The Lions will once again be horrible next year (1 Viewer)

I believe this because of these reasons...

1) Every team in the league will have a lot of cap room. So the chances of them snagging a big time free agent is slim and none. Why would ______ go to the Lions when he could go to a better team for the same money?

2) They have a lot of needs and unless they get really lucky with the draft, they wont fill them all.

3) Matt Millen

Sometimes strange things happen, and a team can go from worst to first in a season. but with the big increase in cap room that every team will get. I just don't see it happening. IMO teams that are one piece away could make the move next season, but bad teams with multiple needs don't have a chance!!!

So teams like Oakland, Detroit & Cleveland you will be battling for the #1 pick again next year.

The Lions were wierd this season (and last) in the sense that their performances werre wildly inconsistent. It was easy to see in San Fran, Tennessee, and New Orleans (for example) that the team was a break or two away from being average or better. The Lions offer no such hope. They play great and then go a month it seems without getting a first down.

Even if they picked a great contributor or two or three in the draft, I wouldn't be shocked to see them picking in the top 5 again next year.

The Lions did play a number of close games. They only lost by double digits in 3 games and were only truly blown out in one. I think they have the talent of an average team not a complete bottom dweller.

In other shocking news, water will once again be wet. They have the talent at the skill positions, even Kitna is a viable starting QB, they just don't have the OL and defense yet.

This don't offer much hope regardless of talent:

2007 Schedule

Home- Chicago, Dallas, NY Giants, Denver, KC, Tampa Bay, Green Bay, Minnesota

Away- Chicago, Philadelphia, San Diego, Washington, GB, Minn, Arizona, Oakland

7 games against playoff teams - ouch!

If they could score Freeney and Samuel that could make a huge improvement!

--Hey, I can dream can't I?

Actually, when the Lions beat Atlanta in week 9 to improve to 2-6, I was pretty happy with what I was seeing on the field.

Aside from the game against the Bears, the Lions had been in every game against a pretty tough schedule. The offense was really starting to click, and with SF, Ari and Mia as the next three games on the schedule, I thought the Lions could take 2 of 3 if not all 3. Instead, they tanked and lost them all, and the Miami game was particualrly embarassing.

Injuries were partly to blame, but it really looked the Lions gave up down the stretch, and it made me wonder about Marinelli.

There are some reasons for optimism going forward. The Lions have a good QB, good skill position talent, and an excellent defensive line when they're all healthy. If they could shore up the offensive line and the secondary, I think they would be competitive. But as usual, when you go into an offseason with Matt Millen, you can't count on anything getting done right.

If the Lions pick anywhere outside of the Top-5 in the 2008 draft, you've gotta consider their 2007 season an enormous accomplishment.

That is all.

The Lions need an offseason like the Saints had last year...just to go 8-8.

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that Detroit Lions team officials, including Matt Millen, took Wisconsin tackle Joe Thomas to dinner Monday night.Tuesday at the Senior Bowl offensive coordinator Mike Martz said the Lions needs were "everything, except for a quarterback."This could be a smoke screen, but it looks like the Lions are satisfied with Kitna as their QB and will look to address other needs with the 2nd overall pick in the draft.
This needs a punchline. Have at it.

This guy gets it. :D Except, they do need a new QB; it's just not their most pressing need.

This is why they must, absolutely, positively, trade down and out of that #2 pick to accumulate 2 quality players for one.

I wouldn't call the defensive line excellant. They are good (and pretty deep) when healthy, but they still lack that dominating pass rusher. The secondary isn't great either but it would be much better if they didn't have to cover so long.

This is what I'd like to see, but again we're talking about Millen trying to get 2 picks right instead of just one. I find myself wondering if it's Millen who can't evaluate the talent or is the problem the information he's getting from the scouting department.

Since the Lions just signed Furrey to a new three year deal, I think the possibility of trading out of the #2 pick just increased.

Martz has always wanted Furrey to play the slot. If he's available I'd say take the best talent available .... Calvin Johnson. I don't see them taking a QB or a RB so that leaves Joe Thomas which I wouldn't have a problem with. Thing is this team is so set on Jeff "on his" Backus it infuriates me. They CANNOT draft another young QB without fixing the line first.

Roy Williams 1310yds, 7tdsMike Furrey 1086yds, 6tdsYeah, those Lion WRs are a big problem.
