The Footballguys Bowl! - Was "Interest In A Footballguys Subscriber League?" (2 Viewers)

A couple things I would change for next year.

- 2 minutes is way too long for the majority of us experienced drafters. Changed to 1 minute.

- open waivers or open add/drop. I haven’t played in a league like this in over 10 years. I freaking hate having to race to the website with new news. I am not always able to do this and usually will not join leagues like this. Either close the open add/drop or make it only available on weekends.

Thanks for doing this, I am sure it will be fun. Just a few things that could be improved.

2 cents
I didn't realize this. I am 100% happy to be involved in this, but I usually try to avoid these leagues as well.

I see some folks having issue with the 2-minute timer.
I LOVE 2 minutes, and I've been drafting for 30+ years.
Why the rush?

JMHO, but the Draft is my favorite part of FF. When I schedule a draft, I pretty much write off a massive block of time, sit back, relax and enjoy the hell out of it...and I have plenty of demands on my time.

I can't remember once in 30+ years, saying to myself, or out loud - "Man, this thing is taking forever, I wish we could just get it over with."

From a client satisfaction standpoint, if I were running this thing, I'd weather the complaints about the timer vs the # of folks pleased that they had the time to draft a team they left the draft pleased with. A little extra time helps make that happen.

Rarely does anyone use the whole 2 minutes anyway, but I bet plenty enjoy having a little cushion. Plus the auto-draft is immediate, which is a nice feature.

It's tough enough drafting against a group of, in theory, at least, 11 other acumen-rich drafters.
Why add the stress of having to watch the clock to it?

I almost exclusively play in National High Stakes $$$ Tournaments. I get enough 'draft clock stress' there.

This tournament is free, and should therefore focus on everyone having a good time.

If anyone who is a supposed Fantasy Football Maven thinks shortening a draft is their idea of a good time, I don't know what to tell them.

I say, keep the clock the way it is.

How do waivers work? Seems to be set to FCFS at the moment but the settings say it should be blind bidding? There have only been a couple of FCFS moves made so far.
Judging from my other Sleeper leagues with default setup, the blind bid is just for the Sunday-Wednesday usual waivers. Puts all players on waivers when games start, as expected, and then you queue up your blind bids up until waivers are run on Wednesday at 12am-ish (most would call that Tuesday night still, but technically it’s Wednesday eeeaaaarrrllly morning)
Based on what's happened so far in our league, I think there are two classes of players right now. Undrafted players are free agents and are first come first served. However, if a drafted player is dropped, he doesn't become a free agent for 24 hours. To claim him during that period, you need to use blind bidding. There have been a number of players add/dropped for free. However, when someone dropped Brandon Cooks (to get Toney), three teams tried to grab Cooks and he went to the highest bidder.

Is it normal for waivers to be FCFS before the season starts? All my other leagues don't even allow pickups until after Week 1.

I say this as the beneficiary of having just added Dalvin Cook, but it doesn't feel right or fair. The Sleeper site was super slow I assume because of the news of his signing and everyone rushing to sign him in their leagues.

Yeah. It’s not right when the first person who hears about Breece being carted off the practice field before week 1 gets the backup for free. People would spend serious waiver dollars for a lead back.

Lock add drops for a waiver claim until after week 1 is the way to go.

League 0113:

Well, not too happy with the draft results from FBG bowl. Although, I did try and diversify from my usual players and spread out a bit so maybe that's why I am not too happy with hit.

First off, I had 8th pick which already puts me at a bad spot as I hate the middle picks. Here goes:

  1. ARSB
  2. Collins
  3. Jacobs
  4. Walker
  5. Aaron Jones
  6. Ridley
  7. Mostert
  8. Burrow
  9. Jameson Williams (WR's were sparse)
  10. Shakir
  11. Mike Williams
  12. Hockenson
  13. Jaylen Wright
  14. Marshawn Lloyd
  15. Musgrave
  16. Bo Nix
  17. Carson Steele (figured why not in the 17th)
  18. Justin Fields (hope and a prayer)
  19. Theo Johnson
  20. Houston Defense

I got hosed on TE. Coming up to my 4th round pick there was McBride, Andrews and Kincaid all still left. I decided to take Walker as RB2 and take which ever TE made it back. Looked good as Kincaid was still there the pick before my turn and was sniped the pick before mine. I was happy with Hock in general but have to bridge the gap.

I am fairly happy with my RB's for waiting a bit only I am not really a Jacobs or Walker guy but took them just for something different. I am happy with Mostert/Wright as I am a believer that they will be a solid RB2 at least in production in the 7th round. My WR3 has some questions with Ridley/Shakir/M. Williams but I think at least one of those guys should be good enough.

First Defense taken in the 11th round (SF), then at least one off the board every round from the 14th on. Strange approach although I was tempted a few times as the players left were just not appealing. But I still couldn't bring myself to get a defense that early.

Flame away with the critiques. I can take it.

In general I don't mind the 2 minute clock but there are times in the draft when it was annoying (like first round 6th pick taking the full two minutes. It's a nice leisurely pace and I agree with you that the draft is the best part of the season so why be in a hurry. But when you are waiting to pick and the guy is taking the full two minutes it does get me a bit riled up...hahaha

I think you're being hard on yourself. Only thing I may have done differently is maybe not RB/RB/RB 3-5 and then also at 7. Maybe sneak in another WR there.

I totally agree.........but I didn't really like any of the WR's left in that range. I liked WR's better that were later in the draft and since there were two flex I could play all 4 RB's and I think all of them have the upside to make it worth it.

I should have taken Pitts or Kittle at pick 5 over Jones in hindsight especially since I knew I was targeting Mostert a round or two later. By taking Jones at 5 I missed out on Cooper/McLaurin/Diontae as WR choices but I don't really care for any of them. Those were the following three picks (and only WR's) taken between my 5th and 6th round picks.

Probably a me issue, but I couldn't figure out who 2. Collins was for the longest time. Just not a name I've seen there and had brain lock. Had to go to my ranking list and still didn't see it. Then it dawned on me to scroll way down. :brush:

I've been saying it, round 5 is where the TE's are going.

I get it and I know we have gone around the ADP argument many times. I just think he is better than the Puka, Aiyuk, Adams, Evans, Kupp, Waddle, Olave (the WR's taken after I took Collins) group.

Collins went at 3.11 in my draft.

I love the Jacobs pick so if those were your two flag plants then it's a moot point.

Re: waivers discussions

I agree, in a competitive league like this, I feel like waivers should process daily at like 10am ET and then lock again, and then when games start, same thing more or less, with a true FA window from the time they process Sunday until game time for emergency pickup needs.

One annoying thing about Sleeper is you should be allowed to bid $0. Maybe I did it wrong but it felt like I couldn't do it unless I put $1. Please correct me if wrong there.

I think you're being hard on yourself. Only thing I may have done differently is maybe not RB/RB/RB 3-5 and then also at 7. Maybe sneak in another WR there.
That was my immediate feedback. Especially in this format.

That and I’m not a huge fan of AJones or Jacobs this year, but getting sniped on Kincaid by 1 & Nabers by 1 sucks, and to get value on Metcalf he woulda had to miss KWIII, the only one of those 3 RB I really like.

Lol

Having ARSB slide to 8 was a gift, so nothing to complain about there.

I see a pretty competitive team.

to get value on Metcalf he woulda had to miss KWIII, the only one of those 3 RB I really like.
I debated Metcalf at that spot (over Walker) but with Metcalf, Pittman, Rice, Higgins, and Pickens on the board at WR and Kincaid, McBride, and Andrews at TE..... all still on the board I figured one of those 8 would have made it back and Walker was too good as my RB 2 there. Just didn't work out.

Wilson 1.12
Aiyuk 4.1

Peronsally I would have taken Pacheco in the 3rd and hoped Jacobs slipped. If he didn't, then I would have pivoted to McBride.

Thank you, Joe Bryant.

I only came out of redraft-retirement for this contest, and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed my draft last night. I grew to hate fast drafts and finally gave up on them many years ago. The ability to receive live updates within the Draft Dominator made all the difference in the world to me. I could observe, calculate, and ponder without having to update some list to keep up with taken players. You should try to add this feature for the other league platforms you support.

For next year, I recommend incorporating IR spots. Back, long ago, in the early stages of redraft leagues a player was out for the year when placed on IR. In that environment there was no purpose for IR spots in a redraft league. Nowadays,
  • with only a 4-week minimum stay on IR and the
  • ability for a team to return a multitude of players (without so designating ahead of time) ....
  • even the same player twice
NFL IR more closely resembles the DL in MLB ... used early and often. A 20-player team can be decimated, with little incentive to continue managing their rosters if hit by a slew of injuries. I had a dynasty 25-player team several years back that had 7 players on IR. Without IR spots I would have had to drop start-able (IR) players in order to procure a starting lineup. I've never heard a solid argument against having them (IR spots).

The more I look at my Team, the more I like it.

If the dude at #3 hadn't taken Jaylen Wright in the freaking 8th Round, and I'd landed him around ADP, it would have darn near been an optimal draft (nothing's perfect).

Can't wait to see how it performs when live bullets start flying!

Super grateful this Tournament idea came to fruition, given the time frame, and very confident that future iterations will only build upon a pretty sweet foundation!

Can't wait to see how it performs when live bullets start flying!
Every team I’ve felt this way about goes 3-11 or some such.

I’m just sayin.

Me on draft day after landing every target:

Me in the 1st week of the playoffs, not even watching football because my team got waxed:

Me the next year, looking at my team on draft day:

It’s a vicious cycle.

Count me in the group that enjoyed this draft immensely (thank you FBG!) and very much appreciated the 2 minute pick timer. I ran a number of my picks down to the wire. Drafted using my phone bouncing back and forth between Dominator app and Sleeper app. There were slight delays in each app as I came back to them from the other app. I thought I noticed others in my league (0091) having similar issues or maybe they were just scrambling to find a decent pick as I also was at times.

My vote: Keep the 2 minute pick timer in future years.

Now, as for my team, I'm pretty happy overall. I had mapped out my first 6 picks from the 11 slot and was fortunate enough to get them all. Some later picks landed in my lap and just as many got sniped away. I'd give myself an honest B-/B+ grade.

Oh, by the way, our draft lasted nearly 2 hours last Saturday night and not once did I find myself wishing it would move faster. There were moments I wished I had 30 more seconds to make a more informed decision.

One other note, I saw mentioned earlier up thread someone questioned whether Sleeper permitted $0 bids for waiver claims. They do indeed allow a $0 bid.

Good luck everyone, enjoy your season!!

I was shocked that Aiyuk went that early. Much earlier than I have seen anywhere. Maybe that guy has insider info on the contract negotiations.
He went 3.08 in my NFFC draft tonight 1 pick after I took Nico, (3RR) and that was 2 picks *before* Deebo. Also 1 pick before Nabers (who I nearly took, but I love Nico)

Terrible pick. Truly awful.

Just finished League 077 this AM .. with me drafting from the #6 slot

QB: ARich (6.07), Tua (10.07), Geno Smith (18.07)
RB: Bijan R (1.06), KWIII (3.06), Brian Robinson (9.06), Kendre Miller (16.07)
WR: Olave (2.07), DeV Smith (4.07), McLaurin (5.06), Godwin (7.06), C Watson (8.07), C Samuel (11.06), Juedy (12.07), R Pearsall (14.07), J Tolbert (19.06)
TE: Sinnott (13.06), TJ Hock (15.06), Gesicki (20.07)

Not happy with my TE but felt solid overall
Could not pass up KW III at 3.06
Feel my depth is good, but as expected, had multiple targets go a pick or 2 ahead of me ...

Surprises: Quality QB's available late; Serious run on RB's early (14 selected in rounds 2-4)
TE's went fast middle 5th thru late 6th (9 selected started at 5.09)
Hey Birdie, nice draft. we are league mates. I was in the 4 spot. I was hoping for Lamb or Hill, but went RB and that pretty much altered what I had wanted to do, went RB heavy instead of WR heavy. I feel I have an average team, given the disadvantage at WR. Since we will ultimately be competing against every other top team if we finish at the top, I figured I wanted a t5 QB and TE. We'll see how it goes. Good luck

QB: Hurts, Watson, Carr
RB: Hall, White, Kamara, Chubb, Charbonnet, Mason
WR: Pittman, Allen, Addison, Palmer, Mitchell, Franklin, Bourne
TE: Engram, Likely

Nice!
It was a smooth draft!
Solid first couple of picks!!
We both lack elite WR or TE!!:bored:
Should be a blast!
Good luck. Just enuf for you to finish 2nd!

Can anyone help me here. First year using Sleeper. Whenever I open one of these draft boards, I have a a screen blocking the first two columns (picks 1 and 2)
It has the Sleeper emblem and reads "FBGCommish's Draft 12 team PPR Snake"

How do get this off the screen so I can see the entire draft board?

I’ve never seen that before in the 3 sleeper leagues I’m now in.
Are you using the web browser version or the mobile app?
I guess my suggestion would be “use the other one” :)

Web browser at work. Just frustrating.

I used the web browser for the draft on Tuesday and didn't have this issue. I did have to scroll up and down as necessary as the entire draft board wasn't visible in the screen but I don't recall anything in the way.

Hey I wanted to give you a little insight on why we didn't have IR spots and allocated for 20 person rosters in 2024. The simple reason: We are manually managing and commissioning this in 2024. The IR can be manipulated and we truly wanted to strive for maximum integrity in 2024 at all cost. It is also the reason why there are no trades this year. Believe me, I love having a a 16 person roster with 2 IR spots and complete open trading. I 100% understand the love and dedication to those settings.

Next year we are taking all sorts of things into consideration like dedicated regional/social group divisions, trading, the 2 minute clock, and many other things. We are so glad you guys are here with us in year one to help us work through the kinks. We want Footballguys Bowl to be the most fun and inclusive community building BOWL in the industry. We cannot do that without you guys!

Haven't experienced issue using iOS or Chrome. I've used both in live drafts. Try a different browser if closing out & launch again doesn't resolve.

I want to chime in and say the 2 minute clock is perfectly fine. What happened to the time when draft day was something really fun? As Brooks Hadlin said in Shawshank, "The world went and got itself in a big damn hurry".
I agree, about 2 hours for a 20 round draft is not that bad, There were some times I got sniped for the player I wanted and had to go back and do a quick research for an alternative, so the 2 minutes was really pretty good. I think we only had 1 maybe 2 owners that needed the full timer.

League 137 here. I came to the conclusion that drafting spots 11 and 12… just bites hard. I enjoyed the competitive drafting as it helped me prepare for my other $$$ drafts. Thank you for doing this!

I hate my team which means it’ll probably hunt.

I’ve drafted out of the 12, 7, 6, 9, and 1 spots for redraft.

my best draft came out of the 7. 2nd best out the 6th.

My teams that drafted 11 & 12 are messy. Competitive, but messy. I usually love the bookend, but hate those spots this year. Feels like a very clear top 10, then it’s a crapshoot.

Chiming in to say thanks Joe and to the Footballguys that helped put this together and run the contest!

Due to my work situation this is one of only 2 contests I'm in this year, after being in 133 leagues last year. So I really appreciate the opportunity to use the approximate 100+ hours of projections and rankings work I put in this season for more than one league!

Also, I like the format with the 6-point passing TDs and double flex. The playoff scoring and advancement format should be entertaining. The 20-man rosters should work well and I'll throw my vote in for keeping the 2 minute timer.

Specific to our league 113 draft, I found it interesting that more teams didn't go zero RB given the lineup format. I also thought high-end passing QBs may get elevated in draft spot, but Stroud, Burrow and Prescott all went about where they'd be expected to go. Only Mahomes went earlier than I'd expected at pick 29.

And yep, I was the weirdo taking Aiyuk in the 2nd round on good understanding that he would sign. He's my 10th ranked WR this year, so why risk letting him go to someone else at a discount? Draft your guys, right?

Thanks FBG!

Thanks FBG!

you had some absurd luck in this draft. Lamb at 1.03, McBride falls to the 4th, Rice to the 5th?

I don’t mind the zero RB but I probably would have pulled the trigger on Najee, BRob,or Warren over Allen - feels like you pushed it 1 WR too far.

I’ll be interested in seeing how this team performs. :hifive:
