The semi-official Green Bay Packers 2011 Thread (1 Viewer)

Congrats to Driver on the yardage record...and as always, he responds with 100% class.

September 18, 2011To my family, the Packers organization, current and former teammates, friends and all of Packers Nation,THANK YOU for the opportunity to play for the greatest franchise, and best fans, in all of sports. The Green Bay Packers team goals are absolutely the most important focus for all of us moving forward. With the incredible blessing of the birth of my third child (Charity) last week and becoming the All Time Packers Leading Receiver in Yardage today by surpassing Pro Football Hall of Fame’s James Lofton, I also wanted to briefly reflect for a day on the wonderful experiences that I have shared with all of you.I still remember the Packers drafting me as the 213th overall player in the last round of the 1999 NFL Draft. The Packers had the 212th and 213th picks back to back that year, and they would not even take me 212th! I clearly did not know Wisconsin very well back then, because I got off the plane that April in just shorts and a short sleeve shirt – and yes, I froze!Thankfully, I have learned a lot since then about a number of topics:1) How to be a loving father and husband2) To appreciate every single day what it is like to play for a Packers organization that is committed to excellence3) That Packers fans will always support you, no matter how cold it gets!4) That on field accomplishments matter, but that charity and giving back to the community is the most important accomplishment of all5) That I will never be done learning, interacting and enjoying the special relationship with Packers staff, teammates, fans and community supporters throughout the worldIn closing, I want to encourage all of you to hug your loved ones this week and please continue to support the Packers and your community! THANK YOU!Sincerely,Donald Driver

Jordy Nelson just signed a contract extension

Green Bay Packers general manager Ted Thompson apparently has locked up another of his potential free agents, this time signing wide receiver Jordy Nelson to a three-year, $13.35 million extension, according to ESPN.

Nelson, who is in the final year of his four-year contract, would have been eligible for unrestricted free agency after this season. The deal presumably locks him up through 2014.

And so the Packers continue to insure their video game offense is more wicked than Madden

So they have signed Sitton and Nelson.

2/3 scheduled for UFA next year.

Finley next I would assume...and probably the harder of the deals to get done.

Great start to it by management though.

First quarter in the books, 4-0, three favorable matchups before the bye, setting things up nicely to be fighting for homefield throughout in December instead of a wildcard spot. :banned:  :football:

i used to like aaron rogers but i am getting sick of that stupid a@@ championship belt pose he does. i mean act like youve been there before you #####. If i was on defense or i was a coach i would tell player to cheap shot his punk a@@ and make him think twice about pulling that garbage. so freakin juvenile.

McCarthy seems to be getting absolutely fearless and I love it. Perhaps it will cost us a regular season loss here and there. But he's running games like a guy who knows he has better players, better schemes, and better preparation, and I think the players know it and feel it.
I think that is the difference in good and great coaches. You have to be willing to trust your team, your coaching and just be willing to do it. Sometimes you lose, but sometimes your the super bowl champs. I can live with that

I think he did it because he got hit there a yard into the endzone.BTW...he now has the belt...its something his teammates love...and opponents try mocking (worst was my man Jimmy Graham while getting beat...though Abraham's in the playoffs was bad too). But he does not actually do it quite so much anymore he says...saves it only for really big plays. Like that run he had.

He does is so often because he scores constantly. It's not so much the belt, as the inability of anyone to stop him from doing it that bugs you.

Well that reply made zero sense, saying he does it so often beacause he scores constantly. That doesnt take away the fact of him being a complete tool.

I'm kind of on the fence with the decision. Denver was expected to get blown out anyway, so this just seemed like an unnecesary kick to the junk. If GB were playing against a tough opponent on the road (like the Pats last year), or even losing the game, I could maybe see it. But there's sort of an understanding between (most) coaches that you don't pull trick stuff unless you're clearly outclassed and desperate for a win. I have to think it was done so future teams will have to consider the possibility, so maybe it will benefit the return game in some subtle way?

Come on man, how can you hate "The Belt"? I'm not even a Packers fan and I think it's great.

You might consider finding a different sport to watch for the next few years. :football:

I would like to personally thank Aaron Rodgers for giving me a win this week. He almost outscored my opponent's entire team. Keep up the good work.

The score was 7-3 in the 1st quarter at the time. How can that be considered an unnecessary kick to the junk? Maybe they should have just brought in the second string at the time.

Actually, the score was 14-3. Woodson had just intercepted an Orton pass and returned it for a TD. Then the Pack did an onside kick.

The guys in the booth presented it as more of a "the Packers caught the Broncos turning their backs early so they took advantage" sort of thing. Just something you do if the other team is giving it to you.

Favre on Rodgers:

"I’m going to be honest, I was not surprised. The biggest surprise to me would be that he didn't do it sooner.

"It's funny how people can get over time, my last year in Green Bay prior to the first game, I made the remark that this was probably the most talented team that I’ve ever played on. And of course everyone looked up and was like 'this guy's off his rocker.' We were very, very young; take me out of the mix and we were by far the youngest team in the league. But I could see the talent pool across the board was outstanding. Now our season kind of ended up being a reflection of that. We came close, and I think we took a lot of people by surprise, but guys emerged rather quickly. Aaron had a chance ... even though the last couple years it’s seemed like he’s almost a rookie, he’s been around awhile.

"And I’d like to think that he watched, he learned, and then when he got a chance to play, he brought in his ability which is obviously very good or they wouldn’t have drafted him in the first round. He's got tremendous talent, he's very bright and he got a chance to watch and see successful teams do it right. And so he just kind of fell into a good situation. On top of that, he’s a good player.

"I don’t think there’s any pressure on him now, the talent around him is even better than when I was there. So I’m really kind of surprised it took him so long. In the early part of last year, it hadn’t quite clicked yet and I didn’t know it would. I just kind of figured when they hit their stride, they’re going to be hard to beat. And that’s what happened."
Link (Kevin Seifert)This is chock-full of backhanded compliments, right? Every time I think he's done everything he possibly can to sully the memories, he goes and outdoes himself. Ugh.

Meh, not really. He's just giving an honest answer.

Wrong. The last thing you bolded is the only thing that's remotely debatable as a backhanded compliment.

No what I'm saying is that if he wasn't the best player in the NFL, he wouldn't have the opportunity to do it so often. THen it wouldn't be on sportscenter all week every week and probably wouldn't annoy you as much.

I love the fact the person who wrote that jem of a quote is upset with someone being "so freakin juvenile".

Loved that it looked like he threw a little Beast mode last night coming off the field before setting up the last FG...little shout out to the Brewers.

Neat piece on Rodgers last night on E:60. Nothing truly new that Packers fans don't know, but they did interview Rodgers and his parents, and there was a lot of high school and community college footage. Obviously discussed the Favre saga quite a bit as well.

Just read at Packers.com than Clifton will be out "a number of weeks" with his hammy injury and Bulaga will evaluated soon to see if he is ready to start practicing again....will be a good test for our "O" line depth these next few weeks....

Shields now out with concussion symptoms.

Maybe now he will learn to go down once he intercepts one in the endzone.

7-0 going into the bye.

Neal not sure if he will be ready right after the bye.

Hopefully Shields will be back.

Alex Green out for the year with the knee injury after his leg got hit by Cobb on the return.

Jennings with the bruised hand, hopefully will be fine since he played and played well after it happened.

Per the GB paper, Shields is supposed to be ready to return after the bye. Where did you read that Jennings' hand is bruised? I hadn't seen reports back....thought he was getting an x-ray still

Shields was cleared today.Read the thing about he and Jennings on TyDunne's twitter as he was tweeting during McCarthy's presser.

Thx sho. Read the same thing in GB paper late tonight. Good news!!

I'm curious, if there's one team you Packers fans would rather NOT see in the playoffs/superbowl, who would it be? I'm guessing most will say Pats, but I personally think they matchup poorly against the Packers.

Honestly right now the Saints are the team that really concerns me most as a Packer fan. They could've easily won that opener. I think with that matchup whichever QB is the hotter of the two wins that game. As far as the AFC is concerned I like the Pack against any of those teams. Even the Pats who the Packers played down to the wire last year without Rodgers. Though due to the Brady factor they'd be my biggest concern in the AFC but well behind the Saints.

Agreed...Saints have the firepower to keep up with our offense and Williams can throw together some defense and blitz packages to try and disrupt. Would be a shootout and fun to watch, but they are definitely the NFC team that worries me.Pats, I don't think they could stop our offense, and I think we could limit theirs enough...though, their 2 TE looks would frighten me...Woodson can't cover both of them.

I'm not worried about the Saints if we can get them to Lambeau in January. They're built for indoors. As far as Superbowl matchups, the Pats are always a formidable opponent, but they don't really scare me.

ESPN Milwaukee

Speaking three years and one day after signing that deal – a six-year, $65 million contract that he signed after making just seven NFL starts – Rodgers said Tuesday on his weekly radio show on ESPNMilwaukee and ESPNMadison that he’s not thinking about when the team might tear up the remaining three years of his deal and sign him to a new extension.

“It’s not something I think about,” said Rodgers, who is represented by David Dunn, who handles many of the top quarterbacks’ contracts. “We were so blessed to be able to have that contract done in 2008. We knew at the time that was more money than I ever could have imagined signing for, and it was a no brainer for me. But we knew if I performed the way I felt I was capable of performing, that by league standards that by the time I got into my third or fourth or fifth season, that I’d be underpaid by league standards.

“But I don’t look at it that way. I look at it as I’m fortunate to make the kind of money I make and be in the situation I’m in and be with the Packers’ organization. I want to retire as a Packer. They know that, the fans know that, my teammates know that, and this is where I want to be. I’m not worried about (a new contract). We’re still a few years away from me completing this deal, and whenever it comes time to make a new deal, I’m looking forward to maybe signing my last deal, playing it out, and retiring.”
Lucky us.

Bump. Rodgers family and friends should be at the stadium-they don't live that close but I would expect many would be there.

I think the Giants back in extreme cold again would be interesting.
