.

Ravens - Lewis. Maybe Ogden.

Bengals - Ken Anderson. Collinsworth, if only because he's stayed in the limelight. Esiason and Munoz.

Browns - Jim Brown. Otto Graham. Maybe Kosar and Byner from the '80s.

Colts - Manning. Unitas. Harrison. Berry. James. Moore.

Texans - Carr. Hopefully, for them, it's Johnson or Williams, soon.

Jaguars - Boselli. Brunell. Taylor. Jimmy Smith was the best of the bunch.

Titans - McNair. George.

Oilers - Moon.

Broncos - Elway. TD. Hat tip to Gradishar and the Orange Crush.

Chargers - Tomlinson. Fouts. Alworth. Winslow.

Chiefs - Dawson. Gonzalez.

Raiders - No player springs to mind. Shell/Upshaw/Otto. Lamonica and Stabler. Casper and Biletnikoff and Branch. Marcus Allen and Bo Jackson. Tim Brown and Rich Gannon. Lester Hayes and Hendricks and Tatum. There isn't a person more associated with a franchise than Al Davis and the Raiders. He's got his fingertips on every inch of Raiders history, and there's no player that identifies the franchise because of him.

Cowboys - Aikman/Emmitt/Irvin. Staubach.

Redskins - Darrell Green. Jurgensen. Bobby Mitchell and Charley Taylor. Sammy Baugh.

Eagles - White. Jerome (hat tip to Woodrow). Cunningham and McNabb. Bednarik.

Giants - LT.

Packers - Favre. Starr.

Vikings - Tarkenton. Page. Eller. Moss and Carter.

Bears - Payton. Singletary. Urlacher. Butkus. Luckman.

Lions - Barry.

Bucs - Selmon. Brooks/Lynch/Sapp.

Saints - Deuce and Ricky. Manning. The Dome Patrol.

Panthers - Peppers. Delhomme. Steve Smith. Beuerlein and Walls. Kasay.

Falcons - Jamal Anderson. Chandler. Vick.

49ers - Montana/Rice/Young

Seahawks - Largent. Watters/Alexander/Jones/Hutchinson

Cardinals - Warner/Boldin/Fitz. Jim Hart and Otis Anderson.

Rams - Warner/Bruce/Holt/Faulk. Gabriel and NVB. Youngblood and Jones and Olsen. Hirsch and Fears.

Just a few for me:

Colt's it's Bert Jones / Edge

Rams - Jack Youngblood and V Ferigamo (sp?)

Giants - Simms

49ers - Roger Craig / R Lott / Keena Turner (for some reason)

Seahawks - Largent

Bills - Thurman Thomas

Cards - Tom Tupa (playing the role of Punter)

Raiders - Marcus / Howie

Pats - Tatupu / John Hannah (sp?)

Jets - Klecko

Steelers - Franco / Webster

Surprised not to see Riggins on this list. He was a far higher profile player than Darrell Green or Charley Taylor or Bobby Mitchell given his personality. Jurgenson and Baugh are good choices but wouldn't occur to most people younger than 50 years of age.

Almost name-for-name for me as well. Some differences: Falcons--BartkowskiSeahawks--Steve LrgentPackers--FavreRaiders--Lester hayes. Al loves his coernbacks, and Hayes also fit the Raiders mold as a free spirit. H was quite a character. He thought he was a Jedi knight for a while there.Colts--ManningSteelers--Lambert

As a Jets fan, this breaks my heart...but the reality is that is what the image is...

... face(s) of each franchise.

Steelers--Lambert
AKA Dracula
Lambert6.jpg
A grade school teacher of mine went to Kent State with him.

Lambert held him out of a six story window.

By his forearm.

He hated Lambert, so do I.

Do many people associate one player/coach with multiple franchises?

I was born in the early 80s and grew up being a huge Montana fan, so he's the 1st player that comes to mind for the Niners and the Chiefs.

Maybe this really only happens to people who grew up in the free agent era?

A guy like Norm Van Brocklin will be fondly remembered by Rams and Eagles fans. Off the top of my head, he's the best pre-merger player to have a lot of success for two teams.

Dutch is remembered in Atlanta when he became the face of the franchise after succeeding Norm Hecker as head coach. I best remember fiery Norm when he challenged some the sports writers in an interview room to have a go at it with him and he said " start stacking up the chairs" (make more room) "I will whip any of you" after he had enough of some of the scribes barbs..

Raiders - No player springs to mind. Shell/Upshaw/Otto. Lamonica and Stabler. Casper and Biletnikoff and Branch. Marcus Allen and Bo Jackson. Tim Brown and Rich Gannon. When I think Raiders, I think Ray Guy.

I asked my dad a few and for the Bills his answer was Lav. Coles :lmao:
I think that guy was drafting behind me last year!Do people associate OJ as a Bills football player or for the murder rap? Old school fans would probably say as the football player, while the under 25 crowd would probably say the murder rap. Just my guess. For me, the player that best represents Buffalo in my eyes: Steve Tasker, the player, not as an announcer.

OJ is stained to much by the murder rap.Jim Kelly and Turman Thomas for me with the Bills - I am 38 years old.

Off the top of my head:

Patriots - Jim Plunkett - gritty, win ugly helped turn the franchise around

Jets - Broadway Joe Namath - more show than go if you look beyond the magical season

Dolphins - Bob Griese - great field general

Bills - Dis-honorable mention to the Juice - Stone cold killer can't stay out of the news

Steelers - Terry Bradshaw - comedic sidekick seen weekly during the season

Ravens - Ray Lewis - bad ### extrordinaire (spelling???)

Bengals - Ken Anderson - gotta give olden timers their due

Browns - Jim Brown - best of the olden timers

Colts - Johnny Unitas - blue collar face of the franchise (Peytie Pie if you go w/ white collar)

Texans - Andre Johnson - Only player they have that consistently rocks

Jaguars - Fred Taylor - perhaps most under valued player during his hey day

Titans - Steve McNair - lasted longer than George

Oilers - Billy White Shoe Johnson put them on the map

Broncos - John Elway edges out Craig Morton (who was the best of when they were among the worst)

Chargers - Ladainian Tomlinson (could have gone old school but though why not wait until...

Chiefs - Lenny Dawson (rather than go with the recent trend in RB's (Holmes/Johnson)

Raiders - Kenny Stabler - played hard and at least looks like he lived hard to

Cowboys - Roger Staubach - hate the team and he is the face of the team I disliked before it was replaced by all the police mug shots

Redskins - Slinging Sammy Baugh - I like Kilmer also but Theismann bugs me

Eagles - Brian Westbrook - gotta have a flavor of the current don't we?

Giants - Lawrence Taylor - Bigger bad ### than Lewis

Packers - Bart Starr - look how far we've come since the opening days (well of the SB's at least)

Vikings - Fran Tarkenton - fan favorite that is not diminished even with his attempt at a career on tv

Bears - Walter Peyton - face of the entire NFL (or at least what I would like to think the NFL stands for)

Lions - Barry Sanders - little and quiet giant

Bucs - Derrick Brooks - give the D its props because that is what TB has been about for so long

Saints - Archie Manning - sure they've won more since but he held the franchise together with mediocre talent

Panthers - Jake Delhomme - I like the blue collar players and he is one of the teams best

Falcons - Michael Vick - couldn't resist going all gansta with this pick

49ers - Joe Montana - the best on a team with some of the greats

Seahawks - Shaun Alexander - it was good while it lasted though the end was tough to watch

Cardinals - Jim Hart - old school representative

Rams - Marshall Faulk - a poor mans Peyton, he did alot for his teams

As witnessed, there are many Cowboys worth mentioning for obvious reasons, but I can't let this thread go by without the mention of Mr. Cowboy himself, Bob Lilly. He was the first, and always will be.

unfortunately I feel as if this thread is flawed. There is no way if and when I would say BENGALS- to my friend, they would rattle off four names. People were thinking too much when answering and it flawed the system lol. I'm sorry, but I'm having a hard time believing that when I say Vikings, you say Tarkenton, your going to say ADP. We live in the now and people haven't been completely honest with this list.
