Maybe it is just because of a faulty, foggy memory, but I like to refer to the hype mediocre players receive in the pre-season as the Shawn Jefferson Effect. The way I remember, Jefferson would always blow up in the pre-season. Then, at least one or two owners would draft him much higher than expected, only to get his 40 700 2 performances season after season.
I tried to find Jefferson's pre-season stats but could not find them. It will be interesting to see who gets over-hyped this pre-season. Maybe Kyle Boller, Ahmad Bradshaw, David Clowney or Clifton Smith? I tend to use the pre-season predominantly as a tool to analyze rookies and how quickly they can adapt to the NFL.
Does anyone else remember this about Shawn Jefferson, or is it a figment of my imagination?
