The Official: I'm Glad FFB Season is Over Thread (1 Viewer)

This isn't about the lack of success of my team this year.

Honestly, I'm so glad this season is over. I get my life back. I get my Sunday's back. I'm no longer glued to a TV all day, refreshing web pages, checking scores like a mad man, and wasting so much time throughout the week reading articles, checking rankings, etc. Every year I say the same thing "I'm just gonna play casual this year and set my lineup that's it." But every year is like a broken record and I am consumed with FFB. I can't even help myself. This addiction is up there with drugs, alcohol, etc. Maybe I should go see a head doctor? It's so very sad that I take this hobby so seriosuly, and it's not like it's a crazy amount of money either. I blow more in one night at a casino than playing FFB all year, so it's not even about the money.

Am I the only one here? Maybe I need a season off...

I feel you... It just sucks to end my season like this, every one of my teams fell completely flat.
Not even about winning or losing. Just tired of the FFB grind. I want my life back
Yea, totally. Sunday's are consumed by fantasy and honestly I'm addicted to this a lot. But I don't know what to do when fantasy is over. lol
If you played dynasty you would be scouting college players right now.

Try an all-play and best ball league. You can still draft, trade, waivers but don't need to agonize over who to start and then follow what your lineup is doing vs your opponent since tracking 12 teams with 15+ players isn't really feasible.

Once you realize how much luck is involved it helps to curb the constant research, sweating over lineup decisions, etc. Sometimes not getting that waiver-wire pick you wanted could be the best thing that happened to you. After years of agonizing over decisions, research, etc. and not winning anything, yet losing to people who people who didn't expend half the energy I did, a light bulb finally popped over my head. Luck plays such a huge part that it's not worth investing so much time in it.

I think you are partly in denial about it not being about winning and losing.

My teams fell flat at the end of the season and it just feels like i wasted a lot of time. When i win i don't feel the same way.

Might try this out. Thanks for the feedback!

Maybe you are on to something, but I've felt the same way the last couple seasons. As much as I love FFB, I have dreaded the grind the past two years. It's really about me having no self-control when it comes to this hobby. I am consumed with FFB for ~16+ straight weeks.

Brutally honest.A great way to adjust is to back out of leagues. Get down to a manageable number that is low stress. Next year I will only be in 4 leagues which will chosen by most enjoyable to me.

I hear ya man. I was in two leagues this season, goin down to one dynasty next season. I don't have time to commit to a bunch of leagues. Don't really want to anyway.

Been doing this for 25 years but I finally made the decision to quit it all. I'm only in 2 leagues, had the best team in both. One got beat in the finals and the other won the league. It isn't about losing as it is about making a decision to spend more time on more important things such as family, friends and my job. I am sure I will find something to take up my spare time but I am hoping it will be something more rewarding than this hobby has been.

My initial thoughts are I am going to learn to play guitar. 45 is not too late to start a band is it?

Never too late. :hifive:

Yep, I tried to cut down this year and still ended up in 4 leagues. Would like to cut to 1 or 2 next year. Three of the leagues I have been in over 15 years though. Hate to make a decision there, but at least one of those may need to go.

count me as happy also.

for me, it's the waivers every tuesday/wednesday, checking each email ding to see if someone dropped a valuable player to snag.

it really depends on where you are in life-for me, family, 2 kids, and i coach football, basketball, 9 leagues is too many. Definitely need to drop down some...

The every week Thursday game has really put a damper on Fantasy football for me. Still enjoy it, but it seems like more of a grind now with a game every Thursday. I am dropping 2 more dynasty leagues this season so I will be down to 4 dynasty and 2 redraft. Will see how that goes and reevaluate.

I need one of those leagues. How do I find one? Not big money but money. Always have deep roster and all my time is wasted on who to start. I would have no stress

I think the NFL season is the perfect amount of time. I'm ready for it to be over; but I'll be excited when the NFL draft rolls around for rookie drafts.

As for playing in a large amount of leagues, I think people are overestimating the added time needed for an additional league. Being in one league already requires you to look at the waiver wire, check for injuries, submit your lineup, etc. If you know the injured players and the potential waiver targets already, adding leagues doesn't increase time spent exponentially. A very rough guesstimate would be an hour per week for 1 league, and 15 minutes for each additional league. Currently in 9 (5 redraft, 4 dyno). I've had people tell me I'm nuts; but to me it feels like a good amount. A good amount of rookie drafts to target a variety of rooks, various redrafts with different sets of friends, etc. Plus, I've always got at least a team or two to cheer for as the season wraps up.

Economies of scale. During your research you'll hear about other players as well, so it's not like you have to do 9x the research for 9 FF teams.

However, you do have to run 9 lineups, watch 9 waiver wires, etc. And invariably when you have a large number of teams you'll start running into the conundrum of needing a player to do well for you but not so well that it'll sink another team of yours.

I think 2-3 teams is optimal. Having all your eggs in one basket with just a single team means you can have a long, boring, no fun season if it is struck by bad luck.

I may start a league like that in 2015.

Right there with you Papa G...been playing almost 20, and basically the truly important things in life become more prominent and at the priority they should be at. You don't want your legacy to your kids to be you won x amount of fantasy football trophies...big deal. Worst case scenario is the family talking at your funeral about fantasy football...god, what a waste of a life. Yet, I still commission because I enjoy the concept of a league and running a league. I think I tend to live vicariously more through my leaguemates' teams than I do my own. I make the playoffs almost every year yet I don't sweat lineup decisions like I did at a younger age. It's not life and death anymore....and I'm 48 and want to play guitar with my 16 yr old son so no, 45 is good!

I used to look forward to FF being over win or lose because it meant winter conditioning was ready to begin for baseball...but this year the team I have been coaching for the last 5 years hit high school so I no longer have winter conditioning to keep me occupied until the baseball season begins in March. I might actually have to catch up on house projects I have been letting slide for the last 5 years. High school baseball cannot get here fast enough to watch the boys play at the next level.

I think it's critical to your sanity to only be a part of leagues that are enjoyable outside of potential to win. The leagues that I keep returning to are leagues with guys I have been playing with for years with great banter and competition, low turnover. I would pay to be in these leagues without a prize just for the experience every year. Cut the rest out. It's the difference between having your monthly poker games with buddies versus going to the casino alone.

This. I'll have 3 to manage but also a few best ball, all play with no waivers.

No, that's not true. Take that back!

If you just try hard enough and are smart enough, your predictions of the future are sure to come true next time.

I was deeply involved in fantasy baseball, daily grind. I stopped last year and didn't miss it and actually felt relieved.

I don't feel that way about FF though.

I am in 3 Dynasties and have no intention of quitting.

Still fit family time in and this is one of the best hobbies i have ever had.

MFL has those best ball drafts. I really enjoyed the draft and it was nice to actually win. But I guess you guys are talking about a league that still has week to week matchups?
