The Saints and their fans better cheer for Seattle tomorrow, because:

No domed team has ever traveled to a cold weather outdoor stadium for a Conference Championship Game and advanced to the Super Bowl.

BEARS!

Domed teams that have traveled to a cold weather outdoor stadium for a Conference Championship Game and did not advance to the Super Bowl:

2004: Atlanta @ Philadelphia

2003: Indianapolis @ New England

2000: Minnesota @ New York

1995: Indianapolis @ Pittsburgh

1991: Detroit @ Washington (not sure if this is considered cold enough)

1987: Minnesota @ Washington (see above)

1979: Houston @ Pittsburgh

1978: Houston @ Pittsburgh

Number of times Rex Grossman has won a playoff game:

Did we figure out which one of you is right? (edit: looks like it was Grid)

And the reason no dome team has gone to an outdoor stadium and won a conference championship game is because none of those teams were the Saints.

Rivers vs. Brees, McCallister/Bush vs. LT - it'll be a great Superbowl.

Gross Rexman and Thomas Jones don't scare me near as much as Hasslebeck and Alexander.

I'll worry about it after the Bears win a home playoff game for the first time in over a decade.

Nice victory Saints fans.... enjoy it - you've made the Final 4.

I was born and raised in Chicago, so I have a soft spot for the Bears...so I'll be rooting hard for them tomorrow. I wouldn't have envisioned a Bears/Saints championship game of any kind in my lifetime.

Unfortunately I think whoever wins next week will ultimately be nothing more than a punching bag for the AFC team.

However... the Bears against New England could be quite different than the regular season matchup on a NEUTRAL site.

Saints vs. Chargers would end up like Bucs vs. Raiders - Brees would get Payton ready for that offense and the Saints would kill them.

I hope the Pats win 46-10 then :banned:

I don't think the Saints can beat the Seahawks. Seattle will bring a better passing game to NO than the Eagles did and they'll bring Shaun Alexander.

Grid you're resting you hopes on a pretty small sample size.

How many games has Rex looked good in over the last month?

How many teams have advanced to the Superbowl having a QB with one buttcheek already on the bench?

How many teams have advanced to the SB having looked as bad to end the season on both sides of the ball as the Bears did?

Da Bears get owned this year like they did last year, at home, with a terrible QB at the helm.

Try to stay focused on the task at hand. Bear's are looking to next week aready too, that will be part of the reason they get beat today.

Translation: "I'm trying really hard to not think about Rex Grossman."

As a Bears fan, I'm very concerned about SEA. If CHI was playing like they were early in the year I'd feel better, but they're not the same team on offense (Grossman's confidence) or defense (injuries). I still think CHI should win, but it seems likely to be a good game and could go either way really, imho.

If CHI does advance, the meeting with NO would be great. Two very different teams; each having a great season in very different manners in 2006.

I don't like the Saints chances against the Chargers at all in the Super Bowl. Having a teams former QB or having their former coach is not the same.I don't know what to think of the Bears in the playoffs. Grossman can lose games all by himself. I don't think the Saints automaticly lose to them.

Rex Grossman had ONE bad game in the past four games:114.4 QB rating at the Rams with 2 TDs and no INTs104.3 QB rating against Tampa's 'great defense' with 2TDs and no INTs80.4 QB rating against Detroit with 1 TD and no INTsand he spit the bit against the PackersSo the answer to your question would be 75% of the games he's looked good in.And the last time he played Seattle WITH HEALTHY DBs... he had a 105 QB rating with 2 TDs and no INTs.Offensive Coordinator Ron Turner has to minimize the amount of times Rex Grossman is put into a position to LOSE the game. And Rex has to manage his 'suckiness'. lol....POUND THE BALL WITH BENSON and the Bears will win.

I realize it's not the same, of course, but I honestly believe that Brees is the smartest (and most coach-like) QB in the league. I think it's reasonably similar enough to have Brees be completely familiar with that team to warrant a comparison.

No domed team has EVER won an OUTDOOR Conference Championship Game.

Period!

The home team ALWAYS wins:

2004: Atlanta @ Philadelphia

2003: Indianapolis @ New England

2000: Minnesota @ New York Giants

1995: Indianapolis @ Pittsburgh

1991: Detroit @ Washington

1987: Minnesota @ Washington

1979: Houston @ Pittsburgh

1978: Houston @ Pittsburgh

Just a friendly reminder from your friendly message board Bears fan.

As I said in another thread:People keep mentioning this statistic, and it really cracks me up, because I don't think it has very much to do with weather.Think about the statistic. If a dome team is playing outside, that means two things:1. The dome team is playing a road game. Regardless of weather conditions, this means the dome team faces all the disadvantages of playing away from home that always apply.2. The dome team is playing against a higher-seeded team. There's probably a reason the home team won more games during the regular season.I think those two things are a much bigger factor than the weather itself.

Where is "@ Chicago" on that list?

How many games has Rex looked good in over the last month?
Week 14:Grossman: 13 of 23 for 200 yards and 2 TD's, 0 Int's.Brees: 26 of 38 for 384 and 5 TD's, 0 Int's.Advantage: Brees by a good bit.Week 15:Grossman: 29 of 44 for 339, 2 TD's, 0 Int's.Brees: 21 of 38 for 207, 0 TD's, 1 Int's.Advantage: Grossman by a good bit.Week 16:Grossman: 20 of 36 for 197, 1 TD, 0 Int'sBrees: 13 of 32 for 132, 1 TD, 0 Int's.Advantage: Grossman.Week 17:Grossman: 2 of 12 for 33, 0 TD's, 3 Int's.Brees: 4 of 5 for 46, 0 TD's, 0 Int's.Advantage: BreesSo, I guess the answer is: As many as Brees.

On a SOUR note, the last two times the Chicago Cubs had their "Cub Convention" for their minions of idiot fans to infiltrate Chicago - the Chicago Bears lost that same weekend - against Philly and Carolina.

More 'curses' thanks to the Cubs.

You think Brees will get benched like the last time he played at Soldier Field?

Windy City + Brees = Not a good thing
Interesting that you bring that up. One could easily argue that getting yanked in that November 2003 game in Chicago was the turning point of his career. His TD-INT ratio from that game and prior was 25-28. Once he came back (sat 5 games after the Chicago benching), it is 83-37.

You know, it is highly likely that Brees will have mediocre statistical passing game. I can agree with that. The thing is, though, is that the Saints don't necessarily go as Brees' passing numbers go. The Saints aren't a run-and-shoot team that needs to chalk up 300 yards in the air. As long as Brees' game management and ball protection remains solid, the Saints have a puncher's chance. It'll mostly be strength-against-strength when the Saints have the ball ... N.O.'s rushing game versus the Bears rushing defense. I'm betting both sides have the confidence to take their chances in that matchup.

Something tells me Brees hasn't forgotten that game either. I like backing a guy with something to prove.

Weather for Chicago:

A SNOW ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FROM 3AM TO 6PM CST SUNDAY. SNOW SHOULD BE RATHER STEADY BETWEEN SUNRISE AND MIDDAY THEN MORE INTERMITTENT DURING THE AFTERNOON ON SUNDAY. 2 TO 4 INCH ACCUMULATIONS WITH A FEW AREAS UP TO 5 INCHES MAY BE EXPECTED.

Awesome!!!! Looks like the Deuce and Reggie show. Without Harris and Brown I like our chances. Grossman will be forced to do what he does best.................throw INTs.

Will somebody from New Orleans please let me know why your beloved Saints only ran the ball 12 times today. It made no sense to me whatsoever.R. Bush 4 19 4.8 0D. McAllister 6 18 3.0 0M. Karney 1 11 11.0 0D. Brees 1 8 8.0 0

Several reasons. Most of all, the Saints were playing behind for most of the game(actually, they never had the lead).

On the first drive, the passing game was working. But then as the 1st half progressed, the Bears jumped out to that 16-0 lead. They were attempting to run on the Bears, but I didn't think they were having much success. The Saints best running occurred this year when they crossed teams up. Pass a lot at first and use Reggie Bush a lot in motion, which left the middle open to the run. But the Bears are no ordinary team. They have excellent DL and LBs. The Saints could not win at the point of attack.

Now, I do question the play call of Brees passing out of his endzone when the game was 16-14. It defintely backfired on the Saints. However, with the great job that Payton did this year with the playcalling(and the entire team), I will not question his tactics.
