The Official Cedric Benson Train (1 Viewer)

I hope I'm alone on it because none of you will be welcome when he gets the starting gig. Spare me with the Thomas Jones I'm a Team Player bullship. He'd wh()re himself out to the highest bidder in a heartbeat. You know it and I know it.

I love Ced's attitude. I love that he gives a #### less about what people think of him. I love that he's all about himself. He'll be all about himself when he's in Hawaii soon as well. Cedric is quickly becoming one of my favorite players in the league.

ALLLLLLL ABOARD.

Hard to get to Hawaii in a back up role

T.O. Quit posting on the boards and get into rehab please!

I'm on the wagon. Agree the whole "everbody loves TJ, the whole team hates Benson," talk is a little silly. I'm sure there is a vocal group that support Jones, but nothing like what is being portrayed by some guys on this board.

Something had to set Jones off in the off season. He had to have been told that his role was going to be decreased & that Benson was going to be given every opportunity to win the job. Nothing else makes any sense. Jones is a solid talent, but Benson's style fits what Chicago wants to do perfectly.

Not sure why this is so widely debated, except for redraft purposes. Dynasty outlook, I took him last year with the 4th pick of rookie draft. All this nonsense with practices and team backstabbing and such doesn't mean a hill of beans to me. The 4 plays he was in on last year, he looked tight. If he can continue to produce, none of this heap of trash talk will mean anything. If you have all your eggs in his basket, then you have other issues than to go on about this crap.

Both Jones (proven) and Cedric could pay huge dividends. Bears have a knack for fantasy RBs. I'm sure in the end, injury will lead to one or the other prevailing.....

Hey I drafted him as a rookie, and was very high on him. Reality set in.
Same here. I think he's more talented than Jones. I think the organization really wanted (the front office probably still wants) him to be the man. But this last episode was the last straw for me. What he did this weekend was unbelievably stupid, stupid enough to cost him a starting job, because I think Jones is probably good enough to hold onto the job and keep the Bears effective enough while doing it not to give it up unless he gets hurt. And I think Benson's moronic behavior this weekend will give Jones the opportunity he needs to reclaim the starting job. I'm starting to get a feel that Cedric is going to need a change of scenery if he's going to make it as a pro. What the heck do they do to these rbs at Texas to mess up their heads? It's a shame because I think Benson would be enjoyable to watch if he got 20 carries a game for the Bears. Cedric

I am still not sure if a starting Benson would prevent the Chicago QBs from getting killed out there. I know Thomas Jones has always been considered a solid pass protector/blocker and a great safety valve catching the ball. I cannot speculate on these elements of Benson's game, since I really haven't seen enough of him. However - While Benson may be improved on his receiving skills, last year's statistics show that Benson caught only 1 pass for 3 yards in 68 touches.

While Benson might be a better pure runner, I like what TJones brings to the offense right now with the inexperience at QB and the lack of a formidable WR corps. I could join the Benson bandwagon at a later date, but Jones should be the starter right now until Benson gets enough repetitions and develops a positive rapport with the entire offense.

Can't you forgive him if Lovie did?

It seemed like Thomas Jones's style fit in Chicago last year just fine.

I bolded the most important part.Benson was hand-picked in the draft because he is exactly the type of between-the-tackles bruiser who is perfect for Ron Turner's offense. In short, he is what Jones isn't. If T.J. put up 1,300 yards in that offense, Benson could make a run at 1,800.

Really.

 (Not that I think my approval matters anyway but...) Not until he gives me a reason to think he's got his head together. He's not saying or doing the right things as far as I can see. Yeah it's great that he apologizes after his screw ups...but he keeps screwing up. Eventually the apologies ring hollow and don't mean much when the questionable behavior continues unabated. He's got some work to do before he can get back to even, let alone respect - and I'd imagine it's the same with his coaches and teammates at this juncture. Forgiving after an apology isn't the same thing as handing out the bulk of the rushing duties - it just means I'm not fining you for being a total jack@55.All this being said, I will draft Benson again if the price is right - because if he does get 20 carries a game he'll be dynamite.

Really.
Benson has proved absolutely nothing in the NFL, how are you going to predict 1,800 yards? That's rediculous!!

I think it's funny how much people blow stuff like this out of the proportion. Was it immature of a young RB not to do what he was supposed to? Yes. Was it immature of whoever reported him to the paper? Yes, although this doesn't get play.

With great players, comes great ego's. There are few exceptions to this rule, and when a great ego is young, they will be selfish and immature...but they will grow, be knocked around like he's being knocked around now, and have the potential to be better from it.

Will Cedric? I don't know, but none of that matters. When the season rolls around, none of this stuff matters...it's all petty. What matters is who produces. If TJ doesn't produce but Cedric does, Cedric will be on the field more. If they both do well, both will likely get playing time, and if Cedric sucks while TJ does well, TJ gets more time.

It's funny most of you don't realize that when it comes to talent and performance vs immaturity and character, in the regular season, talent and performance trump immaturity and character every time.

I'm not jumping on the bandwagon, even though I own him, but I will say that if he stays healthy and gets an opportunity, I think he'll do just fine, regardless of all this preseason nonsense.

Jones does many things well, but he doesn't fit what Chicago really wants to do. From an earlier thread on the subject, I had posted this breakdown fronm KC Joyner, ESPN's number breakdown guy:{{Braden (New Brunswick, NJ): Where does Thomas Jones rank in your overall running back metrics, will Cedric Benson be able to fill his shoes? K.C. Joyner: (4:30 PM ET ) One of the ways I look at running backs is to see how they ranked on different kinds of running plays. For example, Jones ranked in the top 5 in both the dive play and the draw play in yards per attempt. The problem with Jones was that he did poorly on the Bears bread and butter run, which is the isolation play. Jones ranked 29th in that category, with only 2.9 yards per run. I think Benson has the ability to fill his shoes. He spent most of last season behind the curve because of his holdout. We should get a better feel of how good Benson really is this year after a full camp.}}The Bears want to play smash mouth football. Jones played well in their system, Benson would be a monster.

well he's been hurt for most of the camp so where does that leave him for this year?

Too bad Benson's not getting a full camp again this year.

This bandwagon is running on fumes.

And after this weekend when TJ show's why he will be the Bears starter (again) will be stranded in the desert.

Considering the overall lack of true NFL experience, I seriously doubt Lovie will put BOTH Rex and Ced on the field to start the season. Grossman is still looking like this  , and while Ced "may" be a better rb than Jones, he hasn't done squat thus far besides hold out and pizz off his teammates w/ his juvenile behavior.

Griese > Rex *at this point*

TJ >> Benson

This will play itself out sooner than later, regardless of who sees the field as "starters" in week one. CHI is too close to a solid playoff team (other than QB/WR) to screw this up - only to justify spending $$$ on a first rounder that hasn't TAKEN the job from a solid producer.

If this was the 49ers - in total rebuilding phase, sure I can see CB getting the job and seeing what he's got. But not CHI 06 - where 2 stupid losses will cost home field in the playoffs.

Disclaimer: I have BOTH in a 10 team redraft, and don't really care who gets the full time RB gig, as long as it's not 50/50

I have Benson as my #5 RB!!!I'll trade him to you for a Martin Gramatica!!! Although the rest of the guys wouldn't approve of it since a kicker is a whole lot more valuable then Benson.

Sorry, I was stuck on the Ryan Leaf Bandwagon and had trouble getting off.

So they then kicked me onto the Rosey Palm Bandwagon, which turns out to still be an upgrade over Benson.

I think it's safe to say you're now alone. I just jumped off.I'm usually smarter than this. I've now wasted a pick on Benson two years in a row. This guy is simply awful. He has no understanding of running with patience, or setting up his blocks. None.

Run into the back of your linemen.... fall down and go boom.

Run into the back of your linemen.... fall down and go boom.

Hey, it only took me less than a year and a half to realize that the guy just can't play the game. At least now I can move on with my life and stop fooling myself into believing that he'll ever amount to anything. :(

And just to be clear here, I'm not knobbing Jones at this point either. He is a solid, workmanlike back, nothing more. He had a good game tonight, yes. By my count, that puts him on pace for 4 good games this year, assuming of course that he doesn't get hurt as he does every season. The fact that Benson can barely get a meaningful carry playing behind him speaks volumes about how far below par Benson's game is right now.

Congrats to those of you who realized early on that Benson is a steaming pile of crap.

I was wrong. I am humbled. Please forgive me for backing this stiff for the last two years.
