"The guy can catch a BB in the dark" (1 Viewer)

The success of Jarvis Landry sans the prototypical athletic profile has caused me to open my eyes to some of the sleeper types that may be available free-of-charge off waivers.

I thought going into the draft that an 'ideal fit' would be Leonte Carroo with the 49ers. Obviously that did not happen, so I watched to see who they would pick, and Aaron Burbridge seems to me to be a decent arbitrage play. In addition to the quote in the title, his college coach had these things to say (at 49ers.com):

-Team MVP with 85 receptions, 1258 yards, and 7 TDs - including 7 100+ yard games

-first team all-Big Ten

-"he's got great hand-eye coordination and makes all the 50-50 catches"

-"he'll go over the middle ("fearless"), catch the ball, and get north immediately"

-"he's got good run-after-the-catch ability"

- "he's a really good receiver that makes the acrobatic catches"

- "he became the go-to guy as a freshman (slowed by a hamstring injury as a sophomore)

- "what he lacks in size (6'0" 206) he more than makes up for with football IQ and position versatility"

- "I think he should be a phenomenal player in the NFL"

Besides the greatest quote ever, I thought I would at least raise the awareness of this article as maybe somebody here might think he is worth a flyer.

Insert, "Yeah, but can he catch a beach ball five yards over his head in broad daylight....... from Kaepernick" joke.

I kid, but you may be on to something. He certainly sounds like a very poor man's Nelson Agholor.

The BB quote was coined originally by Michael Irvin coming out of college.

Yeah, I don't really know enough to recommend him. But, I get a lot of good information from this forum and it is rare that I feel I can contribute anything - so I just thought I would share because this article did not get much play and people may not have been aware of it.

It's not like he has a ton of competition to beat out for targets. Personally I'm thinking Smelter could be the "sleeper" in this offense - but it's really wide open and Burbridge has a good of a shot as any.

I think the idea was good...... it's definitely a situation where someone should drastically out-perform their ADP in the WR corp there. Not sold on the player but it may be a situation similar to the DEN RB situation not long ago...... just wait and take the guy that is left at the end of your draft. By the time the third preseason game is here things will be clearer and you either have a winning ticket or you just drop him and that is your easy waiver wire drop. I remember in the past both Moreno and Hillman were thought to be on the roster bubble this early and ended up starting multiple weeks during the season.

I was interested in this kid prior to our draft so I read up on him a bit.  I don't remember where I saw the article to reference it, but it shed some decent light into what to expect from him.

He was a four star recruit who received offers from Michigan, Ohio State and Notre Dame.  Never played up to his potential until senior year.  Not sure if that is indicative of his growth as a player or if Connor Cook helped him appear better.  He makes some great catches even when a DB is draped over him, but there always seems to be a DB draped over him,  This makes me think he can't get separation.  Seems to have a nose for the end zone and moves pretty well with the ball in his hands.

I would take a flyer on him in leagues with a large roster, but I can't see him ever being more than a low level possession guy.  Maybe a third down wr in 3-4 wr sets.
