The Great 2020 All Time Television Draft: The Simpsons is judged the greatest show of all time (1 Viewer)

That's when I was finally able to watch it.  I binge-watched it and finished just before the free trial ran out. I came away from it feeling torn; I thought it was well-acted and the casting choices were perfect, but at the same time I wasn't overly impressed by it. Maybe it was because I got to it so late and didn't have to wait between episodes, so I'm not trying to bash it, just saying I didn't get the over the top hype for it.
IMHO it changed TV as we know it... not as much as The Simpsons though ;)

Gally and I kicked around taking it over Seinfeld, so I do have a high regard for it. Maybe I'm being overly critical because I missed it when it first came out, but I'm definitely not saying it wasn't a good pick.

The six seasons of 13 episodes ran over 8 years, and then an 8-episode 6B. There were some long waits and the interest was ubiquitous. There was no on-demand in the original run but several airings each episode.

I’m on my 3rd rewatch (4th time) and the depth is kind of unique IMO. A lot of symbology I previously missed, foreshadowing, subtle humor, songs that tie scenes/episodes together. Characters and plot lines develop, a lot is open to differing interpretation. The lead was masterful but great performances throughout the cast.

Definitely a cultural touchstone and I love there are whole new fan bases, people who weren’t born or were toddlers or just never got around to it.

I’ve only watched 1/2 of the first season of GoT. It just never pulled me in, I tried more than once. No accounting for taste I guess.

I struggle with The Wire to be honest have tried it twice, but it hasn't grabbed me ... yet, will try again soon.  Sopranos had me from the jump and the lead is amazing in the role.  Here on the Island, I've seen one or two of the characters come into the local eateries once or twice, always good fun to see them out in the wild.

@timschochet let me know if you're ok with me judging these categories so I know to pay more attention to them:

1971- 1990 comedy

1991-2020 comedy

Science Fiction
To push things along and help Tim out - yes, those are yours (assuming someone else didn't claim them first).

Also, I'm coordinating with Hags on the spreadsheet so hopefully have that soon.

1.3 I Love Lucy- comedy, 1950-1980

Much like the first two picks, not much to say here. There is possibly ONE other show that might compete with this but I still would have Lucy as #1, easy.
Ok, your category doesn't jive with the OP.  I thought you changed it but wasn't sure.  Can we get the OP updated with the categories?

Thanks!

I'll judge these two...

Sports Personality

Sports Play by Play
How are you defining sports personality?  Is it an athlete that did tv, movies, commercials etc or is it someone like Chris Berman who doesn't fit into play by play but is personality in the sports world? or something totally different than either of those?

Was kind of wondering, too, if the Sports Play by Play category was super-strictly play-by-play announcers only, or if color announcers were also included in the category despite the name?

You guys can do what you think will earn the most points.   I'm not going to exclude any announcers of color.

If you think a color announcer is a better choice than a PBP guy, go for it and prove your case.

Love this show.  Fave episodes would be so hard.

I was just watching bloopers/outtakes and I start to wonder how these shows ever get made with how much cracking up must go on.

1.10 - The Honeymooners - Comedy 1950-70

I feel this and Lucy are 1/2 in a category that's very top-heavy. It's a tossup as to which is better. I prefer Ralph and Ed - the "Classic 39" are pure comedy gold, and are still hilarious today. If I had 1.01, this might have been my pick, so I'm happy to have it here.

I like Honeymooners over I love Lucy, but each have a solid argument to be the top of list.

It was only on for 1 season so I thought that might knock it down quite a bit.  It was 39 episodes but only one season.  Tough to rank it at the top without any longevity.

ETA:  I guess it varies on the seasons as I have seen anywhere from 1 to 3 but so far it shows just a total of 39 episodes.

But to this day it's still televised and beloved. They also found another 100 or so epidsodes.
