The NEXT great offensive OF will be..... (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
I'm going with Curtis Granderson.

The guy is still relatively young (26 years old) and his power is improving. He already has 4 homers, 11 RBI's, 16 Runs, 2 SB's, and a .296 batting average.

I see him eventually becoming a 25/25, maybe 30/30 player, with a good average, something above .280.

I'll say Ryan Langerhans  J/K, this guy and Mark Redman should not be on a major league roster

Langerhans is great defensively, but I agree so far this season has sucked. Right now he and Matt Diaz who also has sucked offensively are splitting time in LF. Redman has been a joke. Got a 4 run lead in the top of the first only to give up 4 in the bottom of the first. Got two more runs of support in the top of the second, only to give up two more in the bottom of the 2nd. As a braves homer, I would say Francouer will be the next, although he is pretty much there. Plus he has a cannon for an arm, at least once a game a runner stays at second instead of advancing to third. Plus he is actually taking walks this year, and has been super clutch with RISP. 17 of his 24 rbi have come with 2 outs (I think).

I like him. Very smart guy. Parents were educators. Easy guy to root for.Needs to cut down on his strike outs, but that's obvious. Will he run more effectively?

Josh Hamilton is the obvious one that came to my mind.

I also think Luke Scott could be a nice player. His OBP working up to this year was very high for a young player.

No mention of Carlos Quentin? Sure was a hot name in drafts this past March. Supposed to have all the tools.

I wish the Indians would give Sin Choochooooo a full time gig. I think he could be 20/20.

:moneybag:  I am a friend of his who went to high school and college with this him. Played basketball and a Gus Macker Tournement with him as well. He is a very smart guy, parents are two of the nicest people you can meet, and he is very humble. The biggest thing with him to me that is as of note is that he just gets better every single year. His senior year in high school I think he was considered like 3rd best hitter on the team. Went out to UIC and each year got better and better and his junior year ended up wtih the #2 batting average in all of baseball. Same thing for minors...lakeland, then toledo...each year got better, and its continuing in the pros. Detroit got a steal by getting him 81st overall. His hard work and determination could turn him into a legitimate all-star eventually. of course im a little biased...

oh yeah, and a final note..the reason i brought up the whole basketball and gus macker thing is that he is an extraordinary athlete. He could of played basketball in college as well.

I thought it was pretty cool that he gave his ALCS Ring to his dad.

Delmon Young & Felix Pie

Delmon is just 21, Pie just turned 22.

Granderson is already 26, and pretty much what you see is what you're going to get, especially playing in Detroit. Parks too big, and he wiffs too much to be great, but could be good for a while.

Hunter Pence probably will not make an impact until he turns 25. I wish he had a few more years in the majors before he turned 25, because it takes awhile to adjust. Great players are in the bigs before 25.

Luke Scott is already 28.

Chris B Young and Corey Hart are both also interesting prospects. I can see one of both being stars, and I can see one or both being duds.

I don't think you can blame Pence for not being called up. I think you can blame the Astros.

very cool...also still lives with them in the offseason. He has not changed one bit, which speaks volumes about him since many people change instantly with success like that. I cant even gaurantee i wouldnt change if i were him!! haha

Felix Pie

I thought he was just another overly regarded Cubs prospect (just like Shawon Dunston and Corey Patterson), and then I saw him play.

:o

He might not be ready offensively, but his defense alone is going to make him a star pretty quickly. Once he starts getting the at bats and cutting down the Ks, he could be a rare talent. I'm thinking Carl Crawford, only with better D.

Rios is one...Delmon is an obvious answer. I am going to throw Ellsbury into the mix...

color me unconvinced of Pie...he has a ton of power, but is very raw and is lacking in his hitting approach. Guy has great potential, but I don't see it being realized

He's definitely very raw right now. I hate his plate approach, but I think it's correctable.Of course, a lot of people said the same thing about Patterson year after year. If Pie gets some good coaching and keeps his ears open, he could be huge. But yeah, it's a pretty big if right now.

Delmon Young.300/30hr/100 RBI/20 steals is in his future within the next 5 seasons.
I like Dukes better. Young swings at everything.
I disagree. Delmon Young WILL be a stud, and probably this year. While Young has had his problems off the field, Dukes is far worse. I look for him to implode way before he becomes a star. By the way, Dukes is hitting .217 with 2 rbis in 46 ab.

I believe Jeff Baker would hit 25/100/300+ if he was a starter. If Helton is traded, or an injury happens to an OF or CI, jump all over this guy.

I also like Chris B Young long term. His average might not be great this year, but I do expect 20/20 in 2007, and a 30/30 year in his future.

I also like Corey Hart, he's a guy who definitely is a 20/20 candidate.

Brandon Wood if he ever gets called up has immense potential.

Keep an eye out for Evan Longoria if he gets called up.

Other toolsy guys I like that won't make an impact this year, but will in the near future are Andrew McCutchen and Cameron Maybin.

Kurtis Granderson is a darn good player, but needs to stop leading the AL in strikeouts.
