25.xx  The Thunder Rolls, Garth Brooks (1991)

No, this is not a song about me trying to get out of a lawn chair...

While i wait for At the Drive-in's mgmt to get their head out their asses and release Quarantined as a timely single so i can use its atmospheric excellence in my mix, i'll raise the stormy AND country music thresholds in my jukebox with this mangy dog. a forgotten diner's juke is gonna have a LOT of country in it, but i'm not gonna waste 60s-80s slots on filling it. it's gonna be 50s and 90s, which is gonna mean some of the seeds of corporate country. and the thunder rolls (and i jiggle with jello)....

25.ee - The Vow - Cory Branan (2017)

Branan is a singer/songwriter out of Memphis that I discovered when following one of those "fans also like" rabbit holes on Spotify.

The song sounds more like Springsteen than the Boss himself did in 2017.  It has the gruff vocals, the high snare backbeat and the background synth chords like something off Tunnel of Love.   The song is about Branan's father; their relationship bears some similarities to that of Springsteen and his dad as so movingly described in his Broadway show.  Even the title "The Vow" is a variation on "The Promise".

This song is really committed to its sound effects

Excellent question. In other news, I couldn't find this thread on the front page because it got bumped. I was panicked that it had gotten axed for some reason. That's a relief.
I just started laundry. I always seem to start it late at night.

Tomorrow I think.  Rolls are after rounds 15, 21, 27 & 33.  The true free play is after round #40.

Hopefully these numbers don't give anybody the heebie jeebies.
Explain for those of us who don't pay attention to rules, plz?

On the front page you wrote "After rounds 15, 20, 25 and 30, we'll roll dice between the most popular years (i.e. years with the most selected songs) to choose the Free Play year." I'm fine with 27 & 33 too.

We changed after we went to two picks per day.  It's easier to do the roll at night.

Missed it among the thousands of other picks :bag:
I couldn't get "Crazy" out of my head and thought I might use it for my 2006 song. Whoops. The reason it was stuck in my head is because Pip's Invitation took it in the fifth or sixth round. These things get unwieldy. Glad I busted out a spreadsheet for this one.

Betty Davis put out three albums of salacious funk in the '70s long before the world was ready for it. I like the first one best because she is backed by members of Santana and Sly and the Family Stone. This was her most successful single, but it only reached #66 on the R&B chart. The Pointer Sisters appear on the B-side.

Round 26: Betty Davis -- If I'm in Luck I Might Get Picked Up

Year: 1973

Album: Betty Davis

B-Side: Steppin' in Her I. Miller Shoes

Betty was married to Miles Davis for 1 year in the '60s. She introduced him to Jimi Hendrix and Sly Stone, which led to Miles creating jazz/rock fusion. Miles divorced her after accusing her of having an affair with Hendrix, which she denied.

I was going back-and-forth between a few songs this morning til I realized my last two picks were a Nirvana cover and a song covered by Nirvana. So let's go for the hat trick.

Round 26 Tori Amos - Smells Like Teen Spirit (1992)

And that makes four tracks either recorded by or were covers of Nirvana in my jukebox, a band I don't really have much of in my library beyond unplugged. Certainly wasn't by design; these have just been unique and well done renditions of their original.
