The Seneca Wallace Thread (1 Viewer)

What are our thoughts on Wallace as the Starter for a few weeks? Holmgren may run a bit more, but the WCO is a passing offense and Wallace has been the #2 for a bit, so what is the consensus here?

He's no Damon Huard, but he is much more athletic than a guy like huard, and has better weapons than a guy like Vince Young.

I'm a biased fan since I went to ISU when he was the QB there and I think he's talented enough to start in the NFL, especially with the experience he's gained working his way up the depth chart and learning from Hasselbeck.

That said, I think he's facing some defenses that are better than people think in the next 3 games - @KC, Oak and StL - and you should really have better options at QB. If Hasselbeck is out longer then he does have some nice matchups @SF and vs. GB.

Here are my previous comments:

* Freakish athlete. Very fast and elusive. Flashed a bit of it on a run late in the game up the middle. Dude is super fast. No starter in the NFL compares but Vick. No, probably doesn't run as well as Vick. When he was at Iowa State it was his legs that garnered Heisman attention. They considered having him return punts, but because he's the second best QB on the team they fought off the urge to pull the trigger.

* He has a stronger arm than Hasselbeck. Potential to throw missles all over the field. Quesion is his accuracy. His first interception today was a poorly thrown ball behind the receiver that was batted up in the air.

* He's been trained to keep his eyes downfield. First instinct now is to pass, not take off. He had a chance to bolt up the middle of the field once today, but stepped forward and was sacked from behind because he still wanted to throw the ball.
I'm excited to see him play. He'll have at least one chance to shine (Oakland on MNF) after this week's expected disaster in K.C. Can't imagine it will go well in week 8. The Cheifs are a different team at home. San Diego got a full taste of that last week.Oct 29 @Kansas City

Nov 6 Oakland MNF

Nov 12 St. Louis

Nov 19 @San Francisco

Nov 27 Green Bay

Time will tell with Hasselbeck's knee. Seattle should play well at home against St. Louis. That game could very well determine the NFC West. Seattle showed their defense can handle Bulger very well in the second half of the game at St. Louis. Was shocked to see how many hits they put on him with only a three man rush. He was very flustered standing in the pocket with no one to throw to. They dropped eight men into coverage and it just threw him for a total loop.

The San Francisco and Green Bay games look very nice, but Hasselbeck may be back. Again, time will tell there.

I profiled Wallace in the Dynasty Watch this week, and we also talked about him on the Staff Roundtable.

I think he's in for a big game.
Big game at Arrowhead?Over Kansas City’s past seven home contests, the Chiefs have compiled a 6-1 record. During that seven-game span, KC has allowed just 185.9 passing ypg in those contests and has limited opposing passers to a 61.0 rating, giving up just six TDs and forcing 12 INTs over that seven-game span. For comparison’s sake Baltimore currently leads the NFL by allowing just a 59.8 rating by opposing passers in 2006. Kansas City hasn’t allowed an opposing passer to post a 100.0 rating or better in its last eight games at Arrowhead.

The Chiefs starting secondary of CBs Ty Law (48 INTs), S Sammy Knight (38 INTs), CB Patrick Surtain (33 INTs) and S Greg Wesley (28 INTs) own a combined 147 career interceptions, the highest tally of any starting secondary unit in the NFL.

No visiting WR has caught a TD pass in Arrowhead since Randy Moss in week 9 of 2005.

There are a ton of stats about KC vs NFC teams, SEA on the road vs AFC teams, KC vs SEA at home, KC @ home vs first year starting QB's, etc...but those don't really get to the heart of the matter...that Seneca Wallace is not going to have a big game.

Please have a decent game. Had Trent green & Hasselbeck as my QB's. Stuck with Seneca to carry me until one of the two return.

Saying :bye: to the :moneybag: now. :bag:

ServiceableI do think it downgrades the WR staff just a bit and upgrades the RB staff a bit.
I would think it would be a downgrade to the running game, at least initially. Why would any defense allow Seattle to run until Wallace beats someone with his arm?

This week I expect around 150 yards passing, 1-2 INT and a TD. I also could see 40-50 yards rushing and a TD as well. WOuld ont rule out a fumble as well.

Is that worth starting? Probably not, but would work as a fill. I am going to pick him up in my dynasty league just in case.

This guy is close to vick in speed, and has a cannon for an arm. This is his make or break opportunity. If he can look good over the next 4 weeks, he has just secured his spot as a QB in this league. If not, he will become a better than average WR for someone.

He was a Pro-Bowler for me in Madden. Who knows what will happen in real life.

Seneca Wallace's coming out party will be next Monday night against the Raiders. He will have 1 game under his belt, played in a hostile environment and it will impact his second game @ home on a national spotlight. I have McNabb on a bye and Mr. Wallace is getting the start for my undefeated and point total leading team! :goodposting:

200-225 yards, 2 TDs, (but 2 picks), 40-50 yards rushing.

If you have a better fantasy starter, go for it. If you're hurting, he is a candidate.

I could see this. I HOPE to see this, but it's very possible. I think he'll run less than expectd and throw better than expected. He's been in this offense for a long time now. Not so much game action, but they've kept him for a good reason. He's quite capable as a passer. It will come down to decision making.

I just picked up the KCD for this week instead of playing ATL. against Cincy. So I hope he's not THAT good...at least not yet.

still gotta start Jackson I assume, right? I will but I'm still nervous
If you didn't see the game last week, Wallace looked to Jackson on almost every pass play. He will get his catches even against a tough KC @ home defense.

Bump.

I thought Seneca looked pretty damn good in the first half. His speed really surprised me and the TD pass to Branch was very well thrown. Anyone have a read on his prospects against StL?

Wallace is a terrific athlete and always has head in the game. I think his short stature will keep him from ever being a stalwart starting QB. Still, he's now proven himself as a good backup QB, after Seattle was looking into moving him to a slash type role. I actually like his fantasy prospects better as a WR than a QB. The one thing he's got going for him is that there's usually less than 32 healthy, starting quality QBs in the league.

He's definitely exceeded expectations and deserves a ton of credit for staying true to his dream of being an NFL QB despite many calling for him to switch positions or go to the CFL when he was drafted.

His height will always be an issue. He can't make some of the fundamental throws in Seattle's offense off the three stop drop. Both times he tried to throw the quick slant last week it was knocked down at the line of scrimmage. Other that that, I think he's a very nice combination of arm strength, quickness, and leadership.

I've seen him listed as an unrestricted free agent after the season. Has he shown enough to get an opportunity to start somewhere next season? If you're somebody like Buffalo, would you bring him in to challenge Losman?

Damon Huard. Same question. He's an unrestricted free agent after the season. He's been very impressive. What are the chances he gets a starting job next season?

Thanks for that.

As ESPN's Chris Mortenson noted today, Hawks QB Seneca Wallace quietly signed an extension through the 2007 season. This one slipped through the cracks big-time, I'm ashamed to say. It looks like his base salaries are $700,000 this season and $800,000 next season. Mortenson said the deal is worth about $1.2 million total. Signed before the season.
