Kind of an embarrassing exit for Neil from Spotify . Who the hell encouraged him to do this , only going to punish Spotify listeners
Why is this embarrassing for Neil? Spotify and Rogan should be the one’s who are embarrassedKind of an embarrassing exit for Neil from Spotify . Who the hell encouraged him to do this , only going to punish Spotify listeners
Well he’s no Ted NugentIsn't Neil the super right wing, freedom, gun advocate?
Lol. Thanks that's who I was thinking of.We’ll he’s no Ted Nugent
And his own pocketbook. He said Spotify accounts for 60% of his downloads.Kind of an embarrassing exit for Neil from Spotify . Who the hell encouraged him to do this , only going to punish Spotify listeners

I can't keep track
I don't pay that close attentionNot sure how you mixed that up. One is a great musician and the other is Ted Nugent.
There is a bit of that seeping in for sure. I would guess a bit is because he might be more under the political crosshairs because of his covid stances in the last couple years?I started listening to a lot of the Joe Rogan podcasts at the beginning of the lockdowns. I liked the fact that at the time—it felt like a nice break from all of the toxic political crap from both sides I feel subjected too. However—slowly but surely—his podcasts have become filled with the same political jargon over and over again. Soo much redundancy about the vaccine stuff, the anti-California stuff. It really bums me out as I enjoyed his stuff. I did learn about Lex Fridman from the Rogan podcast and I do enjoy his stuff. He is a bit more “dry” as an interviewer—but I do find him to be interesting.
What I loved about him is it used to be a very diverse group of people he’d interview. Because of this you could hear all different viewpoints in the long interview format. Not many other places could you do that. But the last couple months or so has been very heavy right it feels like. Could very well be just a coincidence of the grouping but it’s starting to definitely have a slant to it that I don’t feel it had before.I started listening to a lot of the Joe Rogan podcasts at the beginning of the lockdowns. I agree with you about the diversity of the guests back in the day. I also agree with you about the long format allowing for a point and counterpoint dynamic. That was the beauty of the dynamic. In brutal honesty—i started listening less when he moved to Spotify as I feel like what you are describing was starting to manifest back then. I probably haven’t listened to a single Rogan podcast in the past couple of months—but what you are describing is exactly the direction that I felt he was moving in—which is unfortunate imo.dkp993 said:What I loved about him is it used to be a very diverse group of people he’d interview. Unfortunately there are a lot of dopes in his listening pool who take his opinion as fact.Rogan always states his opinions as just that. He never presents them as facts. He should be free to keep doing that. And we're free to stop listening if we choose. I'm not really into his podcast anymore since it moved from YouTube.
Also, losing Neil Young is going to have 1/1,000th the impact that losing Rogan would have. Who cares? Don't let the door hit you, gramps.

Ftr, he's free to give whatever opinion he wants just as NY is free to disassociate himself from a forum that disseminates that opinion. There's no free speech infringement going on here.
This isn't true. I've watched about 90 minutes of his show over the last two weeks, and I can tell you that's not true.Rogan always states his opinions as just that. He never presents then as facts.
100% agreeBig fan of Joe but his COVID rants bring down every show in the last 6-8 months. Doesn’t matter the guest, it inevitably degrades to COVID and vaccines. EVERY…SINGLE…SHOW
Still listen buts it’s incredibly annoying at this point and his guests are starting to slant toward those that support his opinions rather than the random Graham Hancock or Elon Musk or Edward Snowden.

Also a lot of dopes who believe everything the government and TV tells them. This is equally sad. The trouble is neither group has any self awareness.Unfortunately there are a lot of dopes in his listening pool who take his opinion as fact.

Seems like Neil could have exited the service without looking like a big entitled baby.I think this situation is playing out exactly as it should. Joe certainly shouldn’t be canceled and if NY doesn’t want his music associated with Spotify anymore so be it. Spotify has agreed and dropped his music. It’s being handled correctly on all fronts imo.
Fair. But he’s done a lot of that throughout his career so I think that’s his comfort zone.Seems like Neil could have exited the service without looking like a big entitled baby.
What is his opinion on the vaccine?I used to listen to him a lot depending on the guest he would have on, but his stance on Covid is a deal breaker for me. Haven’t listened to him since.
My uncle just got out of the hospital from open heart surgery. I was surprised to hear he didn't cross check what his doctor told him with opinions from Joe Rogan, Tucker Carlson, and conservative politicians. Weird. Also a lot of dopes who believe everything the government and TV tells them. This is equally sad. The trouble is neither group has any self awareness.

Hadn't heard about this NY/Rogan pissing match. It's kind of nuts. I get that Rogan is the most popular, so has a bigger target on his back, but there's gotta be 1000s of podcasts and episodes with sketchy info on them, right? Neil didn't have beef with any of them up to this point, just Joe? From THIS article:
Spotify said in a statement on Wednesday: “We want all the world’s music and audio content to be available to Spotify users. With that comes great responsibility in balancing both safety for listeners and freedom for creators. We have detailed content policies in place and we’ve removed over 20,000 podcast episodes related to Covid since the start of the pandemic.”

The other thing that usually gets me is all the MMA. I get it that's his background, but I usually avoid listening to those shows, despite watching and liking a bit of MMA. But then I'll tune into another episode I think will be funny or interesting like Snoop Dogg - and it felt like half MMA and boxing chat. Feel cheated out info or something.![]()
Not remotely my point. So we should ban people for having conversations because in your opinion it may or may not contain, in your words, "sketchy info"?
One of the cool things that happened when I started listening to podcasts 4-5 years ago was they all mention other good podcasters. If you listen, you pick up on this and start listening to them. I started with Dan Carlin, who mentioned Jocko and Rogan, started listening to them and from there have picked up another 6-8 I listen to.Agree on all this, specifically on Freidman.
You have to pick and choose. If you listen to anyone for 3 hours all the time youre going to get bored or hear some of the same stuff.
Not remotely my point.
More that I thought it was funny Neil had 0 problems with all that other stuff on Spotify during his time there, but for some reason Joe is the last straw.

I also agree that focusing on one is going to burn you out. I listened to 200 of Jocko's podcasts before I took a break and started on Rogan. Then binged him for a while but Joe is very eclectic so not all his shows interest me. Now I bounce between 5-6 so I've always got new content to chose from and one of them typically has a subject I'm interested in.

I know you know this, but Neil asking Spotify to decide between him or Rogan has nothng to do with free speech or anti-free speechBassNBrew said:Judge Smails said:Why is this embarrassing for Neil? Spotify and Rogan should be the one’s who are embarrassed
I generally don't side with the anti-free speech guy.

And if it does, then it can be discussed in the political forum. Not trying to be a board cop, just trying to help you all out and save you from the Mods.I know you know this, but Neil asking Spotify to decide between him or Rogan has nothng to do with free speech or anti-free speech
