The Night Manager was released on BBC1 in February and received solid reviews by critics and fans. I watched all 6 episodes and enjoyed it as well, wanted to make sure the FFA was aware of the upcoming US premier. The series is based on the book but set in modern times, incorporates the Arab Spring and Syrian conflict into the plot. Laurie and Hiddleston do a great job and the scenery is outstanding (filmed on location in England, Switzerland, Balearic Islands Spain, Morocco, Egypt, and Turkey).

If you want to watch it before April 19th you can find all 6 episodes in the usual places, or stream from BBC iPlayer if you know how to set your IP to a UK location.

Liked the first episode, not much screen time for Laurie (House) until late.

Set to series record.

On the writer

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_le_Carr%C3%A9

"David John Moore Cornwell (born 19 October 1931) (pen name John le Carré /lə ˈkɑːrˌeɪ/) is a British author of espionage novels. During the 1950s and the 1960s, he worked for the Security Service and the Secret Intelligence Service, and began writing novels under a pen name. His third novel The Spy Who Came in from the Cold (1963) became an international best-seller, and remains one of his best-known works. Following the success of this novel, he left MI6 to become a full-time author."

* Bond creator Ian Fleming was also an intelligence agent, and helped write the CIA (or OSS precursor?) charter. Spy Who Came in From The Cold is the complete opposite of Bond, very dreary, realistic I imagine and deglamorizes (treachery, betrayal, etc.) spy craft more than just about any other novel/film adaptation within the genre I can think of.

This.  Wasn't bad, wasn't good - considering it was 65 minutes I thought there would be more but I'll watch the 2nd episode.
Considering there are only six episodes I was hoping for more. Can't say I'll keep watching

Just wrapped this up with SO & friends last night.  It was absolutely outstanding.  Not sure where it's available to stream (we watched the DVD), but if anyone likes espionage and/or Tom H. (or wants to see Hugh Laurie playing against type), this would be well worth a binge.  Only six hours in total.

Heh, anytime he's not doing slapstick comedy, he's playing against type ;)
:)   That's really true!  I guess I meant for anyone who was thinking of him on House, although even there he was quite the antihero at times.  In any case he's an outstanding antagonist in TNM.  Also a tremendous discovery for me was Liz Debicki, who was fantastic as Laurie's character's GF.  I guess I never did see the 2013 Baz Luhrmann Gatsby adaptation, in which she played Jordan, and after checking IMDB I realized I had not seen her in anything else either.  I tried not to be intimidated by the fact that she's easily 6-1 and would require me to get footwear-creative and/or streeeeetch a half-inch or so to be at eye level with her as long as they kept her in flats.  :brush: Really, really pretty gal and a terrific performer.

I also just read they're possibly thinking about a sequel to this.  Would be interesting as they would be departing from the source material, but Le Carre was a producer so they could certainly consult with him.
