The single worst TV market in the US this Sunday (1 Viewer)

In the late window this Sunday there's a rare CBS/Fox doubleheader, with both networks featuring marquee 4:25 games: Lions-Bills and Eagles-Steelers. However, whenever we have these big national games there are inevitably a few local markets forced to show a different game. I wondered if any market would be unlucky enough to miss both matchups and, per 506 Sports, there is exactly one. The poor folks in Yuma, AZ, will be forced to watch the home-state Cardinals play the Pats on CBS. And then, I guess because SW Arizona is close to LA, they will also get Chargers-Bucs on Fox.

On the bright side, I bet sports bars in Yuma will do a booming business Sunday afternoon.

(Also your periodic reminder that the rules around NFL games and local markets are complete garbage, built around the outdated assumption that fans care the most about teams that are geographically close to them. This is the first season I've had Sunday Ticket and I'm so glad to be free of the whims of broadcast deals)

I can remember "blackout games" where you had to travel 75 miles away from your stadium in order to watch the game. Very common in the 90s.

A couple of buddies and I drove from CLE to Toledo, Ohio to watch a Browns game in 1994.

The rule that always drove me crazy was the one that said they had to show all local games in their entirety. So you're watching an exciting 1:00 game where a team is driving down for a potential game-winning score, and oops! We have to switch to the first quarter of Jets-Jags

Yeah the owners make the rules. And the owners are idiots. They are almost entirely still in the mindset that their best ROI is on butts in seats, concession sales, and ticket packages. And not broadcast rights, merch sales, branding, etc.

IMO, baseball is even worse. Crazy that in some markets you not only have to pay for a specific cable/tv provider, but have to also purchase an additional sports tier as well just to watch your local team.

Just remember, it’s not illegal to watch a game streamed online, just illegal to be the one broadcasting the stream. I would gladly pay $100 a year to watch all the Bills games streamed live, but my only 2 choices are to either pay $400-500 for Sunday Ticket or $0 to use pirated online streams that are often shaky.

Whats with the random pocket for the Fox late window in Oregon? Random group of Charger fans up there?

I was drawing a complete blank.

Those nutters.

Yuma is a hell hole. I'm sorry if you reside there.
C'mon man....

My wife’s cousin was stationed there for a few years and we visited a few times, it is not pleasant imo. But what really tipped it over the edge for us was when she had a minor spill and had to go the ER late one night. They had to give her a few stitches, no big deal. But we get back to SD and a few days later her arm is on fire and red/swollen. Went to Kaiser here and they said there is still foreign objects in the wound. Had to reopen her cut, reclean, and restitch. A nurse here in SD said there are countless complaints coming out of Yuma in the healthcare world like this.

I have no idea if it's actually true, but Wyoming should get a cut out for Josh Allen Bills games.

Being from the midwest and a fan of the NFC North....Portland sucks unless you go to bars or have the ticket.

C'mon man....
Lmao Devil Dog you were DEFINITELY based there weren't you

I've been there and Fort Huachuca - if you like deserts, hate plants, don't like people and also don't like ideal temperatures - its a great place!
Absolutely was man....and yes it is a hell hole but enjoyed the hell out of Yuma TBH....the days of ripping thru the desert on the crotch rocket....half way to San Diego, half way to ASU and the Phoenix area....even shooting down to Mexico and gambling on the games or the horses on a Sunday with $1 Corona's...life was good.

I mean, it's no Barstow or Victorville if we're discussing hell holes...

Barstow is that place we all stop for gas and food on the way to Vegas. Victorville same thing but going to Mammoth.

I will say the thing Yuma does have going for it is the River. Plus if you like off-roading it’s also good for that but only a few months out of the year.

I've got some Yuma connections and played a bunch of softball there (the military base teams were great competition) and I can see people liking it. Heck, I know a few people who have second homes there and speak well of it.

I dated a girl that lived on the China Lake military base (her dad was the high ranking officer) for a very brief but intense few months. We spent several weekends meeting in either Barstow or Victorville. I played played a couple of softball tournaments in Barstow and, possibly, one in Victorville (though I could be thinking of 29 Palms).

I've never been randomly and without any good reason whatsoever challenged to fights by strangers in any other place combined than I was in Barstow or Victorville. Just bizarre. And, of course, both places are just smaller desert cities (so nothing really else to do) with California prices.

So, yeah, to me they make Yuma look like San Diego.

Haha funny thing is what got me talking about this is the base in Yuma. Luckily for me I was based at Miramar, literally in San Diego (not like all the grunts at Pendleton), airwinger, etc. San Diego is probably my favorite city in the country. I'm not sure what Yuma would do to make it look like that my guess is those brown clay/brown houses you see in the hills in SD and a whole bunch of watering lawns. No ocean though and all that nice weather.

And as a young guy, the scene for the ladies etc, stuff to do. But it ain't cheap and Yuma is for these mentioned reasons.

Anyway, sucks to have those games in the market this week lol

China Lake is out there man. Lots of interest top secret research going on...allegedly.

I digress. Back to football and funny enough the game in Yuma being broadcast I have interest in with MHJ and Henry playing for my team this week. Although I am contemplating swithing Henry for Freiermuth with GP out this week..

While it wasn't for military purposes (though I did get to see some pretty cool military stuff the average civilian wouldn't ordinarily get to), definitely a lot of research went on with the admiral's daughter that was "out there"... allegedly. :lmao:

If you stream legally, use a VPN to watch the game you want.

Easily the worst market Sunday is South Bend. Usually it’s the Bears/Colts primary, but the Bears are on MNF. Fox is showing Wash/NO, the only market outside of those area and Atlanta showing it. CBS is showing KC/Cle early which is fine. The outrage here is the late game. The market spills into Michigan, and everyone wants to see the Lions now. We don’t get Buffalo/Detroit, we get Indy/Denver instead.

I think you mean Los Angeles. This morning is Cowboys/Panthers and Chiefs/Browns. At least both the Cowboys and Panthers both stink, so the game of incomplete passes and punts might be entertaining.
