The Peyton and Brady rules... (1 Viewer)

I'm not taking anything away from Peyton Manning or Tom Brady talent wise but let's say they weren't as protected as they are, would they be as effective? Would their team win as many games without the calls? These two are top 5 at their position and arguably top 5 of all-time and I'm not saying that they're only good because they get semi-protected but it certainly helps, it eliminates bad games, playing a hard-nosed defense and getting battered, injuries, etc. If anybody is a fan of the NBA you see "phantom" fouls on superstars all of the time like Kobe Bryant, Dwayne Wade, LeBron James... these guys all get the same treatment. The league sort of needs these guys so they have to do this but realistically... are these guys stats padded because of it? I believe so... to a certain extent.

Well you don't get yardage or score touchdowns via penalties. One has to actually execute consistently to become a top QB. The rules implemented and their execution by officials also didn't really occur until both QBs were already HoF bound (although Brady has benefitted most from the changed DB/WR ability to interact). Also, the NBAs officiating is entirely crooked so those aren't really phantom calls while NFL calls are more often than not made due to seeing effects and not causes. A guy struggles to get up? Must have been an illegal hit. You cannot rule out each refs individual idiosyncrasies.

No, you don't get yardage or touchdowns via penalties but you do get breaks. What I mean by catch more breaks, win more games, etc. is basically it's 3rd and 13 and Brady throws and incomplete pass but he gets grazed by a defender, he gets the 1st down. I do think that the NFL is tailor made for them..

If you are comparing their accomplishments to other HoF then he game has changed. But look at Marino in the 80s and 90s or even Montana. People want to see scoring and the league wants us planted in front of our TVs for the next BIG comeback. Think back to the 70s when an O linemen couldn't extend there arms to pass block and holding was 15 yards. Imagine today LT against todays DEs with those rules.

If you are comparing them to others in the league now, think how bad the QB play would be if there wasn't such rules. As a season ticket holder do I want to go to tonights game and see Brian Hoyer and Mark Brunell or Brad Smith. No, thanks.
