The Mike Singletary Bandwagon (1 Viewer)

I liked him before, but following the speech in which he said he would rather play with ten players on offense and be penalized, than play with eleven with the one who was penalized and didn't want to win... which he then elaborated on by saying he wanted winners, he wanted players who wanted to win...

I dunno, it doesn't sound very impressive, but the way he said and how he said it and the more I'm reading up on his playing career...

Mike Singletary is my new favorite head coach. Hands-down.

Count me in on the 49ers bandwagon from this point forward, too -- I know they won't do much this year, but I really, really, like this guy.

I always sign him as my head coach after the first season on Madden.

But... I don't know if that style will really work with today's players. "Who cares... I'll make my millions in the locker room."

I bet those players would rather play for a coach smart enough not to go for it on fourth-and-4 down 13-3 at the opponent's 29-yard line in the final minute of the first half. The resulting interception and return 75 yards for a TD took away any chance the Niners had for a victory.

he went a little overboard with Vernon today. Yeah, he needs to let him have it a little bit. But he's over there reaming a sensitive guy for too long AND he goes back for seconds and thirds making Vernon get his helmet. I'm not sold that the players feel he's on their side after that

I don't think that Singletary blasting out a prima-donna underacheiver is going to do anything to make the players feel alienated. If anything, it might make them excited that the franchise will no longer put certain 'special' players on a pedastal while there's actual football players out there giving 100%. If I'm a 49er, I'm a little tired of Davis and his claims about being the league's best TE without doing squat to back it up.

Single greatest post game press conference piece I've ever seen. Gave me goose bumps and I couldn't care less about the Niners.

Not to mention the whole message of the post-game rant was all about "TEAM." I would think that would really bring the team together, not alienate them.

 Serves notice to everyone that you'd better go out every Sunday and produce. Teams generally respond to authority when they feel their being led with a sense of purpose. It's worked pretty well for Coughlin. The 9er's as a team had been given a pass for unacceptable play for too long. I applaud Singletary.

Good for Singletary. Vernon Davis has been a $15 Million-guaranteed-signing-bonus BUST who needs a swift kick in the ###. What a joke of a player.

Singletary made a splash with his presser, but you can only do that once before you're fired and having clips taken out to make Coors Light commercials with the faux pressers.

I love Singletary and want him to do well, but what bothered me about it is that it looked like it was all emotion. While it's genuine, it makes him look like a raving lunatic if he's not more composed. He's a head coach now so he needs to get it together in front of the cameras.

Love him as a head coach. Loved him as the general of the 46 defense in 85 as well. He knows how to win, and the 49ers are better with him. He is also the kind of coach who will call Davis into his office after the postgame and talk to him WITH RESPECT about why he did what he did and what he expects from here forward.

Small correction. Davis plays tight end. Watched the game on TV and saw it all unfold. I liked it.

Undecided.

He came off somewhere between an old school disciplinarian who will save the franchise and an out of touch wingnut who's nuttier than a fruitbat.

he should of replaced JTO in the second half. why would you do it with half a minute left in the first half?

If this is an indication of things to come, he'll windup as one of the all time coaching greats. Its not quite yet in the same class as 'playoffs?!?', 'we play to win the game', 'we gave it to them', but its his first time out. I see alot of promise.

I personally believe this team has the talent to win. Not Superbowl talent but competitive talent. I used to think that they just needed a quality QB but maybe they needed a quality coach. Singletary will not accept losing and he will not allow this team to accept it either. If it takes a rant to wake up the team, then they should be wide awake now.

I think he was always a great player gives 100% every game and seems he is a good coach now.

My only negative is looking in his eyes..makes me dizzy...no wonder O-Lines had trouble with him!

The word "team" will never work with todays players.

A true class act and hopefully a great coach at some point. I know that when Lovie was hired, I was hoping that it would be Singletary as a Bears fan. I am a little jealous of the 9ers right now, that is for sure. That post game PC was phenomenal.

Yep..I do agree with this poster..Davis wa suppose to be the second main receiver on the team..he doesn't even try!Take your ### and helmet and go to locker room..when your ready to play football call me on my cell..good job coach!

I unfortunately have faith in the Yorks F'ing this up somehow, but that presser was a beam of hope in a very dismal red and gold cloud of failure.

Yet through the first 7 games he was 29th in terms of targets for TEs. Let's not put all the blame on Vernon here. In all fairness the guy just hasn't had the ball thrown to him. From the little I saw of the game today when Seattle intercepted it and ran it back for a TD, Vernon almost caught the guy. Looked like he was trying on that one to me.

Calling out Davis may very well have been necessary. But doing it in the press is hardly a class act.

I like the emotion and the sentiment. However, I gotta see if he knows what the hell he's doing strategically before I adopt him as a future great one. Sometimes the "rah, rah" stuff is something coaches fall back on when they don't have a clue what they're doing. My gut feeling is that it's the latter, since blowing up like that at the outset screams desperation and gives the appearance of grasping at straws.

It's worked just fine for the Patriots. Granted, Mike Singletary doesn't yet have Bill Belichick's credibility, but Belichick's reputation wasn't nearly what it is today back when he gave Terry Glenn the business. Not quite the same situation, but there is a comparison there.

Personally, I'm going to wait to heap laurels on the guy until his team beats a team they were supposed to beat, instead of getting blown out at home.

Have you ever watched him play? Singletary's been that way his whole career. I doubt he is ranting at the podium because he doesn't know what he is doing. :bag:

Davis has been all mouth and no production. He talks like he is as good as Gates, but never backs it up. Last week I saw him drop an absolute soft ball in the open field. Not a defender anywhere near him. Yet, he still takls like he is some elite talent.

I think Singletary will make an omni-potent example of him.... and Davis deserves it. SF has been under achieving for so long... any approach, preferably a radical one can only improve the situation. I like Mike... especially after wacthing him coach the senior bowl practices. Nolan made a big deal out of wearing a suit on the sideline.... misplaced priorities?

Singletary needs to learn how to deal with the media. Telling Davis to go to the locker was enough, he didn't need to blast him in the post game.

As a side note, pick up Delanie Walker, he had a pretty good game today and may get more playing time now.

agree with this post and many others on here . . .no BS, no politically correct statements, and NO EXCUSES!!!He spoke from his heart!!He may or may not turn into a great coach, but I will be rooting for him . . .

Not sure he'll be a great HC or not, but either way he's got a bright future as a motivational speaker.
He's already a motivational speaker. Been doing it for years.
In addition to his coaching duties for the 49ers, Singletary is a motivational speaker and has authored three books; Singletary One on One, Calling the Shots, and Daddy’s Home at Last.

No #####...say can you tell me who bombed Pearl Harbor?

Davis is a joke, he has been talking trash since training camp his rookie year! He celebrated an 8 yard reception in a preseason game!!!And I've read that he is lax in his playbook study . . . he deserved what he got - you actually think this is the 1st time that they've discussed his behavior??? I'm sure they've been down that road time after time - at some point, Davis has to man up . . . he deserved what he got . . .
