THE Metro-Detroit Thread (1 Viewer)

Anthony Bourdain on Detroit.

I love Detroit. I think it’s beautiful. I think it’s one of the most beautiful cities in America — still. . . .

Detroit looks like nowhere else. Detroit looks like mother####in’ Detroit. As it should.

I’ll say it again. And again.

I love Detroit. I love Detroiters. You’ve got to have a sense of humor to live in a city so relentlessly ####ed. You’ve got to be tough — and occasionally even devious. And Detroiters are funny, tough — and supreme improvisers. They are also among the best and most fun drinkers in the country.

was on the east side last weekend for a party, then of course tried to hit National Coney Island for some late night eating

And they were closed, WTF, when did this happen? National not open late night on a Saturday for the Drunks?

tried Hall road - closed at 11:30, tried 19 & garfield - closed

WTH

Leos Coneys are open all night.

Detroit is a football town first and foremost. The wings and pistons had parades Downtown down Woodward after their championships. The Lions could have one down Woodward starting in Pontiac if they ever won a Super Bowl.

Couple of other tidbits:

RealBBQ in Canton has closed already. I ate there a few times but it was nothing special. Besides Famous Daves, Boneyard and Westpoint BBQ, where are the good BBQ joints in the Canton, Westland, etc area?

HS Football database is sweet. My HS is 18th overall since 1950.

Shameless plug for a friends business. Avenue Sports Bar in Wayne (On Elizabeth between W. MIchigan Ave and E. Michigan AVenue). Food is good, staff is excellent, overall good time. Crowd is a little different later on Friday and Saturday (younger, and such). Also, they throw a bunch of outdoor parties throughout the year that usually rock pretty good.

Burger Rankings:

Millers, then Masons, then everyone else.
Have you been down to the Mercury yet? Quickly becoming one of our favorites, not just for the burgers, but for the fries and rings too.
Where is it?
Straight across the street from Slow's...

Was visiting with girlfriend's family in Canton a couple of weekends ago and we ventured downtown to Green Dot Stables for some good sliders and beer. Could use a good slider spot like that here in Chicago, great stuff

Green Dot is solid. It's in a very odd spot, but the sliders are good.
