St. Louis radio said this morning that the Rams are apparently interested in trading for Lee Evans. We'll be interesting to see if this has any legs...
No chance since Moss went for a 3rd. Evans is one of the most talented receivers on one of the worst teams. If he had a legitimate qb and a legitimate backside receiver to get rid of bracket coverage he would be a legitimate WR1. One of the most consistent handed/deep threat receivers in the NFLPlease let it somehow be for their 2nd.
Oh I know. But I can dream, can't I?No chance since Moss went for a 3rd. Evans is one of the most talented receivers on one of the worst teams. I'm not holding my breath since that will likely be around the 35th to 40th selection. Please let it somehow be for their 2nd.
Shhh! Don't tell the Rams that!I'm not holding my breath since that will likely be around the 35th to 40th selection. Please let it somehow be for their 2nd.
I would tend to agree.Granted, his QBs haven't helped for a number of years now, but at some point the QB situation can't be totally used as an excuse.Other WRs have done just fine with mediocre-to-week QBs, and if Evans were that good, he'd find a way to get open and get the ball. He didn't do much even when he had TO as a threat on the other side of the field. The guy may have great speed and hands, but seems to not be able to consistently beat a team's top corner. As a long-time owner and supporter of Evans, I am skeptical. It certainly couldn't hurt his chances, but I have been less and less in the "Evans is ultra-talented and just needs better opportunities" camp over the past couple of years.I just think that a truly elite talent will produce, even on a crappy team. He may not flourish, but he doesn't totally disappear for multiple game stretches like Evans does. I'm starting to think he just isn't as talented as I thought he was.
10/2/2008: Signed a four-year, $37.25 million contract extension through 2012. The deal includes $18.25 million guaranteed and a first-year salary of $11,730,770. Another $3 million is available through incentives. 2010: $5.4 million (+ $3 million roster bonus), 2011-2012: $3.025 million (+ $1 million roster bonuses), 2013: Free AgentLooks like most of the damage has already been done.Am I remembering this incorrectly, or did Lee Evans sign a pretty hefty contract a year or so ago? Would the Rams be willing to take on salary like that (if it is indeed true)?
As pessimistic as I would be on Evans, he's still 3 times the player Mark Clayton was, and look at the damage he did.I would tend to agree.Granted, his QBs haven't helped for a number of years now, but at some point the QB situation can't be totally used as an excuse.Other WRs have done just fine with mediocre-to-week QBs, and if Evans were that good, he'd find a way to get open and get the ball. :IBTL:Wish they would just go get VJax!
Maybe since Evans is 4 yrs younger than Moss it's hard to compare trade values here. I agree though that it would be unlikely for STL to give up a 2nd for Evans, but I don't think it has anything to do with Moss.No chance since Moss went for a 3rd. I second that prayer--and I am not a praying man! Please, those of us who have held onto him for years in dynasty deserve a reward at long last!!!!Please let this happen
The Rams value their picks greatly. They won't be giving a 2nd or a 3rd for Evans. I guarantee that. I think a 4th is pushing it. I can see a 5th.
31 year old Deion Branch was worth a fourth. 34 year old Randy Moss was worth a third. A fifth? No offense, but that's crazy talk. A fourth at a minimum, and I would say he is worth a third--he is 29 years old and has top WR skills. A third for him would be a steal tbh.The Rams value their picks greatly. Evans' Qbs haven't been mediocre to weak--they have been bottom of the barrel bad. The worst. And, while big possession WRs can get theirs even if the QB is bad, speed/deep threats need a guy who can throw long and hit them in stride. So, you really are comparing apples and oranges. Plus, he has had one good year and one great year despite the really bad situation.I would tend to agree.Granted, his QBs haven't helped for a number of years now, but at some point the QB situation can't be totally used as an excuse.Other WRs have done just fine with mediocre-to-week QBs, and if Evans were that good, he'd find a way to get open and get the ball. You obviously have not seen the Carolina Panthers play this year!!az_prof said:Evans' Qbs haven't been mediocre to weak--they have been bottom of the barrel bad. The worst. Probably has to do with the lack of a cap.CaptainHook said:whats with all the trades this year. does it have something to do with the off year next year?
Except the Rams need is immediate.JAA said:sounds like this is a cover for trading for Vincent JacksonShow you are interested in someone else to drop asking price of who you really want.No chance Bills trade Evans me thinks
Why? Are they worried their window to win a superbowl is closing? Do they think they're a playoff team this season? It doesn't matter whether the Rams go 6-10 this year with decent receivers of 5-11/4-12 with terrible receivers. They're in the same boat, either way. In fact, they're probably better served by going 4-12 and landing another top pick next year.Except the Rams need is immediate.JAA said:sounds like this is a cover for trading for Vincent JacksonShow you are interested in someone else to drop asking price of who you really want.No chance Bills trade Evans me thinks
In absolute terms, it probably is better long term for them to suck really bad and get a better pick. But the NFL doesn't work quite like that because HC's and GMs want to keep their jobs and owners and fans can be impatient. Head Coaches, in particular, have pretty short ropes, and telling the owner, "we sucked but that's ok because we netted a good pick for the future" won't cut it.Why? I haven't. But you have to admit that JP Losman, Edwards, and Fitzpatrick are among the worst trio of QBs a WR has had to endure. They aren't average or even weak: they have to be in the bottom 3 QBs or so. Jake Delhomme is an "average to weak" QB and I would much rather have him in his Carolina hey day than any of those bums Evans has had.You obviously have not seen the Carolina Panthers play this year!!az_prof said:Evans' Qbs haven't been mediocre to weak--they have been bottom of the barrel bad. What about Steve Smith Carolina? I'd say QB play has hurt him the last couple of years.Holy Schneikes said:As a long-time owner and supporter of Evans, I am skeptical. No doubt, but Jake Delhomme was much better than any of the Buffalo QBs.What about Steve Smith Carolina? Maybe, but Fitzpatrick has looked better than anything I have seen from Delhomme over the last 2 years. In a weak division with a promising rookie QB, a stud RB, an improved offensive line and a defense that, until this past Sunday, had looked improved they very well could be.Do they think they're a playoff team this season?
FWIW, I dont think they will trade for Evans... But I think you answered your own question. Out of those 6 you listed, Amendola is a slot receiver, 1 is on IR, 2 are (unproven) rookies, and one is made of balsa wood. No reason why they wouldn't want to bring in a veteran presence. If they liked those 6 receivers so much, they wouldn't have brought in Mark Clayton in the first place.I may have missed it here, but I haven't seen anyone ask why the Rams would do this. They currently have 6 young WR's on their squad and I think 5 are pretty talented. One rookie I just don't know anything about. Robinson - Age 25, oft injuredAmendola - 25Gilyard - 24, RookieGibson - 23Avery - 26, IRCurry - 23, RookieWhat would be the reason for acquiring Evans? What does Evans bring to the table that these guys don't? Evans hasn't been all that productive on a consistent basis during his career and I don't see how going to St. Louis will improve his chances of becoming consistent.
