The Miami Dolphins control their own destiny to win AFCE (1 Viewer)

Miami runs the table and they win the AFCE, even in a tie with New England and the Jets.

While I do not think we run the table and do this thing, all I can say is hats off to Parcells, Ireland, and Sporano for what they have done this year.

 since the Dolphins aren't getting any love in any of the other AFC playoff possibility threads. What an amazing turnaround from last year when they were 0-12 at this point last year. They get a little lucky next week at BUF too - the game will be played in a dome in Toronto so weather will not be a factor. I just hope they still have a shot the last week of the season @ NYJ. I have tickets to that game and would love it if meant something.Losing Smiley yesterday will hurt.

:lmao: Indeed it has. We can take this division which is just an incredible turnaround.

I think it would be awesome to see the Jets dump Pennington for Favre only to lose the division to the Pennington-led Dolphins. :X

Short of Aaron Rogers and the Packers beating the Jets in the Super Bowl this season, I cannot think of anythgin that woudl be more ironic than Pennington beating the Jets to clinch the East in week 17 in NY.Please football gods....PLEASE!!!!

I still love my Jets despite the cliff they fell off yesterday. Miami has never been totally out and as shaky a possibility it is for them to run the table, I am incredibly impressed with the turn-around. But did anyone expect less that stellar change with Parcells? Man does not half-step.

I am very happy as a Jets fan to see Miami come back into the division the way they have. I want the Bills to play well too. The AFC East could be an incredibly competitive division. Heck, it already is.

Makes football more fun to watch when everyone is doing well.

Good luck running the table - to me it's about as likely as the Jets/Giants Super Bowl everyone was 'printing tickets for' last week. But stranger things have happened.

Excuse Jets fans for getting excited after they destroyed a team last week that nobody has beaten in the NFL this season...wow what stupid fans we Jets fans are...Is Miami printing playoff tickets now? Oh thats right, it doesn't matter if they do because no one will go to the game anyways. Miami controls their own destiny, lets see them play with a little prosperity. Its tough winning in the NFL when you are expected to win.I am a huge Pennington fan & am glad for his success. He is clearly a top 15 or 20 QB in the NFL, just not as good as Favre.

:missing: Actually, after beating Tennessee, there was relatively little Jets fan talk here - More media stuff than anything in NY.A real Jets fan is pretty humble and has been through a lot.I've been even keeled all year and after 4-12 I'm just enjoying the ride... After the first few weeks we had discussions about Favre not wanting to be a Jet and what a disaster it was... Then yeah, last week you had media going crazy... And now, Miami fans getting all excited again..One week at a time!

Miami's success is the classic case of "addition by subtrraction". Nick Saban sucked as a pro coach because he can't treat them like he treats college kids, and Sporano and Parcells know what they are doing!

I was at the Dolphins-Rams game yesterday. Lifelong Dolphins here and was thoroughly stoked to see this "new" Phins team up close and personal. I walked away with mixed emotions. The way the Rams played, the Dolphins should have routed them. Instead they only won by 4 points and the game was still in jeopardy up until the last minute.

I liked what I saw out of Penny. Definitely not a gambler and his accuracy is as good as advertised. The combo of Ronnie and Ricky seemed to keep the Rams off balance. Ginn and Bess are turning into a good tandem.

They just didn't seem to have an big play ability. I don't think there was a play that went longer than 20 yards (might have been a couple that I'm forgetting). It almost seemed like they were either playing down to the Rams level, or that they just aren't quite there yet.

I think they've turned the corner and will continue to improve, but I didn't see an AFC East champion team yesterday. Fortunately their schedule is good but if they play the Niners and Chiefs like they played the Rams, then it's no gimme.

Still, I like the view a lot better from 7-5 rather than 0-12.

The Dolphins have looked like ### versus several bad teams lately. The good thing for you is that you're winning games that you would have lost last year. BP and Sparano have done a nice job this year.

Well, I'm off to start a Jets control their own destiny to win AFCE thread.

I'm right here. I never get too high or too low. They were not ready for the game yesterday, and got beat handily. I still think the Jets bounce back and make the playoffs, likely winning the division. It's funny how much things change on a weekly basis - as I can now see some Dolphin fans ready to anoint their team AFCE champs. It's a long, tough season, a lot will likely change on a week-to-week basis.

Links please?Or are you just making blanket statements assuming they are true? Because every Jet fan I know, including MOST on this board have remained cautiously optimistic this entire season, including during the recent winning streak. No one around here that I can recall has said a thing about the Superbowl.

corrected ... if BUF plays like they did this week and in many recent weeks, it should be 3 more wins heading to NYJ in week 17

Smack is a Fisherman and IMO a typical Miami fan. He's taking NY Media Craziness and trying to attribute it to Jets fans and even worse, Jets fans here... - I don't know 1 Jets fan that was buying that..... Every Jets fan I know is the most humblest of Sports fans you can meet, and for good reason... Even the "are the Jets AFC east Fav's" thread was dead last week after beating Tennessee... Imagine that for the Pats or Fins.....Good and Bad about the Miami resurgence - Miami fans I know are among the most obnoxious fans of a team that I've never seen do a damn thing in my life.

Long time Jet fan and poster - I was on record last week that I am still nervous about the Jets making the playoffs! Last week was a complete media fabrication - true Jet fans are waiting for the bottom to fall out....you can only kick a dog so many times....

Ah take it easy Jet fans - didn't mean to get under your skin so badly. My hatred of the Jets comes with being a Dolphin fan living in NY - all week long last week I was subjected to J-E-T-S chants in my office. The newspapers had them playing the Giants in the SB last week.PLEASE understand that I'm giddy to be a Dolphin fan these days - it's been so long since they've played a meaningful game this late in the season I can barely control myself.IF by the grace of the football Gods, Pennington has the chance to beat the Jets for the division in Week 17 it will only rival AJ Duhe single handily beating Richard Todd and the Jets way back when in the AFC Championship game.

I think the Dolphins have shown some big play ability in the running game this year... Ginn, Williams, and Brown all have runs of 40+ on the season. That said, it hasn't happened a lot... I could only tell from long runs in game logs that there have been 6 runs of 21+ yards. In the passing game, I think that is part of what you get with Pennington. He has only attempted 20 passes of 21+ yards on the season... you can hit some long plays based on YAC, but I think you need to throw it deep more often to really achieve big plays in the passing game.

Just to compare Pennington to the others in the top 10 in QB rating:

Romo: 32 pass attempts thrown 21+ yards downfield in 300 attempts = 10.7%

Rivers: 37/357 = 10.4%

Warner: 27/472 = 5.7% (this one surprised me)

Brees: 50/424 = 11.8%

Pennington: 20/364 = 5.5%

Garcia: 18/271 = 6.6%

Eli: 39/371 = 10.5%

Ryan: 42/333 = 12.6% :lmao:

Rodgers: 32/359 = 8.9%

Schaub: 19/227 = 8.4%

Hmm, wonder if this data could be useful as a predictor of fantasy success? Probably not, but it's pretty interesting IMO.

I am a Fins fan, and I don't consider myself obnoxious - but how in the world can a Jets fan even type those words with a straight face? Do you want to go back and edit that? Last time the Jets did anything was with that dirty old lush who molested Suzie Kolber on national TV at QB, right? At least we have a couple of Superbowl appearances in the last quarter century. It's all good Reaper - and I should have stated that the Jets fans here have been OK.But in my normal everyday life - family, friends and people at work - Jets fans and I don't get along when it comes to football.Jets fans hate Dolphin fans.Dolphin fans hate Jets fans. It's always been like that and it always will be liek that. The Dolphins still have plenty of holes to fill and they came out really flat yesterday vs the Rams. I don't expect them to win the division or make the playoffs but I am enjoying the ride so far this year.

Again, excuse Jets fans, you know living in the New York area, to get excited after DOMINATING the last remaining undefeated team in the NFL.If your a Miami fan go move to Miami and not support your team. If I were a Jets fan living out of state, I would certainly respect the home team. But no, I support my home team. What do you want Football fans in NY to talk about, how horrible the Jacksonville vs. Houston game is tonight...no, we talk about our NY teams! All I want to know is if Miami is printing Playoff Tickets yet? And if they are, will anyone care?

I would like to interrupt this rock-throwing contest to say that I'm glad the Phins are enjoying success this year. 3-1 for the rest of the season is a good possibility. Maybe you can get into the playoffs and find your way to Pittsburgh. :goodposting:

The newspapers had them playing the Giants in the SB last week.PLEASE understand that I'm giddy to be a Dolphin fan these days - it's been so long since they've played a meaningful game this late in the season I can barely control myself.IF by the grace of the football Gods, Pennington has the chance to beat the Jets for the division in Week 17 it will only rival AJ Duhe single handily beating Richard Todd and the Jets way back when in the AFC Championship game.
Love to hear from grumpy Jets fans on Monday's - so much better than last week.Did you go to GIANT stadium yesterday to watch your team?
that is sooo funny. Besides, you got it! I walked a whole 1 mile from my house to watch the Jets play. What exactly is your connection to living in NY & being a Miami fan? There is nothing worse than fans for teams not in the area & then getting upset about the HOME town fans. ######ed!!! The absolute worst are Cowgirl fans, so at least your not that bad.I am rooting for the Dolphins & Pennington. Not sure how dolphin fans (from the NY area) can now root for Pennington after bad mouthing him for years, but you go girl.

I'm a Dolphin fan living in NY and always liked Pennington and thought he would be a great fit when the got him. Without the real big play guys they needed a smart conservative gameplan.

I'm definately not looking too far ahead. I started the season saying 8-8 would be a dream. I'm just happy to be watching meaningful games and hope the final one counts.

Hopefully they make the playoffs just for the experience for the players going into next season.

Go Phins!!

I think it would be awesome to see the Jets dump Pennington for Favre only to lose the division to the Pennington-led Dolphins.
 Just last week Gang Green was printing Super Bowl tickets in anticipation of a Giant vs Jets championship game.

This week's jets fans = and :lmao: and :football:
Links please?Or are you just making blanket statements assuming they are true? Because every Jet fan I know, including MOST on this board have remained cautiously optimistic this entire season, including during the recent winning streak. No one around here that I can recall has said a thing about the Superbowl.

Imagine that for the Pats or Fins.....

Glad you felt the need to pollute this thread with being a tool.

Pennington is a very good QB & I think he fits Miami better than he did the Jets. Miami has a better power running game and an aggressive defense & play in better weather for their home games. Pennington will compete in every game as long as the score can be kept to within 1 score either way and he doesn't face to many 3rd and longs. Down by 10 in the 4th Quarter is not his game. If the Miami at Jets game is for the Division title I would certainly be worried. Miami has the type of defense that will cause Favre to throw INTs, but the Jets will be home in December.

I've been to every Dolphin vs Jets game here in NY for the past 25 years. I usually also make it to 1 or 2 games down in Miami each year as well.Do they still cover the GIANT stadium logo with the Jets green tarp every year for Jets "home" games? I'm looking forward to seeing it again on 12/28. I've also said here that I will not root for Pennington until he beats the Jets - I just can't do it after years of calling him noodle arm. Now if he beats the Jets for the division on 12/28 I might go out and by his jersey.

again, this miami team is far from perfect, and now we are starting to see some injuries along our o line. Still, it is nice to be in the thick of things again.

I'm pulling for miami -- except the part about winning the division.

just make sure you guys lose to one of these chump teams and beat the jets.

sincerely,

~ A. Patsfan
