TV Detectives: The two guys who you really want solving the crime.
15 Points: Lenny Briscoe
Besides Andy Sipowicz (who would have done well in this list too), likely the most “real” portrayal of a detective I’ve seen. No nonsense, somewhat world-weary/seen it all, but always got the job done. Fun fact: In the early/mid 90’s, I worked as a private detective’s assistant for a year. He was a retired (and somewhat famous) NYPD detective, and he was also the main consultant for Law and Order – he kept the show real.
16 Points: Frank Columbo
There has never been a better TV detective. The neat thing is, we knew who the bad guy was 5 minutes into the show, but following Columbo as he asked “just one more thing” to figure it all out was a delight. #1 with a bullet.
