I know there are other brands but these are the ones that won State by State in the Great American Chip-Off

-it was on right after the weather report on my local news this morning, thought it was worth having a poll and discussion.
Ruffles? Is that really the best brand? Boulder Canyon is just potatoes, salt and avocado oil, still have calories and fat but not so many ingredients
Ruffles makes a "Simply" style that I have always liked, also just 3 ingredients including the potatoes and salt.

What say you?

Not a chip but I did see Smartfood popcorn now comes in Doritos classic flavor, nothing to write home about
Again, for the purposes of ths poll, we are strictly dealing with potato chips

I go through a lot of Ruffles. Both the original/plain flavor and the Cheddar & Sour Cream. Just for convenience and "you know what you're getting" sake, that's my vote.
"Simply" Ruffles makes a hot n spicy potato chip that my wife loves but it's just too spicy for me, I can eat like 3 or 4 of them and then I've had enough
Lay's has a similar chip that has limited ingredients, not sure why all chips cannot be made that way.
They also make Doritos in both nacho and cool ranch...when does it stop?
I can go years and not open a bag of Doritos but you package them in a semi-healthy looking bag with natural ingredients used and I start grabbing them 2 at a time.

Chip specific, the dark russet from Cape Cod and they make a similar chip by Saratoga Chips which I only find at Fresh Mkt
Those dark russets are delicious, Cape Cod use to make one a little lighter but I haven't seen them in a long time, just the dark russets now

1. Ruffles "Simply", 3 ingredients and delicious, perfect for dipping

2. Utz/Cape Cod - Like both of them and they also have some fun flavors, Utz makes a dill pickle with ridges, outrageous when you have the munchies

3. Boulder Canyon - I don't reach for them but when they run a sale I sometimes will grab them. Pretty good potato chip

I use to like Kettle Brand when I was in California but don't buy them very often now, kind of heavy compared to the others and don't care for the air fry they offer

I have only heard of a few of the choices. Ruffles, Lays, Pringles, & Kettle brand.

In general I am not a fan of just plain potato chips unless there is a dip to go along with it. My current favorite potato chip is the Ruffles Jalapeno Ranch chip. They are just too addicting.

Others that aren't eligible because they aren't 'potato' are Doritos Spicy Sweet Chili, Maui Style Maui Onion (not listed above), and Jalapeno Chedder Crunchy Cheetos.

ETA: Thanks to MoP I will add Chilli Cheese Fritos into the list as well.

I voted Boulder Canyon, to me they're the best of the bunch listed as they're fried in avocado oil which has a really high smoke point, they're thicker-ish, they're not terribly greasy and they have a nice crunch/snap. With that stated, my favorite not listed are Great Lakes Parmesan Ranch Style. They don't taste anything like ranch (to me) so I'm unclear why ranch is in the name, maybe the parmesan overpowers the ranch? But, anyway, I think they are absolutely perfectly made, seasoned and a nice thicker cut.

Also...because no one asked. It's pronounced Ahtz not Youtz
I lived in Hanover, PA (where UTZ is/was HQed) for 5 years and came in pronouncing it like your first suggestion. Every single person from the area I ran across pronounced it Ootz. That messed me up, man.

We have a local chip company here in NW Virginia called "Route 11" that's pretty good.

Zapp's Crawtators for the win for me by a large margin. Although I did prefer them when they were a local LA product and only used peanut oil. Not quite as good since Utz bought them.

1. Mikesell's
2. Jimmy John's
3. Kettle
4. Cape Code
5. Munchos. You heard me.
Forgot Munchos. I've mentioned before, but all my long roadtrips include pimento cheese, Munchos, and a fresh serrano pepper.

Munchos might be my number one. It actually helps that they are not regularly available where I live. So odd that they only seem to pop up at gas stations in the middle of nowhere.

I think they are being phased out I have seen some Chester’s Crisps or something that look exactly the same and I did try them but seemed not 100% the same

Pretty sure it’s a brand consolidation thing going on though

Utz are solid chips though, the Grandma Utz cooked in lard might be the best chip I’ve ever eaten

Jays old fashioned Kettle Cooked are also amazing but they do leave your mouth feeling like you licked crisco

As far as the pole I’ll take the local option Better Made

I’m largely a plain chips guy their base and wavy are both great
They also do a rainbow chip that are a nice dark brown
Those Better Made rainbow dark chips are downright addicting for those who like a well done chip. Their other types are good also, even the ones with half the salt.

Of the other ones listed I like Ruffles with a good dip.

Flawed question.

Hands down, the best chip available - no matter what flavor you want:

West Coast came thru like a freight train overnight, 14 votes for Kettle, I didn't see that coming but their chips have plenty of shelf space in Publix so it's not just West Coast but Kettle won in States like California, Nevada and Oregon. Ruffles won Ohio, IL, IN, KY, AR, TX, and big chunks of the Midwest .

This wasn't limited to plain potato chips, just brands. I kind of twisted the Ruffles to bend or stretch out to "Simply" which if for some reason you haven't tried them, I highly encourage you. They have Ruffles, Cheetos, Doritos, they all have a lane under that "Simply" label. Kind of smart on their part because it squashes any independent label that was trying to say they were a healthier chip, Frito-Lay slam dunked the chips on them. Also attracts people that believe they are more health conscious although they still are not healthy

I also like the small batch kettle chips from numerous brands. When we travel we seem to run into local chip brands and I always want to try them.

I agree 100% and I mentioned this above your post there, hands down my favorite chips when I can find them. The thing that irritates me about this brand (Great Lakes) is that sometimes I'll find them in Costco in some random area of the store. The next time I visit Costco they're nowhere to be found. Sometimes I'll find them in Sam's Club in some random area of the store, sometimes with the other chips, most of the time they're just not there. Sometimes I will find small bags in Kroger or Meijer on the bottom shelf with the generic store brand chips or at the very top in the middle of the non-chips (like with Cheetos or Funions or something.) I really don't understand why they are not on the shelves consistently; I find that really annoying and odd about this brand.
