The OFFICIAL QB play in the NFL thread (1 Viewer)

I don't think I have ever seen so little talent coming out of college ranks than what has come out the past few years. If this keeps up, the product on the field is really going to suffer. The NFL is just lucky that they have relaxed the rules so much as far as hitting the QB and DBs holding WRs. If they hadn't done that, the product on the field would really blow.

Unfortunately colleges could care less about grooming NFL level QBs.

Right now I count 5 truly Franchise level QB, a handful of solid QBs, a lot of 'just another guys', even more unknowns and at least 3 teams with no NFL QB at all.

Arizona Cardinals - Palmer - can do a lot worse. Remember that 2013 crew of QBs?
Atlanta Falcons - Ryan - Solid NFL QB
Baltimore Ravens - Flacco - living off a SB caliber defense. Loves to throw deep on 3rd and 1.
Buffalo Bills - Orton - could win with a better defense, which doesn't say much because they got a really good D.
Carolina Panthers - Newton - if he runs, they can win, if he tries to be a passing QB, they stink
Chicago Bears - Cutler - goes little when he needs to go big, stuck with him because there are not options on the horizon
Cincinnati Bengals - Dalton - see Cutler
Cleveland Browns - Manziel - jury is out. Can't wait for the entertainment to begin
Dallas Cowboys - Romo - how long can he last with that messed up back
Denver Broncos - Manning - Franchise QB on last leg
Detroit Lions - Stafford - Favre without Favre magic
Green Bay Packers - Rodgers - Franchise QB
Houston Texans - Mallett or Savage - Savage won't be getting a shot this year. Talk about an unknown.
Indianapolis Colts - Luck - Franchise QB
Jacksonville Jaguars - Bortles - jury is out.
Kansas City Chiefs - Smith - Game manager if there ever was one.
Miami Dolphins - Tannehill - Seems to be improving
Minnesota Vikings - Bridgewater - I see potential.
New England Patriots - Brady - Franchise QB near the end.
New Orleans Saints - Brees - Franchise QB with an arm that is quickly becoming a noodle
New York Giants - Manning - Living off Tyree and Manningham and some solid SB winning defenses. If his name wasn't Manning he would have been benched a couple of times.
New York Jets - Smith - Desperately need an NFL QB
Oakland Raiders - Carr - Still think he will be just like David Carr
Philadelphia Eagles - Foles - regressed from last year.
Pittsburgh Steelers - Ben R. - Franchise QB
San Diego Chargers - Rivers - Solid NFL QB

San Francisco 49ers - Kaepernick - Can win with him if D is solid and he takes off and runs. Drop back passer - forget it, he blows
Seattle Seahawks - Wilson - the running QB who always looks downfield before he passes the LOS
St. Louis Rams - Bradford - does he return for another round of IR?
Tampa Bay Buccaneers - McCown - meh at best. Need a QB
Tennessee Titans - Mettenberger - jury is way out
Washington Redskins - 3 stooges at QB it appears.

NFL teams need to focus more on developing young QB's and not rushing them out onto the field. You're right, colleges don't really care about developing their players to fit into the NFL; they develop them to maximize their output on Saturday's. It's the NFL's job to take those products then mold them to the NFL game. Like real life, some translate quickly; others take time, and patience. Start operating with that philosophy and I think there will be a greater chance of finding more young QB's that successfully make the conversion.

The really bad teams don't take the time to do that. The coaching staff is under such pressure to win now that they just throw the guy out there. It will be interesting to see if guys like Nassir, who has sat now for 2 years behind Manning and Savage, who will have sat for a full year behind Fitz, can become viable NFL QBs. Or o they just end up career backups never getting a chance to play.

Of course the other problem is that there could be NFL caliber starters who never get a full chance to reach their potential because they were a late round pick and served up too many INT's in their one chance at starting. Bortles is an INT machine but because he's a 1st rounder, he gets a pass. I thought McGloin looked as good or better than Bortles but he got the bench even though his numbers equaled Drew Brees' after 8 starts. Once again, the coaching staff was fearing for their jobs so they put in garbage like Terrelle Pryor who had no QB skills at all....but he could run with the ball.

I agree. More patience is the solution, but owner's need to become more patient if they want to be successful. If they're not patient then it's a trickle down effect and the whole thing is more likely to fail.
