The one thing you own that maybe ... possibly ... worth real money. (1 Viewer)

So, my parents are artists and collectors. I like antiques too, particularly militaria. One day, searching ebay, think it was "bronze sword" because I was curious what a genuine bronze period sword might cost, listed from highest price to lowest, weed out the junk, top of the list is a bronze Shiva statue. And I recognize it right away, step father has the exact same Shiva statue ... Must be some joke they are asking $300k, searched, can't find another one, can't even find an imitation. Printed it out, pointed it out to my step dad, he was like, "meh ... i don't want to sell it."

Might be really valuable.

Any probate lawyers in the house?

What if you inherit a huge collection of items, most worth less than $1k, but,,like you go on Antiques Roadshow with one thing you inheited, and surprise, it's worth a million dollars ... Do you pay a capital gains tax? I never purchased it in the first place.

Anyway, mostly I am concerened ... i might have to pay a surprise tax if it really is worth a lot of money after I inherit it. Maybe I should take it upon myself now, to free up cash my parents can use to pay off debt.

Funny story. My best friend was visiting recently, he is a social studies teacher in Scottsdale, we have known each other since college. He is not the kind of guy you would say is rich ... just a middle school teacher ... Not at all yer halla balla yall type, normal dude, but his family has money. Yah know, in general white guys that met in the frat in college stay friends ... There is this network of middle aged guys that long for those great times with the keggers and stuff. The live bands, brah ...

I should sell the Shiva idol, and make a documentary about life and times When Imwas younger ... there are so many amazing true stories.

I'm so sorry if I ramble sometimes people. Should not equal me being totally shunned .... But OK,,whatever. Some people will see my content, others will not.

Anyway, he's got a similar problem, his father has money but is a hoarder. Lotta junk, but maybe also some legit stuff, I,showd him a bead. Ancient African trade bead and said, "This bead is thousands of years old." and he said that was impossible, "would be in a museum" he said. "If it was a thousand years old."

"THOUSANDS ... could be 4 thousand years old." and I know, because my Mother is an expert in trade beads, I know what the older stuff is, I grew up around the business.

We have a lot of ancient stuff, but even antique trade beads are on the rise.

It's sad but because of the terrorists, there is just no safe trade route to West Africa anymore. Lot of traditional African tribal craftsmanship will be lost.

Supply and demand ....there is not a lot of "radio active vaseline beads" which are antique, but a demand for "ancient" things from Asia is new.

Hippy ### mfer ...you might think ... You might be suprised. Was it a family named fund that started Obama as a community organizer in Chicago? Yes it was. Do I have access to that family money? No, I do not. Are there more people behind us now?

I know people who know Warren Buffet. But I am poor.

Broke card player, driving some fancy old convertible boat. Most possible poor level I can be given my rich white parents.

Like if I won the lottery, my family would just be like "oh, that's nice for him, now he can donate more to charity. Write it off on his taxes for tipping servants last year, and stuff."

Ok, cousin ... But I wasn't rich, until I discovered the magic Jeanie bottle. Matter of fact, I was poor.

It's easier to give away the family fortune to the poor, than it is to give the family fortune to poor family members that are just on the wrong side of the coin. Long story.

And if sudden fortune fell upon me,,I would be expecred to use it to benefit humanity, and such.

I might spend it on liquor, gambling and women. That doesn't make me a bad peson, though.

Or does it?

true story:

Some of my ancestors were Indium fighters. Famously killed Chief Bigfoot, the Poe brothers.

Scottish mostly, the Poe family, famously killed it's way West. So, the rest of you lilly white crapper busting fatties could populate this country.

That's right. They killed women and children, and between that Austrzlosn idiot who mad a movie about the Scottish fight for indpendence and left out the bridge part, of the battle of Styrling Bridge. Left out, Andrew Muray, who was a real, person, and actually the guy that is given credit for winning that battle, not even a character in Braveheart.

Murray and Poe family, Scottish Indian fighters. I suppose Clint Eastwood did it best in Unforgiven.

William Munny ... possible he really did his homework on my family .... true, bad ### mfers.

Andrew Murray .... perhaps sounds like Munny ... with a Scottish accent.

History lesson:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qzLTY14WI20

William Wallace escaped this battle, was later captured, drawn and quartered.

Andrew Murray, who is not even a chracter in Braveheart, fought and won against the English. Later died of wounds he took it that battle,,liek a man.

That the real story. Not lightingimg bolts outta my ####.

And perhaps, it was easy ... baddest mfers in the world, put England in their place. No brainer.

My ancestors were hired to be marauders,,do ethnic cleansing and I am not proud of it ... but if it is "kiss me, im Irish." It is prolly "go eff yourself, I'm Scottish."

Just how it goes. Bad mfers for a long time, before ws came here. Just in my DNA. Murray, Poe ... The whole thing. I'm infected with it.

The Union history is really clear, was a light artillery unit out of Elgin, Illinois on my Dad's side.

All the tough Scottish people are on my Mom's side. Tough people.

Adam and Andrew Poe killed Bigfoot ....yeah,,that was us. True story.

I guess that makes me like at least half a bad ###.

But we prolly did kill women and children, if we are being honest.

Not proud of it, but ... cmon ... somebody was gonna do it. Who fought the English for the last 5 centuries and won?

Scottish are ... pound for pound, the badest mfers on the planet, in history.

Murray family is like ...The last people on the face of the Earth you would want to mess with.

Natural born killers.

Oh yeah, Edgar Allen Poe, prolly. I have been the family genealogist and it all gets very confusing.I was interested in fzmkly history as a child though, and my name is Adam, remember my Mom telling me about " Adam Poe" the indian fighter as a little kid, before the innerwebs ... and I found stories about an indian fighter named Adam Poe. Was a real guy,,with his brother Andrew.

The family story is edgar allen was kind of an outcast. A freak, perhaps a drug addict, but he did tell a great story.

Funny story, know loud fam, lot of attorneys and teachers ... on my fathers side, name Emerson. Distant ancestor married Silence Emerson.

Told some cousin about my discovery.

"Silence?", they asked.

"That's right.", I said.

"Last time that name was ever used in this family."

So true.

Still looking for hardcore proof:

Silence Emerson was related to Ralph Waldo.

Proof the Poe brothers that were Indian fighters were related to Edgar Allen.

But killers, drug addicts and writers .... that sounds about right.

Also known marauders from Canada during the revolution, fighting for the Queen. Roger's Rangers. Again, stone cold killers. Seemed to be the popular thing back then, kill people.

I have to commend you. Your stories may not be interesting or entertaining to anyone, but you sure have a passion for telling them.

Thank you.

My grandfather on my Dad's side was a LT Col in the Army. I remember him as very right wing, which was contrary to the rest of the family ofprogressives, includimg his son, my father.

Grandpa looked, but mostly talked A LOT like Robert Duvall.

"Someday this war is gonna end."

This is strange.
