The Returned

I watched the premiere last night (Sundance channel). I haven't been this interested in a series after the pilot since Lost. (Twin Peaks was the previous title holder.)

Very eerie, great setup. Not sure if they're technically zombies (yet), but the premise is intriguing.

Highly recommend. It is in French with subtitles, so I can't promise that we'll be able to refer to characters by the names of characters in previous series (e.g., "Cutty", "Landry"), but there seems to be so much going on here we'll likely forget about that in no time at all.

I watched it last night. I knew it was a French show, but I thought this was going to be an American version. Not bad so far.

Did I miss how Simon figured out he was dead and went to the graveyard or is that something to be explored in later shows?

Thoughts on if the chick who got stabbed in the tunnel comes back to life next week? You have to figure that scene didn't happen for no reason whatsoever. Maybe a serial killer has come back to life now too?

Oh and "Victor" is ####### creepy. I'm assuming he's autistic or something.

Really enjoyed it, although it was tough to figure out a few things. Would have liked a little more on the old guy who committed suicide jumping off the dam. I assumed that was his wife who came back after what must have been a lot of years. Interesting that she was tied up in the burning house but no body was found. Looking forward to finding out the deal with Victor also.

Good call on the serial killer.

I'm not sure how you make the leap from creepy to autistic... Anyway, he is creepy. I think given the fact he was standing in the road when the bus went off the cliff, there's more to him than the "typical" revenant.

You can get all the episodes in hd off TPB.

I really enjoyed the show but I'd wait to watch it since new episodes won't air until Nov. And the finale just leaves you with a bunch of questions.

3 episodes in on this, freaking Victor.

At least my francais is improving.
Yeah, I'm a few episodes behind as well but I have them on the DVR. Victor is rapidly climbing up the creepy list. He might overtake the kid in Flatliners by the time this show is over.

I saw ads too and it looked interesting. Tried looking for season 1 OnDemand and DISH doesn't have it. Don't see it on Netflix either. WOuld like to check it out.

Season 2 pretty much as great as Season 1.

Beautifully shot, every episode- helps that the location (I assume French Alps, not Pyranees) is jaw-dropping. And there's always a few flat-out stunning shots. Overall direction, art-direction, cinematography, sound... pretty much at film-level- amazing.

Hard to speak to the acting and writing, given I'm doing it all in subtitles, but so far the acting hasn't been distracting- and has seemed pretty good. Overall story arc and individual story arcs keep me more than interested and guessing.

I love the score, even though they should invest in a couple more background tunes- seems like they've got 3 or 4 that get played every episode, situation dependent.

lol at "freaking victor" a few posts up... holy ####.

I kinda hate that they're trying to market this as "if you love the walking dead, you should see this!". so far, this has avoided the comical writing/reality pitfalls that TWD falls into every week (and I'm a fan of the TWD). granted, this only into it's second season- but every episode carries a lot of worthwhile TV without the junk... and it's amazing how well they keep the undercurrent of creepiness going.

Big, big fan- this and Mr Robot are far and away the two best things on TV this year IMO (non premium). just wish it didn't take almost 3 years to get the second season.

eta: - not cancelled. on Sundance saturday nights. season 2 is almost over- only a couple more episodes left.

Woah, second season took 3 years? Who is writing this show, George RR Martin?

Another consistent, fantastic episode.

looking forward to seeing how they wrap this up this season- hopefully some answers (loved the cryptic comment about the returned in the caves, which none of the police seem terribly concerned about) and hopefully the cliffhanger doesn't hang us too far out to dry.

I like the remoteness they maintain in the show- but given how much bizarre stuff is happening with the lake, flooding, plus mass-murder of police... real world would be swarming that place with news and interest. not a big thing, and it works better for the construct of the show- just occurred to me while watching the last episode.

eta:

is victor the lynchpin and just doesn't realize it? or will we see something/body else arrive, which victor alludes to? and either way- it's tough to figure out if he's evil or just a misunderstood kid. thoughts?

Ummm... was that the series finale? Kinda felt like the plug got pulled there and they just decided to wrap almost everything up in a tidy bow... but still a crapton of questions.
