The sky is falling, oh how people love to hate America's Team (1 Viewer)

So Dallas struggles a bit and deals with MANY key injuries and missing players, currently sits at 5-3, and the sky is falling as all the America's team haters pile on.

Meanwhile, the Colts sit at 3-4, and people barely notice. Haha.

Being America's team puts you in the spotlight for sure.

:violin:If you want to hold yourself out as "America's Team" and be the NFL's celebrity team, then yeah, you're going to get negative attention along with positive attention. So please don't cry, Brittany, when we won't "leave you alone". :goodposting:

There is no such thing as bad press. As long as you're talking about the 'Boys, we got where we want you.

Tampa out played Dallas last weekend, but didn't do enough to secure the victory. The Dallas D did however surprise me quite a bit. The D line was much better than I anticipated, and it was hard to get the run going. Pretty much every call went in favor of Dallas, but that's expected when you play Americas team. Pretty disappointing for Tampa to lose the game after driving the field several times to only settle for a few FG's. Garcia looked like crap as well, and couldn't find the open WR on several occasions.

A thread like this perfectly reflects one big reason why people hate the Cowboys.
:goodposting: Many people predicted the Colt's collapse. We could see potential weaknesses, and discussed them in detail 8 weeks ago. The Cowboys collapse is a LOT differant, because it was unforseen. While you can say it was injuries....many of us see a team in disarray, a soft team that may win a lot of games, but doesn't have the heart to go deep. Teams like tha are, and always have been, an enigma tht is FUN to talk about.

If you're fine rooting for the Tanya Harding of the NFL, then I'm happy for you.

Dallas Cowboy fans are the same people as the Dallas Cowboy haters.

Depending on the week they are one or the other.

No other team in Pro Sports has worse fair-weather fans. The number of Cowboy Fans must sway 30-40% each week/season.

The last time the Cowboys won a playoff game, Bill Clinton was still serving his first term as president.
That shows the staying power of America's team. You probably forgot that we are tied for most Superbowl wins in league history, we're also about to have the best stadium in league history, and you can't even watch ESPN/NFL Network/or game broadcasts-pre-game shows without running into all the Dallas greats.. Carry on.

Teams that have won at least one playoff game since the last one Dallas won:

Arizona

Atlanta

Baltimore

Carolina

Chicago

Denver

Green Bay

Indianapolis

Jacksonville

Miami

Minnesota

New England

New Orleans

NY Giants

NY Jets

Oakland

Philadelphia

Pittsburgh

San Diego

San Francisco

Seattle

St. Louis

Tampa Bay

Tennessee

Washington

That is 25 of the 32 teams.

The other six (not counting Dallas) are:

Buffalo

Cincinnati (one of the two most hapless franchises in the NFL)

Cleveland (didn't even have a team for three years in the late 90s)

Detroit (one of the two most hapless franchises in the NFL)

Houston (have only been around since 2002)

Kansas City

Great marketing. Bad football. Carry on.

That's awesome....Personally I would rather trade in some pre-game show commentary by Smith and Irving for some post season success in the past dozen years, but whatever floats your boat.

Best stadium? Are they moving into Lambeau Field?

So which is it? Are the Cowboys the team everyone loves to hate, or are they America's team? They can't be both. If the majority of people hate the 'boys, they can't be America's team. If they are America's Team, that means the majority of fans cheer for them. If thats the case, you shouldn't be complaining.

Yeah, in the words of Emmitt Smith, the Cowboys are about to get "debacled". Smith and Irvin are some of the worst broadcasters I have ever seen.

People don't love to hate the Steelers and just because they lost to the Giants because their deep snapper got hurt the sky is not falling.

the cowboys get a lot of attention because, like paris hilton and their fans, they are attention whores.

I didn't read this thread because there is no value here but since you don't have I clue I will help. Nobody was picking Indy to go to the SB but the media and fans were all over Dallas as a SB walk in. If Dallas had been projected as a contender no one would be talking. Dallas was suppose to be 8-0 right now when in reaity they are 6-6 over their last 12 games and 3rd in their division HTHIt is the LOVERS that blew this one not the HATERS.

This is as productive of counting SuperBowl trophies. Fun for a sec, but not relevant in any meaningful way. They are 5-3 right now.

Cowboys fan, but realist here! Last year they overachieved and won 13 games, collapsed in Dec. again and played a tough game against the G-Men, but lost when everyone expected them to win. Giants surprised the GB Packers and the Pats, so it wasn't a collossal collapse. They lost to a good team on that day not playing their best when they needed to. That was last year!

They are a good team that is finding itself this year. They haven't experienced this type of preseason hype in awhile(expected to automatically cruise into the SB). They're playing with a lot of injuries to key people. This is what makes a good team great, playing through those injuries and finding ways to win(ugly is OK). They will be a much better team for having gone through this than coasting to the playoffs again.

They needed to toughen up and players needed to step up to leadership roles on that team before they're ever going to get far in the playoffs. They are in one of the toughest division in football and face these teams twice a year. They will have difficulty winning games they should and will pulloff the occassional win like Tampa that they're not supposed to win. It's a long season that's half over and they're 5-3. Many other teams would love to be 5-3.

I for one think this is good for the Cowboys and will help them down the road this year. I believe they can get healthy and make the playoffs. I believe they will win a playoff game probably on the road this year. Let's give it more time before we say they are done for the year. There's still a lot of football to be played in 2008.

He's talked about it in the past tense, as if it's already happened. I'm not so sure about that, but I'm open to hearing specific examples as to how I'm wrong.

to the OP: you realize all the people that despise the Cowboys are just waiting for a thread like this to spew forth their hatred, right?

It's a process and they're going through it now. They are not out of the woods by any stretch, but rallying last week as a team was a big step. Sometimes it just takes one game or one series to turn things around. Not saying last week was IT and they'll be undefeated, just a first step in that direction.

- There were several reports of players stepping up privately in the locker room and then on the field. The defense in particular.

-The offensive line did pretty darn good against a tough defense as well.

-They kept the mental mistakes down to minimize penalties

-Coaching was more aggressive on both sides

Even if they lose to the GMen in NJ, they will play it very close. They will come ready to play.

However, I'm concerned about our secondary matching up against the Giants.

It's real funny to sit back and watch all the Steeler, Packer and Cowboy fans rip into each other because they never seem to realize that they're the same people with the same B.S. attitudes.

I don't see that at all but of course I am biased.

Gotta give it up to Tex Schram, dude was a genius he was the first to realize the power of the fair weather fan. They are great in number and are willing to pay cash.

Who are the Dallas Cowboys ?America's team is the New England Patriots.

Not a chance. I used to be a contract programmer that traveled all over this country, and I can tell you there were more Steeler and Browns bars in far away places than NE Patriots bars (none that I saw). I used to go looking for a place to watch the games on Sunday when I lived in these cities, and would come across Steeler and Browns bars constantly. I'm sure there has been some Patriots bandwagon jumpers in the last few years because of their success, but "America's Team" is reserved for team success and popularity for a much longer time than that.

Umm...huh?Its really funny to watch Vikings fan snipe because their trophy case is still empty...way to try laying into 3 of the most successful football teams out there.

 Same group of characters in this type of post. Don't you guys ever get tired of this BS. While it holds true that teams like SD Indy and other favs going into the season do not get all the press like the boys when they struggle who cares, nobody cares.. Have fun arguing this nonsense.

Nationally - people stopped caring about the Colts once Peyton won his Super Bowl - and that national media obsession over Peyton being ringless was over.

Well we have one person who gets it.There is no "America's Team"! It is a marketing ploy and it looks like most of you have bought in.

When you can dig yourself out, maybe I'll stop shoveling. In the meantime, there are none of us who missed the fact that you couldn't stand the heat you were getting from your fellow Cowboys fans in the Washington @ Detroit weather thread, and simply decided to delete it . . . after of course you humorlessly changed the title.

History will show that the Colts have played in the most significant NFL games. The 58 Championship put the NFL in American living rooms. Super Bowl III was very significant in that it showed that the AFL could compete with the NFL, thus ensuring the merger, even though plans for the merger were already in place at the time of Super Bowl III. Then you have Super Bowl 41, where not only did the first African American win the Super Bowl as a coach, but there were two African American coaches in that Super Bowl.

The '58 championship was before the Cowboys even existed, so as far as Cowboys fans are concerned that never happened.

...but as far as history significance, it's more important than any game the Cowboys have ever been involved in. The Ice Bowl is about the only history significant game the Cowboys have ever played in. Yes, their Super Bowl appearances and/or wins are not history significant, but how many teams really get that opportunity? The Colts just happen to be involved in 3 of them.
